In short, how much expat spends in Bangkok depends on his/her lifestyle. If you eat at Terminal 21 or any university's cafeteria (it is open to the public as well as students) or public hospital's cafeteria, the food is dirt cheap, very hygienic and there are more than 20 varieties to choose from. Freshly brewed hot capuchino is only 20-30 baht/cup! If you use skytrain/subway, it is not expensive. For fast travel, you can hire grab bike which costs a little more but much faster. Apart from rent, food and transportation monthly in Bangkok can be as cheap as $500 or less.

Try noodle and street foods with local people. You can save about 10x times for foods and beverages. Take sky Train or underground Train are cheaper and more convenient in CBD.

If you eat at a restaurant without air conditioning, it will be a lot cheaper.

Expensive for most Thai but still cheap for European money.

If you are on a healthy diet, mainly western, it can be on par with Australia or other western countries. But for those who train and need to either eat vegan low carb or lean beef and high protein it can get expensive. The pork options are not for everyone and there is way too much pork and the chicken over time gets boring. 7/11 has good options for anything you may need last minute for sure, even beauty products in small packets. Very cheap

Pricing more expensive now, still cheaper than Jkt and KL but depending on where you eat I guess.

Living in Bkk is very affordable for a Westerner as long as: 1. You are not renting in the center of the city. 2. Very limited nightlife. 3. No health issues.

Well, a dinner for $40 must be considered rather expensive, it is on par with the big cities in EU. In sweden a Thai buffe is below $20. I have been following Thailand for many years and my mothers friend had a condo in Hua Hin since the 1980ies and she sold it a couple of years ago. It was very nice with a 180 degree ocean view. It will be interesting to hear the hotel price. You came from S.F. right? Then anywhere is cheap! My dream country as a teenager was Japan and they say it is more affordable right now. But they seem to hate foreigners.

I think the cost of food and living is fair, but the cost of the visa is too expensive and overly complicated.

Is Thailand still cheap yes is Bangkok no.Bangkok is not Thailand I find it so weird how most of us foreigners only find our way going to Bangkok,Pattaya,Phuket,koh Samui,koh phi phi,Krabi.Thailand have over 70 different provinces and most of them I can confirm right now in 2024 you can live in them some of them for as little as $700 usd a month. Of course I'm talking about areas far off of all of you guys radar.But even though I chose Thailand I didn't follow the heard. I find the province and specifically the far south part of Thailand to be the best and no im not talking about krabi, Thailand doesn't stop at krabi it goes much further south than that. And this part of Thailand is extremely overlooked and it rarely gets any tourism. They don't allow foreigners to even invest in property in this area so that's why they manage to keep prices 40% lower than the rest of Thailand 😅.

Westerners keep posting on RU-vid thst everything are cheap cheap cheap! Cost are rising because of ya ! lol
