Is Luxury Worth It? 

That really hit when Arjun said "... So they'll take up debt to look successful. Average people are going into Debt, just to be feel respected by society.." Ive seen so many people go through this and take up huge car loans and other loans. Otherwise no one will accept you. Its unfortune and I think it really hurts people :(

I believe in selective luxury - for example I wouldn’t pay $1000 for a tshirt which would last only as much as a $10 tshirt when worn frequently. But I WOULD pay $1000 for a handbag that is handmade, sturdy and gets a great resale value. I would consider the value I get back from the asset, rather than the logo. I won’t get back the price I pay for a Zara tshirt, but I can definitely make more money back on an Hermes bag.

My opinions are: 1. Buying luxury makes the majority of people arrogant. Buying cheap clothes make you humble and you tend to worry about more important things such as education, family, career, health, self-improvement. 2. You can still find good quality clothes at H&M, Primark. You just got to search and recognise what is worth buying and what not. I have a pair of jeans and leggings that lasted more than 7 years! 3. A lot of cheap clothes don’t last because people don’t follow the washing instructions properly. 4. There is no point in buying luxury clothes if you’re not physically fit. I read an article saying that the number one way to look good in clothes is being fit and healthy. 5. You can find second-hand cars in excellent conditions. Some rich people buy cars and sell it for many reasons. One of them is wanting the latest car model. You just have to keep searching and be patient to find one.

I was actually discussing this with my mum the other day. I feel the purpose of luxury goods has disappeared since people are only buying them for the brand name. For example, people wear an LV handbag 👜 but there’s nothing inside the handbag, so what’s the purpose of wearing it? Just to show off to others. People think luxury=class and wealth when it may well mean the polar opposite because those who are actually wealthy severely fail to show off with luxury. There are so many Nas Daily videos on how luxury isn’t worth the price. There is really no point paying more for a logo when buying less popular brands may actually help communities prosper such as buying a bag from Dharavi rather than LV would help bring employment and income while the bag still serves you its function well enough. People have succumbed to the pressure of society where you must own luxury in order to be respected which is extremely saddening to see. Don’t feel pressured by others to buy luxury because you’re only falling to the trap created by these luxury brands! Ultimately what I’m getting to is that the only special aspect of luxury is their mass marketing which adds value to their logo without adding anything unique or special to the product itself. If you can afford & want to buy luxury, there’s nothing wrong with buying it, but if you feel pressured to buying luxury to impress others, it’s a total waste!

The point is rich people have two choices with them.... 1. " Whether they can have all the luxury things they want " 2. " Or they can choose to live simple" But in the case poor or an average person, first point is not even something to consider.

Love how Eb danced around the "you buy them for their logo". I find people who wear designer with the logos everywhere are doing that so people know what they're wearing

I feel that when Ebrahim said that killing a cow for a jacket is better than killing a cow to eat, is just plain wrong you can kill a cow to feed many people, and you can kill a cow for a few jackets, food is more important than a leather jacket, you can still protect yourself with jackets made of different materials

I think it's diffrence between mindsets we carry. The bad part is people judge you by how we look, that our first impression. Except this, we have our own choice if we want luxury or simplicity. For Luxury, look at Reliance group owner Mr. Mukesh Ambani. For simplicity you can refer RATAN JI TATA. And they both are billionaires.

I think expensive things tend to make you earn more. Because if you think you are going to take things on debt you're going in the wrong direction but if you think in a way that I wanna buy this thing and without any debt earn so much that it would be easily affordable to me you are on the right direction. Simplicity tends to keep you in the same surrounding but going expensive would tend to grab you out of your surrounding. And atleast in today's world for doing anything we need money and an idea.( See people do invest in our idea but if somehow it failed then after that who would invest in you , thus having your own money is important)

Not all things in world is either black or White. I would say in most scenarios the most affordable product are more useful But we have to keep in mind that it can't replace expensive products because some times there is a necessity of buying expensive products for the better quality of health, care , protection etc.

Being 50/50 with luxury is the best option because luxury suff also has some material or etc that non luxury items have and it can also benefit the person by selling it but non luxury is the other best option

If I would buy cheap and simple jeans.... And if the trend changes to Torren jeans... Then I would be able to buy it and fit in the trend... But if I buy Expensive jeans... And if the trends shift... One thing that doesn’t favour in buying cheap clothing is that workers have to work in really poor conditions and extremely low wages. Branded clothing companies have better environment for the employees and prob good wages.

Arjun you should have countered him while he was talking functionality of the luxury cars being safe.. He would have lost the argument then and there, coz he himself said that he buy things for their functionality. Also, he was talking about eating burgers, you could have said you eat burgers and wear them. Your carbon footprint is basically higher. For, Its my choice, it my money. Perception of luxury is subjective. Depends on individual taste. I would not buy an luxury brand clothing even if went sale, unless it was within my regular price range, as then the clothing would offer value. I would pay for luxury items that hold worth for me, i.e. Looks good and has resale value. I would also buy replica, not counterfeit.eg, watch that looks similar to a luxury item that like the look of. Owning a few luxury pieces also gives gives pride in oneself, i.e. Earned and bought with own effort.

Just Like Michelin starred restaurants , I think certain people going there just for the sake of Instagram food terror posting rather than necessarily going there for the meal I don’t hate Michelin starred restaurants but in the same time , there is side of Michelin that I don’t always like it , it’s like hit or miss factor , going dining in Michelin starred restaurants is like buying experience not something you go there for some casual dining Sometimes I think Michelin is only a marketing vehicle tool in the culinary world
