Being an introvert while cameras and lights are pointed at you 24/7 must be one of the hardest things ever. Lionel seems like the type to be modest when given compliments.
He doesn't seem, he IS the most modest footballer ever. Dude doesn't even wanna take credit when people call him the best and gives other players the credit. He's super humble. He's the Keanu Reeves of football. lol
PDD-NOS(atypical autism) is an offical diagnosis. I have it. I am a lot Messi in a lot of ways. Autism hyper focus is so powerful. It can make you the world's best footballer.
as a socially awkward person, he definetly seems like that. sometimes things will happen and for socially awkward people youll react one way and then realise how weird it is and in the moment of trying to cover that it just looks more awkward, and you end up doing weird things without wanting to.
It's just mildly infuriating that an introvert who's good at what he does is immediately branded with some tag of a mental deviation. Messi is great, just simply great. That's it. Nothing autistic about him. He is a classic case of someone who's absolutely invested in his occupation and is socially a bit awkward (eventhough that's debatable, cause I personally don't think so).
@@DC-zi6se He's not awkward. He's just a very calm guy. He is also arguably a genius when it comes to football. But he does apparently have border line iq.
People who can speak Spanish can understand him more than us through his interviews n all. But recently he sat down with Zidane and he was just shy and smiling with awe. Nothing odd or concerning was noticeable...
@@treshtalk88For younger people it is, in Messi's case it isn't. English is taught in all schools in the world since it is the Lingua Franca, pretty much everyone who is educated can speak English to a degree. Older generations didn't have such a forced English education so a lot of them still can't speak it but pretty much anyone in the younger generation should be able to speak it
It’s a weird aspect of modern society to have so many so confident that they can diagnose an individual from afar without ever interacting with said subject…
@@markof1303 just to clarify, I’m not saying it’s an insult I’m saying they have no evidence to make a claim but what is presented online. They could be right for all I know but it’s nothing public.
@@vanguardna9986 yeah his dr literally claimed the journalist was wrong and Messi was never diagnosed with Asperger’s etc so either you’re comprehension is off or you didn’t watch the video. For your sake I hope it’s the latter.
@@markof1303who said it was an insult? I think you have a disgusting view of others. Messi is brilliant, we always look forward to watching him play. If he does have Asperger's it would make him even more amazing.
One thing is certain is that Lionel Messi is an extraordinary player who has left an enduring legacy in the history of football. For this reason, he deserves our respect. We appreciate everything he has done. 🙏♥
If true. What an amazing example of the heights people can reach. He has beautiful family, total professional, football genius, football Goat, philanthropy, the respect of billions of people on earth. He’s very inspiring.
Doesn't change the fact that he has won 8 Ballon d'Ors, 4 UEFA Champions Leagues, 10 La Liga titles, 7 Copa del Rey titles, 3 Club world cups, 3 Supercups, 3 Spain supercups, 2 Ligue 1 titles, 1 Leagues cup minor league soccer, 1 World cup, 1 Copa america, 1 Finalissima, 1 U-20 world cup, 2 FIFA the best award, 6 european golden boot, 8 pichichi awards, 9 La Liga mvp, 6 ucl top scorer, 2 golden bals, 2 player of the years, and scored 91 goals in 1 calendar year. The goat
Messi isn't socially awkward. He has a language barrier and is just more introverted and focused on football. That's all it is. His level of intelligence in finding passes, identifying gaps that don't exist and telepathic understanding of high IQ plays in tight spaces, is beyond most others. He also continuously evolved his game. From not taking free kicks he's now one of the best in history. He knows how to remain injury free. He handles his businesses well. Infact other less mortals look autistic when he dribbles past them.
@@sammy_gthegoat He's not that socially awkward. He runs multiple businesses. Has been in media spotlight for over two decades now. I think he is too careful with his image on media.
@@sammy_gthegoatwhen you have a language barrier and literally everyone wherever he goes wants to talk with him it would make it more awkward for him.
