Music has SO many benefits! Mental health just one of them… aside from that, as Nikola Tesla said “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration” (I.e. MUSIC BABYYYYYY!!!) 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
There's an amazing vid on here of you and Skid performing an acoustic version of 'She's an Angel' on the streets of london in 1990. Your voice sounds fantastic.
Glad you mentioned Rival Sons but I’m not familiar with that song but the dark fighter EP is magnificent. Highly recommended.. follow up light fighter I did not grab onto as much. love this channel and your wisdom and experience
Building a personal brand via a powerful social media audience & message to supplement your music is the best way to do it now. Make your self uncopyable. That’s what I’m about to do. You gotta be a business owner & business minded to make it. And be a musical genius helps but at least being a clever songwriter for sure. BE YOUR OWN LABEL. It’s never been easier, but most artists resist that and wanna be ‘just the artist’. Which is a lame mentality thatll keep them forever obscure.
Ive been playing in bar bands since 88. Still having a great time, and playing more than ever. We are seeing a younger audience at our gigs due to the rise of shows like stranger things. Looking and sounding great Jizzo!
Hey Jizzy, great show. Of the “new” bands you listened to- I personally love Dirty Honey and Blacktop Mojo, not a fan of Greta Van Fleet and I haven’t listened to the last yet, but I’ll give it a try! I also really like the sound of Black Smoke Trigger. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I grew up in the 80s and still listen to all my favorites from then the most often. Multiple playlists for work that includes plenty of 70s , throw in some 50s doo-wop, 60s psychedelic, Motown, some early 90s and then the newer artists who remind me of my favorite 😂. That’s just me, I listen to music I like that makes me feel good. Keep rockin and I’ll keep listening! ❤
Thanks again, Jizzo. Entertaining as always. I never really made money playing but got my first gig as a teen when your first album was (Black)out and still doing it. Got gigs to this day coming up that don't pay well (or anything). I'm a rocker. I don't care and I sound great :)
Those bands are what corporate America wants you to listen to. There are much more rockin new bands that actually have a sound of their own. Let us know when you want more bands.
Dude!!! I;m so glad to see you!!! The first time I saw you was on MTV's Headbanglr's Ball when you performed "She's and Angel" outside the Marquee> I loved that clip soo much! Ancient history. And here I ma now - 35 years later, listening to these cool rock and roll stories!! Keep on keepin on man!!!
Yes, very true LOVE channels to you when you play music. Songwriting, creativity, it comes from somewhere, you open up your heart, your play with love, it comes to you. Love is God. It's true!
Been a rock fan for forty five years but only in the last eighteen months have I discovered the brilliance of Fu Manchu. Amazing band, not one bad track. I’ve bought all their albums now.
Totally agree. This man speaks the truth, and in fact, preaches to the choir. Uncle Jizzo, you should lecture on the business. I feel like I am not alone when I hear you speak. Gods bless you.
My wife teaches piano and violin to kids. The main point is learning to be disciplined at something. Learning to persevere at developing a skill and accomplishing something hard. Great if they enjoy it too and clearly only a nano percentage go on to make a living at it.
If you only stick with the old and don't check out new music... THAT'S a waste of time... plenty of great new bands out there... go figure !!! HERE'S one of them ! BTW uncle JIZZO rocks !!! ⚡⚡
i cant be bothered with new stuff either, because when i give it a try i dont hear anything new and certainly nothing better. The first 2 here were good bands, i would no doubt enjoy to see live, but 10minutes later I cant remember them at all. The Rival sons was a little more memorable, but nothing that is going to pick me up and shake me. The GVF was yes a Zep rip off sound wise, but to me the song sounded the most original. Its not party music, but makes me want to perhaps give the whole album a listen, but probably in the bath rather than cruising down at the beach with the top rolled down.
Yep there are still Love/hate jams going round and round in my head Wasted in America had all your chatting about your in depth look at a musicians feel/take about the new bands.
SAG-AFTRA member here, and I make about $10 a month on residuals from my feature film and TV roles. Member dues are over a thousand a year. But just like the 90's on the Sunset Strip, " you gotta pay to play". So I've relegated acting to more of a hobby that I'll get back to if/when things get better. I'll keep it short this time and just say that the fundamental reason things in these once-lucrative industries totally suck now are because of greed. Simple, greed is what killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Greed in record company monopolies, green in Hollywood- and now greed in the touring industry. Live Nation has become the new evil empire that's taking control of artists ability to even perform live. Fortunately, the DOJ just filed a lawsuit to stop LN/Ticket Master from what it's doing, which is to become the gatekeeper to who can even perform live. And guess what- they want it to 'pay to play'. Coming soon to a dystopia near you.
@@JPearlTV would be happy to. There's much I can't say online because it would burn people I've known in the biz 20+ years. But yes, there's a lot that needs to be shared because it's going to change the touring industry for artists just like record industry changed it for the artists; well, ruined it to be more precise.
