I wish you would do more and longer videos, I love how you explain everything. Plus you have such a calm and soothing voice that makes you feel at home listening to your videos. THANK YOU.
@@growingoutthebox so now you’re making me jealous. I lived in Italy for 4 years and remember how fresh pesto tasted. I will have to plant some elephant garlic in the fall. ☺️
Hey Nikki. Looking forward to the harvest. I think I will have enough to add to my store this year. Growing a lot for seeds this year. growingoutthebox.com
I love your channel! Your easygoing mannerism and soothing voice is calming. I live in SW Ga. so your channel is so helpful since I have raised beds as well. You are a blessing.
I usually stop applying Alaska’s 5-1-1 fish emulsion before the garlic scapes emerge or once I see the scapes because fish emulsion is a nitrogen-rich fertilizer that focuses on vegetative growth. Just before the garlic scapes emerge or right after they emerge, I switch to a high-phosphorus and potassium fertilizer like Alaska’s 0-10-10 Morbloom liquid fertilizer, which promotes bulb growth just like harvesting the scapes.
Very nice! I think I'll try elephant garlic next year, yours look so strong and healthy. I currently have a variety called Carcassonne Wight which i have never tried but smells very strong!
Good morning, Keith. Your Garlic is looking healthy. Couple questions. You water twice? Once just tap water, and once again with an emulsified fertilizer? We only grow German Extra Hardy and Music varieties, both hard necks and the indicator for harvesting is 2 fold. When the bottom 3 sets of leaves turn yellow/brown, and most years at that 20 day benchmark, I'll pull 1 of the smallest and largest to see what the bulbs actually look like. We too want them to be as large as possible, but if left too long the paper wrapping can split, causing decreased storage capacity. It really has mostly to do with the amount of rainfall we get during that last 3 weeks. We usually watch for an extended dry forecast at that time. TYFS my Friend. Oh, how is that mass growing for resale doing?
Hey Mark and Ms Rosa. Yes, I water all my plants before adding a liquid fertilizer. It helps the fertilizer stay in the system longer as oppose to watering dry and leach through faster. The scapes is the indicator that tells me about 20 days but to your point, the tell tell is when the bottom 3 leaves start to brown. I also add morbloom butI don't talk about it because it is pretty strong and people in general will think more is better and destroy their entire season. My best grape vine has been set back because I added some last year and she cooked. Won't do that again. The other 4 grape vines have taken off this year. Hey, that's how I learn. I do a lot of stuff that never make it to the camera so what I do show is tried and proven over and over. Then I have my good friend Mark to always ask the good questions. lol. As far as inventory. lol. I sold half last year so I am hoping that the 500 plus corms will make up the difference. 2026 I plan on retiring. As you can see the channel has taken off so I am ahead of schedule in terms of residual income from my social media platforms. IG is approaching 98K, about to hit 82k here on youtube, tiktok is around 33K and facebook I just started focusing on just passed 11K. Oh, and I have an online store now. All my seeds keeps selling out. The seed shop is where I will sell the garlic and this year I am focussed on seed collection of the things I grow. I want people to see where their seeds come from. growingoutthebox.com Take care of Ms. Rosa and that grandbaby Mark. Always good to hear from you.
Good morning. Blessings. Those plants are healthy. Would you please advise where I can purchase the elephant garlic bulbs to plant for fall. Thank you.
I had them last year for sale. Sold out in 2 days. I have my store now so I will be putting them in the store this year. growingoutthebox.com I have the black cherry tomatoes there.
I don’t really cook. lol 😂. I grow the things my daughter loves to cook and now my son. We will be adding an outdoor kitchen and be cooking in the garden.
I just harvest the german garlic but other video are saying hang up and let dry for 3 or 3 weeks in cool indirect sunlight. Trying figure out they on the back porch spreader out on a table. I feel say because I can't out what do with. Can go back in a dark room with no sunlight and little ventilation. Back the in that cool dark room is some air. I think I should have harvest them sooner some bulbs were damp and came apart. I just learn I was supposed to have been cut the scapes. Not let them almost flower. What to do? Thanks
Yes onions produce scapes also. When they do you can cut the scapes and use as a mild onion but you should pull the onion because water can get into the hollow stem and cause rot.