@@Godplayzdicebro stop meat riding the guy, yes we get he is a great player and has been on the spotlight for a while but theres nothing you can do about it he's clearly an introvert and socially awkward which is an ok thing to be there's no problem. And you as a messi fan you shouldn't even have to ignore the fact that he's who he is and not try to make him look like a person he's not
Your making a massive deal out of rumors that he’s autistic why does it matter if he is or not I’m autistic and people don’t say shit about it leave the poor man alone
My son has Asperger’s and I do think Mr Messi also has it, but it doesn’t matter it’s irrelevant, look what this man is still achieving, and as much as a lot of us hate it some folks have to put a “label” on things to help them process and understand, we’re all different let’s just respect that ❤❤
As someone with ASD I feel like he's probably on the spectrum, but a lot of the "proof" is clearly made by people who don't know much about ASD. Also the thing about motor skills isnt true, its a spectrum. Some people have reduced motor skills but I always took to new sports very quickly and could have gone pro so its not a blanket thing. Also love seeing the non autistic people saying that they "guarantee" he's not. Like none of us are doctors we all just guessin 😭
For real, I’m on the spectrum and I’ve never had motor issues. If anything I’m a great dancer and have good body control, seems like people don’t understand what spectrum means
he's surely autistic, idk why people claiming he's not in the comments like its something bad (they dont want him to be called like that bc they think its an insult when its not) autitic people are tremendous great and have so many abilities that non-autistic people dont have, i've followed messi since he was young, and by his playstyle to his social skills, there's a significant amount of evidence that what we are seing is in fact the autistic spectrum, the way he sees football may be different to what others see, that explains so much, im saying this because i know 2 people who are on the spectrum and the abilities they have for particular stuff and the lack in others are impressive of course you can't tell just by looking at them (its almost unnoticiable, but the psychologist detected it), and its the same thing i see in messi when he plays or when he does something, people claiming he's just introvert are wrong (well maybe he's also introvert) idk, but as an introvert myself i dont act like that like yeah bro im pretty shy and sometimes i act weird but its not messi's case. I remember an old interview with his first coach (NAME OF THE INTERVIEW: Salvador Aparicio primer entrenador de Messi || #AnécdotasDel10) and he mentioned that messi had 0 knowledge about soccer (that's what his mom said) and his grandmother (messi's grandma rip) told messi's mom to let him play with the team, the mom accepted and the coach made him play, messi didnt touch the ball and he was just watching his teamates play, and after a long time that he took the ball and dribbled past anyone and score a crazy goal (goat), remember that he never been trained or played football before that day and he was also the youngest one in the field, the coach described it as something ''SUPERNATURAL'', that alone tells you everything.
True he was autistic but kept in check. Messi doesn't seem to be normal child but quite abnormal but very talented, he had to take HGH says he had inferior physicality too.