@@jpearl1274 is there a DM or something? I'm not that RU-vid savvy. Everyone reaches me through my business website, which there's a link for on my profile here somewhere.
The Gretta tune could be called Led Zebra but it works. I like the Gretta Van Fleet tune. In another time that song could of made them a household name with a permanent income, not so much today however but the song was dreamy with nice peaks and valleys and enjoyable
Hey uncle Jizzo! My biggest problem with music is quitters.. Learn all the songs, then someone decides they cant make it to practice anymore.... Rinse and repeat....zimmyjim
I played since I was about 14 in 1972 thru the mid 90's. then got into production work pretty heavily because it was paying my bills with a surplus. I still played and kept up for awhile but eventually I was just working to much. Semi retired and the guitars and amps are coming back out.
My point above being I think these videos you do are great, could really help people more than u think just with your demeanor and thoughtfulness... if that's even an intent of yours by doingthese clips? or very interesting for fans of music ... we thank you
I used to buy a new record every week. As I got older, the less I cared about new bands. Most new bands just do nothing for me. I haven’t liked a new band since The Strokes in 2001. I lost interest after the first record and haven’t cared about them since. A few months ago, I started watching live videos from Amyl and The Sniffers. I enjoy their second record… and I’d probably see them live, but I’m sure it won’t be in heavy rotation years from now like Led Zeppelin 1 or Jane’s Addiction’s Nothings Shocking. Everything reviewed here in this video just makes me say, “meh”.
Haha yes, smart move involving other bands and yr a nice guy Jizzo, we really admire your videos over here in New Zealand, maybe even more than we idolized that first Love\hate album on cassette when I was young (still blast Straight Jacket in car with my young kids often,) ... if you ever want to review new zealands most dangerous band HOODOO WRONG, we would be honored as long as weird is ok , or our idols, instrumental band LIGHT YEARS NZ , yes and thanks again from your old pal .... haha man that's such a hook line of your videos, just like a hook in a song, I don't know if it's a hook but where it breaks into Spray Paint One Black Can I'm Really Famous Man that's as hooky as it gets from an album I have loved for over 30 years, just how I hear / feel it . Gracias Senor
Hey Jizzo...so about money the thing that pissed me off here in Buffalo was a couple bass players that were around had money or there parents bought them tons of great bass gear.... couldn't play their way out of a paper bag...pissed me off I had to bust my ass working to get my first SVTs & bass. Anyway as far as money in skating...you need it to my sister was a competitive figure skater but less talented got to go places because their parents bought off judges lol. Anyway I'll be talking to you hopefully in August when you guys are in Niagara Falls.
The Stones, The Strokes and so many other rock bands had a rich parent or a rich member BUT I don't care how rich you are, the art is in keeping it all going through great songs and being able to perform. The Strokes aren't my cup of tea, but they're undeniably great and EXTREMELY privileged. I don't think money makes a band that can last.
Jizzo, I'm comenting before I watch this video because I know if you're asking such a ( forgive me, I know you intend the question to pique interest and initiate an argument, defending music before its even watched. I simply cannot wait for a good solid dose of Rock History, Theory, Psychology and humor. I don't know if you knew my friend J. Grosso. He gad a RU-vid show called loveletters to skateboarding. He became the aficionado of all things skateboarding. In my opinion, you wear that same crown in your field of expertise. Bravo my man. FUCKIN BRAVO!!! ( P.S. For me to compare you to my homie, may he R.I.P., is just about the biggest compliment I can think of) 🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@jpearl1274 Sláinte Jizzo 🍻 It's my honest opinion. Not trying to get likes or noticed. I've been listening to your vocals since the Blackout album came to me in the mail. I was in one of those listen and pay lateral clubs. Now I'm gonna blow your mind and I swear on my Dad's grave this is true... They always sent like 3-4 cassettes every few months. Well the day yours came in, another very important album to you came in too. If you wanna guess, I'd love to hear your idea. If not, I'll tell ya later. Trust me, you'll trip out because only the ROCK GODS could influence that parcel mate. I actually just realized the importance myself. Ok, fuck it. I gotta tell you now. Your album the R.J.D. on the ### R##E#!!!!!!!! Ok give up. THE MOB RULES DUDE! How is that for a beautiful nice golden slice of random. And I just found out about how R.J.D. Was your homie last week. So awesome. I have a new story. The one where My buddy Chris and I got to hang with Van Halen at a strip joint in North Louisiana is unbelievable and is a wild tale and totally true. But this one is #2 on my killer rock story. It just pushed my Damon Johnson gave me and my buddy a light for a smoke as we bumbled around the back of the Hirsch Coliseum listening to whoever played after they did( Brother Cane). We got too drunk and it sold out before we got there. I didn't even think to ask him to get us in because I had never heard them yet. They were brand new up there. Talk about a real life Beavis and Butthead moment. In retrospect, I'm glad because accidentally we didn't look uncool. Or we looked like the two dumbest shits ever. Lmmfao Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm a new subscriber. I've been listening since day one, but I'm only at about two months following your channel. You're intellect is extremely impressive. You're a smart dude, no doubt about that. 👍👍
Hey Jizzy, great commentary! the dirty honey song was ok, but i just checked out their latest song "cominghome" and it's way better. Give it a listen...Rock On Brother!
