I tie a satin scarf around the front of my head and tie it securely at the back, then put my bonnett on over the scarf. You mentioned that you wore your bonnet all day because you didn't want your ends receiving friction from your clothes. What I do is, I put good old fashioned hair grease on the ends of my hair to protect them and it works. My hair is nearly bra strap length now.

@yvonnestarr8933 hi, I know it's been a while but I wanted to ask how often do you grease your ends? Just so I don't over or under do it.

I would grease my ends once a week after shampoo and conditioner. Any more often and it weighs my hair down and the curl goes. l don't have to grease my ends anymore because my hair has grown long and thick but I do add Blue Magic hair grease after applying a leave in conditioner and this lasts me until the next shampoo.

@yvonnestarr8933 Omg thank you for replying!! I have been stressing do much since I stopped my wearing my bonnet so much my ends aren't growing as quick as they usually do and they're very dry now. I just wanted to ask when your hair was growing you only used it on the ends and now you use it on your whole head I'm assuming? Also is this in place of an oil because I usually do leave in conditioner and then coconut oil and let my hair air dry. Thank you!

Remember hair grease is a sealant. If you use it on dry hair it will keep the hair dry. Hair grease should be used on wet, well conditioned hair to seal in moisture. Your assumption is correct in that I use it all over my hair now (not the scalp though). My routine is that I shampoo, rinse, deep condition putting a plastic bag over my hair for about 20 minutes. I then detangle while the conditioner is still in and warm from my body heat under the plastic. Rinse that off and then use whatever leave in conditioner you use then section my hair into 8. I use a pea sized amount of grease on each section and brush it through, using a Denman styling brush, but any styling brush will do. and leave it to air dry. my curls turn out shiny and lush and gorgeous. @@user-ot6jn2df1d

@@naturallytracy5602 I started putting my satin scarf on with my bonnet so it wont touch my edges. Oh and I love using my satin pillow case. I travel out of town with them. Lol

All of a sudden I was like “ ITS THE BONNET” Honestly my edges were so strong that they could even fight all my battles 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But since the Bonnet 🥲

I thought something was wrong 😭😭😭 and then I thought about the bonnet and now that I’m finding all this information about other people experiencing the same thing really made me feel better!!! Hopefully my edges can start recovering now that I am discontinuing the use of my bonnet 💕

Legit! I tell myself this all the time! And now you just seconded it. Those bonnet…. everyday just laying on your edges is a no no. Especially the ones with tighter bands around them for a “tighter” fit! I’m almost certain this is why my nape hasn’t been growing!!!!!

Same issue! I think I'm going to get a satin edge wrap and keep my bonnet on over it, so my edges are protected.

Allowing the hair to breathe without satin scarves, bonnets, or caps on during the day is critical to preserving your hairline, edges and hair. I've found that to be true

I tried to sleep with a bonnet recently and I kept waking up to adjust it, realizing that it was causing a circulation issue (I would feel tension at the back of my neck and pull on the edge and feel a rush of blood run on through). So I took it off and just put a scrunchy in since I have a satin pillowcase. The tension headaches stopped so I think youre onto something, girl. 😎

This definitely explains why my edges started growing back then all of a sudden after going back wearing my bonnet without a scarf or wrap boom my edges are thinning very fast again. I pull my bonnet down past my ears & thought I was safe, I don’t know why I didn’t think if the bonnet moves or fall off during my sleep of course it can cause friction and pulling.🤦🏾‍♀️ so glad I came across this video & in my eyes confirmed my suspicions. Lolz

I was so disappointed, bonnet thinned my edges. So I decided to wear a thin satin band by the edges then cover the rest of the hair with a bonnet.

Yes. I have worn a satin scarf for years and never an issue. Since using a bonnet my edges started to come out. I have a head full of hair but edges started to thin it out. No more non net for me.

My bonnet has a thick satin stretchy loose band…no elastic so it moves freely on my edges with no friction and I sleep on a satin pillow case just in case it comes off a bit but it has no elastic in it at all

I have the same issue! I had not use any heat on my hair for two years and when I Going through pictures over that time and realize the rest of my hair was growing thicker and healthier but my edges were so thin! Ihaf been debating shaving them 🥺 but Now I I know the issue I’m going to try to rectify it! I am a professional cosmetologist and texture Expert so I really felt like I was failing😩 it’s good to know that we’re all still learning throughout our hair journeys💕

I noticed sometimes when the band of my bonnets sits on my edges it starts to hurt so I started to let it sit on my eyebrows and I think that works better.

I bought a bonnet because my hair is thinning! I'm only 18 and just stress is making my hair thin at the edges and I have really thick hair and just noticed this month it's thinning, should I not wear bonnet?

Same problem here. One thing I learned is to treat your edges like yhe rest of your hair. Trim it if yheres breakage, oil it and deep condition etc. I know too many girls who treat their edges like a seperate entity and they stay on the forehead and are never touched until its time to lay them. Make sure you wash out the edge control as well. Dont sleep on scalp massages. 😂 i found out the hard way. My bonnet always tugged and slid while I slept, and I just noticed that one day it I felt tension right where the band was. Smh so glad I caught it

Hey Tracy👋🏾 great discovery I actually thought about this several months ago and made the switch to a satin pillow case as well. I'm still growing my edges back from post partum shedding and realized that elastic band one wasn't conducive to that regrowth. I also ended up designing a new bonnet with an adjustable drawstring so that I can have the option if I want. Thank you for sharing your experience, this still be helpful to others as well. I use castor oil , rosemary and peppermint oil in the area to help with growth.

So I wear a super loose silk turban . It doesn’t have a elastic and isn’t tight at all . I worry about this too because I wear my turban all the time . Do you think it will cause breakage ?

I do not bother with a bonnet. I tried for two days. It was very complicated. My hair suffers no breakage. Do you find that bonnets are necessary?

Same problem. I wear my bonnet all the time. The left side of my edges broke off. I am going to get an edge wrap to protect my edges. Do you have any ideas on how to grow edges back?

Right now I’ve been letting my hair do it’s thing. I currently sleep only with my satin pillow case. It’s been helping. I also use my hg oil from KIN essentials

Did anyone try to put their bonnet just after their edges I think this could be a solution if the bonnet won't move at night maybe having drawstrings bonnet, I want to try this out, did anyone do?

I wear my bonnet so it's over my ears and on my forehead, and I've never had issues with my edges. I'm pretty tender-headed and I can feel the pulling if I wear it over my hairline.