Regardless of whether Messi is autistic or not, here‘s a little about the condition itself: autism is a neurological disorder that causes your brain to develop in a different way. There are many different symptoms that characterize autism and help you detect it. Here are some I found that could potentially be a sign of Messi‘s autism: 1. Being very sensitive, such as to bright light or the touch of skin. This can quickly lead to overstimulation. 2. Engaging in repetitive behavior, also called stimming, which is soothing and provides comfort in stressful situations. 3. Communication difficulties. Autistic people usually don’t have a problem with empathy, oftentimes they even experience too much of it. It’s the inability to express what they are feeling that causes misunderstandings. In the clip where Messi is laughing at/with a crying person, he probably doesn’t know how to express his facial expressions because they (potentially) don’t come naturally to him. 4. Seeing the small in the big. Autistic people typically focus on the smaller details rather than the broader picture (see how this relates with being quickly overstimulated). They can hyper-fixate on things they are very passionate about (called “special interests”). I believe that Messi portrays many of the symptoms discussed and I, as an autistic woman, can relate to many of these “awkward” interactions shown in this video. Although I don’t think we should diagnose anybody with any condition purely from media content and while not being professionals, it makes me sad how many people are vehemently arguing against it. There’s nothing wrong with being autistic. In fact, some of the most impactful people that stomped on this planet were autistic. I think we should finally recognize the 3% of our population who are autistic and out of whom, the majority has above average IQ. It’s concerning how the autistic community doesn’t have any role models in the media (shows like Rain Man and The Good Doctor, albeit entertaining, arguably haven’t helped the autistic community at all). But when autistic people emerge, like Eminem or in this case (potentially) Messi it is swept under the rug and tried to he proven wrong by many people. Autistic people are normal and we are human. Therefore, it is totally normal to be able to relate to Messi if he’s on the spectrum. Being socially awkward is part of the human experience. It’s just that some humans struggle with overstimulation and recognizing or producing facial expressions, which are traits of autism. Lots of love to Messi ❤
i'm an autistic argentinian girl and i agree with you, although messi displays autistic traits, its not okay to be diagnosing anybody just because of little things they do, some say that he is, some say that hes not, nobody knows exactly, and i don't think it should matter that much, Messi is himself and that is the only thing that matters here
I am a socially awkward guy(very much, actually) and when i see messi clips of being socially awkward, i feel like that's literally me! The way he acts, even walks is exactly like i do.. That clip where he awkwardly waits behind Di Maria, yep that happens to me all the time. Im not sure if hes autistic or not, but that makes no difference. Also getting hyperfocused during playing football is something i experience(although i am not like a good player). Even if someone says something to me, or even complements me, i do not even realise. i tend to realise that like 2-3 minutes later. Maybe thats just being passionate about the sport.
The worst thing is people putting labels on people such as autistic or ahdh etc when they don't even know if it's a real thing.half the time it's just a person's perosnality
This is one of the downsides of the internet. People who have no idea of what they are talking about, jumping to conclusions, and judging others because most of those people probably don't know what autism is or don't care enough to find out what it entails, or the reasons only they know, then they are suddenly making comments, maybe they are jealous who knows the internet has made certain people experts they can comment behind their hidden behind a name or a number, it's sad
@xBaphometHx Did you actually read my comment unless you made the decision to defend yourself before reading what I said, I wrote not about Autism per say, I wrote about people talking out of their backside about things they conclude is right and making judgements about others without knowing them whether it's a condition or anything else they want to criticize, for any reason, if they are all that smart why don't they figure out why nobody wants to talk to anyone or anybody about something positive like saying hello or you want to go out somewhere, instead of the repid troll response, it's like people search the internet just to complain about something, it's pathetic people should take a long look into a mirror before brushing their teeth.
I don't think Messi is autistic.I believe he's just a genius in the way his mind runs n operates n u can even see that when he plays the game n his decision makings in his personal life. He's just an introvert guy who only seems socially comfortable with those people closest to him n he loves like his family n friends. Most geniuses are usually very quite, shy n observant n might look socially awkward but thats just their personality.
@@Patjoewalsh But everyone having a talent is not special bc EVERYONE has it. You have a talent then if you excel at a great length THEN you are special. Your "everyone is special" is an oxymoron.
No he just shy/ introverted I think it’s nothing wrong to have it nothing changes he still a good person and goat player but it’s not easy to be most famous person and be a public figure and have cameras everywhere it’s easy to us to say we will be fine but when cameras roll it can get nervous some can handle and some can’t so good, or have fans approach you, Messi now is much more tougher and talkative as he gets older now, he is a leader and talks back and in World Cup 22 we saw a diff side that many don’t talk about unless it is Que mira bobo moment, just look at 2023 ballon dr Messi talked a lot even drogba tried to interrupt 😂
right? His teammates always say hes like one of the boys on the roster. I think when hes on the spotlight it makes him nervous/shy etc etc. For sure hes social around the people he knows. He seem very vocal too on the pitch
Lo que quieren los estadounidenses que sea orgulloso y soberbio como son los deportista de ese país. Pero no, messi es una gran persona,no contaminada con ese espíritu altanero estadounidenses...
