Shame about the boot. Not sure why UK doesn't get treated with the bigger SUV types sold in the U.S, that have decent boot space even with all 7 seats up. The KIA Telluride looks amazing but we end up with the much smaller Sorento...
@@thedoctorsgarage I thought that was the case but you have the ford ranger and f150 which are monsters roaming the UK and some even in crowded London. I have a feeling its more about assumed consumer wants rather than road sizes though it may have been a significant factor previously .
You did point the right guess re 3rd row up while the 2nd down. We used at as a table at picnic during the rainy day. You can slide fwd the 2nd rod for better sitting [and it works either way when upright - slide it and a checked comfy sitting for people 175cm (3rd row)+175cm (midrow)+182 (fr)], while eating & drinking. And one of my friends used it for a long trip with his leg hurt. So he just sat on the 3rd row and stretched his injured leg, his wife drove.
Bringing back this video from the past :-) One video I wish someone could put out there, and I was curious if you had the capability to, is a comparison between the Disco 5 and the Defender 110 in terms of practical third row usage. From my understanding they're fairly similar in interior volume but everyone says the Disco 5 has a way better third row, can you expand or show? We'd be using the 3rd row for school carpool emergencies, or last minute passengers. Thanks in advance!
Hey Michael- i assume You mean a new defender 110? I haven’t sat in the back of a 110 but I think in terms of size and comfort the D5 would win. The third row in the 110 is quite tight from what I’ve seen but in the D5 you could get 2 adults in pretty comfortably. The other option is to wait a little longer and get the new defender 130!
@@thedoctorsgarage Thanks for the reply! I figure the 130 really only adds 16 inches of Cargo Space, but the seat rails and positions stay the same. I haven't seen a 130 in person to verify, but the Dealership mentioned it's basically the 110 with some extra booty.
I enjoyed that video. Thanks for making the effort. You mentioned black wheels. What is your plan? I currently have the bright alloys and am thinking to save money just getting them painted or powder-coated black. Would you do one of those or go with new black wheels?
Well disco 5 is more dynamic more comfi to drive but I think disco 4s third row is more roomier and more head room and also disco 4 sides windows are better more wide and square shape gives you more visibility, disco 5s side windows to third row is sow narrow.
Hey mate, Great video. Been racking my brain last few weeks weather to go new defender or disco 5. Very similar in pricing with specs I would like, but with a growing family, it’s hard to pick the defender over the disco, (even though the little boy in me is screaming defender!) because if the 7 adult sized seats with iso fix points/anchors. Do you believe the disco 5 is just as capable off road as defender? Does it allow you to drive in raised air suspension height and does the under side of disco have any protection plates? Cheers
Hey Alan- thanks and I completely see where you’re coming from. When it’s time to change my D5 I’ll also be in the same boat! I love the new defender but as you say when it’s the same price as a D5 and it’s your main family car you do get so much more comfort in a discovery- The discovery also has a bigger boot space. I think the new defender is probably a bit more capable off road but I think that would be extremes and for what most use the D5 for it’s too capable. You can raise to off road height and access height but it returns to normal height over about 20-30mph (I imagine the defender would do this too?) protection plate wise I’m not sure… It’s a hard decision - I would recommend going for a drive in both and seeing how you feel- for me the defender 110 as cool as it looks doesn’t have the same everyday comfort that a D5 has for the same price.
@@thedoctorsgarage yeah would love the opportunity to test drive both, however our local JLR dealer has no stock of either car, and any that do come in are ordered deliveries. Im in Victoria, Australia. With all that’s happening with covid here, a test drive won’t be in sight for quite sometime. We are currently in our states 6th lockdown, which is a bit of a bummer to say the least! Thanks for the great feedback. Cheers
@@alancollier818 I just bought the Defender and have 3 kids, all in car seats. Space is not that great but my kids are still small and don’t mind it. I just couldn’t pass on how neat the Defender is. Discovery is nice as well but it’s got a totally different look.
My fathers disco 5 almost 4 year old 30k miles has just lost compression in 2 cylinders = £16k new engine Over last 25 years he’s bought every model new and they have been brilliant so this is very disappointing
Mark I feel his pain- exactly the same thing happened to mine at the same mileage - had to have a new engine. Fortunately it was covered under warranty 🙏🏼 Sorry to hear you needed a new one out of warranty