I’m a conscious emcee and beat maker and I feel that it isn’t something lucrative. Trying to preach morals and enlighten society is one thing and making money is another. In general, there’s hardly any money in music.
Denying Led Zeppelin influence is one of the dumbest things a band can do. EMBRACE IT. If they ask you about LZ, say "YES! We love Led Zeppelin! They're a huge influence on what we do!" Kingdom Come's debut album was fucking incredible, but the media shit all over them because the drummer made a bad joke by saying "Who?" when asked about LZ.
I’m 59 and discovered a band on RU-vid named Lovebites! They are an all female Japanese Heavy Metal band. They have like 5 full length concerts on RU-vid, and Blew my Fucking mind how talented they are 🤘😎 If you like Metallica meets Maiden meets Dream Theater, check them out! 🎤🎸🎸🎸🥁
I’d like to hear your opinions on the European bands making music similar to 80’s rock. There are a lot of great bands overseas that will never get an American audience.
The best current rock bands come from other countries outside of America, as places like Sweden have better rock scenes right now. Check out Crashdiet and Crazy Lixx.
I was gonna say the same thing, I don't listen to new music either unless they're from outside of the US. The material Crash Diet has put out is better then the crap you might hear in the States. Another band with some catchy material is Nasty Ratz, similar to Crash Diet. Beau Hill actually worked with Nasty Ratz on some of their stuff.
@@sampiHBK00 in case you haven't heard Nasty Ratz you can start here, Made of steel, N.A.S.T.Y. and Price of love. I'd say their material is traditional 80's Heavy Metal, let me know..
I see my nephews taking all sorts of lessons for golf, baseball, soccer, piano, guitar, lacrosse, etc., and I think to myself, "Why are they torturing themselves and running themselves ragged when they have a slim to zero chance of being successful with any of it?
wild thought what if musicians had apprentices that could arrange for playing /singing for those that can't or are just retiring ... the 'apprentice' would have special legal things going on so that everyone makes proper $ songs are done how they should be (something written somewhere to ensure that) and new songs can be written and properly approved by the original artist and some variation of other bandmates vote in.. this probably can't work... the artist will have a shadow to learn 'them' or have some agency that finds trains and like hogwarts the new wizard ready for the real apprenticeship before bugging the artist.. probably for little to no pay.. but like any trade it is 'possible' ... not saying you.. your voice n all is still kicking it like mad... but ... what about Love Hate or Quiet Riot in 2080 ... hek maybe by then some band around that long may turn into a religion in some twist of cain... (too much twilight zone watching for me) like I say .. is a thought ..that wouldn't or couldn't happen ... but would ensure that if nothing new and good is coming out ..there is the old 'staples of music' base that can 'properly' be passed forward to the future (so ya don't have a song like She's an Angel played on accordion or something like that that isn't anything that should have ever happened to a song like that (who knows maybe it'd sound good lol ..er naw.. dang watch weird al step in here n kill it lol wasn't a challenge just a comment) .. IDK I've got lucky and have found some bands albums that I've missed n the sound n feeling is all there .. guess that just points to the style too but dang was like best present I could have got ... new ..old songs ... lot of em are just remakes... maybe some bit of the mojo from just that would generate something new out of a new artist... dunno what will happen for venues in the future.. imho big issue .. they are easily too expensive where ya cant go see a band for $15-25 unless you wanted sick seats like back in the day ... live vs youtube is no comparison ... ya need the people for the atmosphere and real energy ... at those prices you could experience so much more ..idk just trying to figure on that aspect ..no exposure due to poverty... and kids stuck to game consoles vs going outside to see a show which costs less than a battlepass.. I would teeter towards talking inflation and impossibilities unless they figure out the fuel prices in a world ya can't even be a gasboy anymore to afford the gear to be a musician ..so will end this thought here ... keep up the stories Jizzo! really love to catch ya next time you make it to Windsor Canada
Great channel, Jizzy! I look forward to your videos! My old band (Last Nights Villain) opened for you last year at Dr Pepper Park in Roanoke, VA. We broke up in August and I went solo and signed a deal with Golden Robot Records. I’m 52 and it took 30 years for me to get signed. 😂 I play and write music because I love it! Keep rocking with QR! 🤘🏻 Here’s my first solo single. My EP will be out around August. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FVEd6GWM7Kw.htmlsi=iwNbGNYWoqSgNKmi