Messi is a good guy. He never cared about fame or being in the spotlight. He just wanted to play football and became a world star. He is introvert and I think its disrespectful to do such a disgnosis about the GOAT
you gotta be stupid if you dont know what a shy person is. he is great because of his soccer skills, not his "social" skills, just like a masterful artist doesnt need to see the light of day or have friends to create masterpieces.
How the hell are you supposed to act when a grown a$$ man loses his ish like that? Messi is one of the most humble human beings to walk this earth, and the man cried as if he was being judged in front of God himself. Messi is a perfectly normal person with his own personality. These labels are absolute BS. LEAVE THE MAN ALONE AND ENJOY THE GREAT FOOTBALL HE GRACES US WITH WHILE YOU CAN!
My gosh… Messi is just a humble shy guy. Leave him alone. The world always finds something to frame someone or create a false narrative around them. When someone is great, they always look for something to put them down even when it isn’t true. Messi is simply a shy person who happens to be around cameras 24/7. How many of us do weird things and we don’t have any disorders, things that are much more weirder than him. The cameras pick up everything he does and the world wants to paint it as autism. Not saying autism doesn’t exist in the world but ya’ll are really looking for anything to downplay how great someone can be, and in this case how great Mess can be whilst being a normal shy guy.
Everyone knows Messi is shy person but that doesn't change the fact that he is the 🐐 and it's is totally fine to be less spoken and a shy person rather than being an arrogant and a shameless man who acts like a child in social media 🙌
I think he's just socially awkward and it reverted. He can clearly speak well in public such as the Barcelona farewell press conference, that showed great emotional connection. Ppl though I had mild autism and I believed it until I realised that it's just cause I had low confidence and didn't have many friends when I was younger. Had to learn to read social cues better and adapt my behaviour accordingly.
My brother is on the spectrum and I can see a lot of the traits he displays like hyperfocusing, being socially awkward and shy and great attention to detail reflected in Messi as well. He’s also very brilliant and creative. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being on the spectrum, I think we tend to demonise it a bit and immediately think it only applies to non-verbal people who have high needs, yet it’s a spectrum. Some of the greatest minds that have changed the trajectory of history have been autistic minds, people like Einstein and Newton who have been the best in their disciplines. And Messi falls into that category as well. Again I’m not diagnosing him but there’s so much evidence (on and off the field) that says he most likely is.
I don’t like internet giving diagnoses to celebrities either but I feel like a lot of people in the comments misunderstand autism. There are different spectrums of course, that in some cases can become really hard obstacles in peoples lives (lower functioning, non-verbal autism), but most of the time people on a spectrum would be having troubles in social clues and communication, and also have very specific interests and approach to them. Autistic people are more than often extremely, extremely smart, well read and talented in whatever they choose to do because of how they hyper-focus on this specific thing and want to research everything about. (And for some reason for most of the autistic people I’ve talked to it appears to be either history, nature or engineering lol)
Why would anyone says Messi might be autistic or has autistic traits? dont be stupid!!.....Obviously a lot of ppl dont know what autism is.....Hes simply an introvert...nothing less nothing more......smh!!!!!
As a parent of a child on the spectrum, i would celebrate Messi if he were on the spectrum and say he would be an inspiration to show that it's possible to thrive and excel. It's nothing to be ashamed of. The only reason there's backlash is because some people find it hard to accept or live with disability and eith people with disabilities. Don't fear, don't be ashamed. Learn and understand whatever the disability you are dealing with and figure out how to thrive, manage and grow and sharpen other abilities to the best . And celebrate life! We'll all get a disability in life: poor eyesight, low hearing ability, back pains, who knows what else...
I have ADHD and the part about people on the spectrum having bad motor skills is very true. I was never great at sports despite being tall, having my growth spurt early (13) and being naturally stronger than most kids, your reaction time is utter garbage compared to the average person and at the elite athlete level your reaction time has to be damn near super human or you will get destroyed. The weird thing is your eyes and brain can see something coming and react fast but if feels like your body is moving in slow motion, Messi doesn't have that problem. He is just introverted and a bit weird.
