I've always felt that my curls should be defined to look neat. I'm learning now to really love my hair, and I'm finally there. I LOVE my hair! I do think that we need to see more influencers with tight coily, nappy hair, but there aren't many that are spotlighted.

The damage we do to our daughter's self esteem by calling their hair nappy is sad. Glad you have come to terms with that "n" word and realize that you hair is good. As for me, the only style that celebrates our hair's texture, gravity defying capabilities, and shows off its true glory is the Afro. While beautiful, protective styles tend to foster people's tendency to neglect their hair and scalp (going more than a 7-10 days without shampooing and conditioning).

Oh definitely about finding a balance between protective styling and wearing your hair out!! It’s always a journey, and I’m glad we can talk about it here and have a space to share our experiences. I think our parents generation didn’t truly get to learn to love and accept their hair. Hopefully we can change that in the next generation

You can wash your hair biweekly without a problem though. You can also use ACV spray for your scalp when protective styling.

My mom's hair is easily defined than mine and both of my daughters have easily defined curls than mine but I'm an afro lover so it never bothered me personally...I wasn't labeled nappy but coarse was the term I remember being used with my hair. I think hair is beautiful in all its forms though and yours is gorgeous!!!

So, I do have a defined curl pattern, but my best friend has 4b hair that doesn’t define easily… and she always comments on my wash n go’s or twists… but man I wish I could keep my protective styles in as long as hers! I envy how well styles hold for her, like she will have a protective style in for a week and it still looks good. But with my hair it’s frizzy and not holding up as well. I make it a point to compliment her protective styles as much as I can! There is SO much beauty to be seen in all the textures and curl patterns. ❤️

My front of my hair is straight and won't curl, while the back is curly... Lol. It used to bother me before. Then I realised I have a combination of my parents hair patterns. I won't get the well defined wash and go look everyone sports. I eventually embraced my hair as is, after a lot of stressful moments. Everyone should embrace their kinks and curls as is. The trauma will be a lot less.

Hey from Philadelphia! Nice video and your fabulous hairdo. I cannot braid at all! I have tried Slippery Elm and Marshmallow root for "the Slip" to have easy finger combing, no tangles 2 years ago when I saw on Curly Proverbs You tube channel you may saw her. They both caused itchy scalp. Well I have 4c majority of my hair but the part at the bottom back at the ears to my neck is 4c. That hair has softer curls, which is true to have 2 types of hair strands at the same time. I cannot use Aloe Vera because it cause dryness and coconut causes dryness and made my hair feel hard and my daughter's hair too. A lot of women I know say the same thing of having low porosity hair too. I tried a lot of methods to have moisture, to use humectants to help penetrate the hair strands. I did the henna with honey and olive oil and water, mix it and apply to my hair and cover it and left it on for 3 hours. Wash it out good then apply some conditioner to make sure it doesn't became dry. It still was dry. I said "Next"! I did Hibiscus tea rinse an black tea rinse, no hair felt hard! I tried almond oil no, sunflower seed oil .no, apricot oil, no, grapeseed oil, no!!!! I went back to olive oil last week and made some Shea butter with cocoa butter and mango butter and olive oil to help it be creamy and have some oil to it. I cannot have my hair be dripping wet ,soaking wet to twist it up after what I put on it because it will then be "over moisturized and go dry the next day especially the ends! Philly crazy weather I can't wear it out because of frizzy and the "puffy" look. I have to wear it in a bun in the back of my head. I don't like it on the top of my head, it doesn't look right!!! It is taking a long time to look like like it grew or grew into some inches. Still looking for the ends stay moisturize!!!
@NowIAmNappy
@NowIAmNappy 3 года назад
Whats your cleansing and deep conditioning routine, when it comes to low porosity that matters a LOT! Also what brand of products are you using? Do you have fine strands or coarse strands? How do you know you have low porosity hair
@DWOOP
@DWOOP 3 года назад
@@NowIAmNappy I have been using Natral Rizado Olive oil and Hibiscus shampoo, Cream Brulee' melting moisturizer hair mask and the Leave moisturizer conditioner that is light I don't use both conditioners together though.I leave conditioners long on My hair because it makes it too soft and limp. My hair is low porosity because water sits on my hair like water droplets after shampoo and conditioning. Hard to get moisturizer inside the strands. My can't stay soak and wet when putting on oils and some shea butter blended with Mango butter and cocoa butter then it will be overly moisturize and do the opposite and be dry the next day especially the ends. Major problem.

I can relate to the idea that for my hair to be beautiful my curls had to be defined. It's only now in my second year of being natural that I'm starting to love my hair in its undefined afro state and ironically I get the most compliments on my hair when it's undefined!

Love this vid sis. I'm on a conscious journey of accepting and loving my shrinkage and frizz. But when I look up 'embracing frizz' or 'hair styles with frizz' or even 'frizz acceptance' I keep getting videos and articles on how to get rid of frizz. To me frizz indicates my hair has it's natural curl patterns because it's healthy, and I don't want to dislike a sign of health in my hair or body. Makes me sad it's universally so disliked pretty much. I end up emulating 80s hair styles as they seemed to embrace frizz more. And I notice when I do that, other people (of all races) start commenting how they want to do the same. Acceptance seems to be contagious, which is nice.

Michelle, I didn't see this video before. When you take down you hair, it looked like side-show-bob's hair. lol , i think you looked adorable. On a serious note, I didn't appreciate my hair for many years; eventhough, I had it natural for most part of my life. Because of my ungrateful attitude, a notion came into my mind... it is better than losing my hair. When I had that epifany, I started appreciating my hair- knowing my grandmother had alopecia. Now i not only appeciate my hair, but I love it. I appologized to Jesus for being ungrateful for not appreciating HIs creation. Sorry for the long message side-show-bob. lol
