Mexico is seeing a manufacturing boom amid US-China trade tensions. More American companies are outsourcing factory operations to Mexico - with, among other reasons, the need to de-risk supply chains.
But more Chinese corporations are also investing billions in Mexico as a production base to get closer to regional consumers - a practice called nearshoring - and to get around US tariffs imposed on Chinese exports since the 2018 Trump era. Since 2023, China has overtaken the US as Latin America’s top trading partner.
00:00 Intro
01:08 Mexico’s manufacturing renaissance
02:48 Why Chinese companies are investing in Mexico
04:43 Is China a rising threat to the US in Latin American trade?

China is doing business with Mexico because they have a bilateral agreement. If Mexico sells “assembled” products of Chinese goods to the USA it is a completely normal business transaction which any country is allowed to do in a free trade. It doesn’t mean that China is trying to open a backdoor to the USA market despite of sanctions. China wants to do business with any country in the world as she abides by the principle of free trade while the USA is only talking about “free trade and democracy” but doing the opposite.

Eh a tiny bit will move, but mexico and africa are not functional countries/continents The best of Africa is south africa and they can't even keep the power on, like 60% of the time there is no electricity in south africa, and the rest of Africa is even worse The arab part of africa is functional like egypt but they are sworn enemies to us/isreal Mexico is literally ruled by cartels, who basically control most of the government politicians allowing them to do basically whatever they want. Large populations in south america/Mexico are all drug addicts not exactly a recipe for a functional country

China is moving toward higher value economies like EV cars, green energy, large scale ship building, and computer chip manufacturing. It is outsourcing to ASEAN (in particular Vietnam) and Latin America. ASEAN is close to China. Latin America is close to USA. China also outsources to East Africa. In the next 10 years, the amount of finished products coming out of China is dramatically reduce. Yet the component export from China will dramatically increased. It is really no DE-RISK or DE-COUPLE. It is just China moving up the value chain. And you will hear less about China, and more about "finished product" exporters like Vietnam and Mexico.

If this move is for industrial upgrading, then why would China have stopped publishing youth unemployment rate after it rose to a record high of 21% in June 2023? The truth is multinational companies were given no choice but to move out of China due to the trade war, pandemic policies (once a moving-out was triggered, it wouldn’t be easily stopped after the pandemic), broadened anti-espionage laws and the most hostile business environment in decades

@OFarrell1502 That's because moving higher value chain of ecomony requires more advanced engineering and way less workforce in the factory. China industrial robot accountable for 52% of global market, and expect to reach 70% by 2030, and you wonder why it's a big impact on the job market especially on young people? For example, in the traditional textile industry, more than a hundred workers are just for one production line. In contrast to the car industry, only a few technicians are required on the robot workforce production line. Industry 4.0 is not a joke, and guess who suffers the most? Youth workforce who has no technical background but used to work in traditional factories with low paying jobs. If you really look into the data, China industry output had actually grown 6.6% last year despite massive factories moved out of China prior to your claim. So your notion of truth..😂, but really, it's not your fault since the media has been pushing that narrative.

@@admiralwei growth of cpi in China went up by 0.2%, and exports declined by 4.6%. They reflected the domestic and international market sales, not necessarily linearly but relatively. February 24, 1948, Declassified U.S. Foreign Policy: Furthermore, we have about 50% of the world’s wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. ... that Japan and the Philippines will be found to be the corner-stones of such a Pacific security system and that if we can contrive to retain effective control over these areas there can be no serious threat to our security from the East within our time. Taiwan was added to the Pacific security system after Chiang's army retreated to the island of Taiwan in 1949. South Korea was added after the Korean War in 1953. The attempt with Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia was abandoned in 1975.

The imposition of trade tariffs by the US has changed nothing. US is only buying more goods from the like of Mexico, Vietnam, India, etc, at a higher price than those previously bought from China direct. Despite de-coupling, de-risking, friend-shoring and whatever you call it, China remains the global manufacturing hub. The trend will continue for China to export less and less goods to the USA and more and more goods to countries that do not impose trade tariffs and other restrictive trade practices.

Only in Texas side. No. It’s not an exaggeration. Chinese supply chain, from speed, reliabilty and network of sub-suppliers are unmatched. I remember the first time I came here. What’s your equivalent of Mouser or digikey or mcmaster carr or grainger? They have a freaking market for that and no it’s not next day delivery. In most cases it’s next hour. Same with 3d printing, machining, fixtures, etc. the only thing came below my expectations is kuaidi or delivery. How is it not possible to ship next day ? Even if I want to pay, there’s no next day guarantee. Everyone says shipping in china is fast? I beg to differ. The US has better shipping. Not cheap. But available. In China, even you wanted to pay, not possible with SF or YTO or other big shippers. in 30 years? Maybe. But in 3 years? Impossible.