I think all brilliant men in history are/have been in the autistic spectrum. Musicians like jim Morrison, artists like Michel angelo or van gogh and sportsmen like messi, the list goes on.
Dated a girl for two years until her mother told me about her condition with Asperger, certain conversations could be slightly odd but not any worse than what i get from "regular" people. Would be surprised the amount of the population that is on the autistic spectrum without qualifying for a diagnosis.
What people don’t understand is that there is many forms of autism. Sometimes you can’t even tell if a person is autistic. We unfortunately live in a society where being labeled autistic is a bad thing. Which is why I think his Dr’s kept it a secret. But without a doubt messi is on the spectrum. Nothing wrong with that. Amazing footballer.
I'm sure Messi has been around many people who have cried in front of him, you just don't expect to see it on a professional journalist/interviewer. and for the other situations, the dude is very shy, and seems socially awkward, as many of us are, I'm sure he's still not fully used to how people react to him. this is just an introvert acting like a introvert, speaking from experience here. whomever labels him as autistic is just seeing too much into it.
Messi is one of the most sportsmanlike and gentlemanly athletes of all time. So he comes under criticism for it? He should be honored for these qualities.
he’s not autistic i can guarantee that. He is not socially awkward, well not to the intent of being claimed as autistic. Everyone is socially awkward to some extent, but the way Messi personality is makes it seem like he is “more” awkward than we see. When it comes to him being by himself, he acts like a child. Not autistic, just his personality.
Kind of makes sense, walks and studies the game for a few minutes before his attack, thinks differently and did you hear about his first game as a child ? That’s not regular fries mate. What ever he is he’s next level for sure 👍🏽
I don't think Messi has Asperger's. He probably has low social skills and that's it, nothing pathological. He does seems to miss social cues and constant media exposure makes it looks worse. I bet that if they made a compilation of introverts social blunders ppl would think it is 'autistic'
I think he just an introvert, like to keep himself private and sometimes socially awkward. Like many introvert He keep his little inner circle of best friends like brothers who he can trust like fabregas, suarez, neymar, aguero. He's capable showing many emotions but still articulate like he cried at barcelona farewell, express his dissapointment or happyness at interview. He's just not celebrity glamorous rock star type of person and I think he doesn't even like the idea. It's fortunate that he found love in antonela who raised in the same modest, humble, private family.
Autistic or not...so what? Why can't we just focus on the BRILLIANCE of Lionel Messi??? Let's appreciate all the amazing things he's been contributing to the world of Futbol or soccer...and the billions of people he's been entertaining, and the millions of kids he's been inspiring through Futbol/soccer. Why do we have to find ways or reasons to devalue him as a person just because we have a hard time believing that such a human being with exceptional talent & skills actually does exist right before our eyes???
It's just mildly infuriating that an introvert who's good at what he does is immediately branded with some tag of a mental deviation. Messi is great, just simply great. That's it. Nothing autistic about him. He is a classic case of someone who's absolutely invested in his occupation and is socially a bit awkward (eventhough that's debatable, cause I personally don't think so).
You don't think so... Most of his teammates and other players do. He gets singled out. They know he is different, and super talented. They are not doctors, but they know when someone is different. Call it subjective, because it is, but it doesn't mean that it is inaccurate. You know when your best time is upset? That's subjective. But you would guarantee it anyway.
Whatever it is, he's got to the top despite it. Just adds to his mystique which is good . I just love watching him in the field. He acts like a cyborg that's analysing every little detail. Looks like he's playing a computer game when he gets going.
I think its just he thinks on him self he is an average man. And dont understand why someone cry because of him and in his self he thinks "i cant believe this". Its natural. He has no ego. And in next time he touches him to show he is with him. I see nothing wrong with this.
The guy has completed the sport and he doesn’t have to explain anything to anyone, now after so very long you come out with this kind of video seems like a click baiting please stop making such videos for your view and such it’s disrespectful to GOAT.
Messi is just an introvert who is talented with the gift to play football. His talent is not attributed to autism or any speculative diagnosis from the public... lol.
What a coincidence because Messi is from the same birthday as i am June 24 except he's a 80's kid I'm a 90's kid & he also has the same syndrome as I have too 😮
Dr Diego Schwarzstein, whom was the same doctor who treated Messi for his GHD in Argentina debunked the rumors of Messi having autism as he was never diagnosed with Asperger’s or any other form of autism
For someone that does has Aspergers, I’ve played football since I was 7 and other sports, being the son of an athlete as well. Just like others, we have to train and learn to get better just like any other athlete has to do. Other former and current athletes are on the spectrum themselves, former hockey player Peter Forsberg is supposedly autistic (or so I’ve heard). It can help us on the field, most definitely, but in a social setting, it can be a struggle. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have my short comings with engaging with others, but my obsessive interests don’t show any glimpse of slowing down.
Messi has dedicated his whole life to fútbol. Probably why he’s socially awkward. People he’s never met worship him like a god why he probably feels awkward because I’m sure he doesn’t see himself the way others do. Understandable why he wants his old teammates with him in Inter Miami. He’s played with them for so long they probably just see him for who he is.
Messi’s had to deal with pressure to GOAT since he was 15. He started in the best club at 16, and never experienced a lull. He only became better. He’s endured a lot of trash talking, from everyone. He’s introverted and probably neuroatypical, but that’s not a problem. Leave him be.
whether or not messi is autistic doesnt change the fact that he's the goat. i hate how people use autism nowadays in a derogatory way. sooo many people are on the autism spectrum, diagnosed or not, and it is normal. I've met many people with autism- kids i tutored & my younger cousin- and they're just people. some have anger issues, perfectionist tendencies, communication struggles, or learning disabilities. autism is NOT something to be ashamed of nor made fun of. it just makes people a little different, and different is normal. just accept people for who they are.
he's one of the most famous people on earth. I'm sure that has an effect on how he interacts with the world, hence our "normal" interactions/reactions are not that of someone who lives in those circumstances. Most likely we are impressing our beliefs on him while we have not the slightest clue what it's like to be in his shoes for a day and how that shaped him
Most people might have some degree of autism or ADD or ADHD. People with lower degree of autism might be considered normal. Whether Messi has autism or ADD or introvert, there is no disputing a fact that he is GOAT in football after 1 World Cup, 2 Copa, 8 Ballon d'Or, 6 Europen Golden Boot, 2 World Cup Golden Ball, 1 Olympic Gold, 1 Youth World Cup.
We all know he’s not normal, he is better. Call it whatever you want, but the things he does can’t be done by normal human, his game can suck for 99.9%, he’s been doing nothing at all, but right at that 0.1% he’s gonna do something unheard of and score 2 goals. His brain just doesnt work like the rest of us.
If he has that, then i respect him more. He is the best player of.all time, a loyal family man, and honest down to earth person. Exactly how a man should be
Did you just call Rain Man a cult movie?? It was nominated for 8 academy awards. May need to check your definition if "cult". Also, strange way to pronounce the word "Man"
Wait, I thought the journalist opened up about a family issue. Now that I know that it was because he was interviewing Messi, then yeah, Messi's reaction is normal.
Messi couldn't become a professional athlete with autism. Physically, he would not have been able to become an athlete. Asperger's syndrome speaks clearly about this. He's just a socially awkward person and also an introvert
Messi is just shy, last year I made a trip to Fort Lauderdale and I went to a local store with my sister and seen Messi and his family, I went to say hi to his wife and kids, and she was such a sweetheart and Messi came and he was so nervous, when I asked him for a pic, he didn’t reply yes or no, he just accepted with his head and he was smiling nervously. He’s just shy, and yes pics with fans he don’t touch em
