One of the jokes at Leicester about him was '2/3 of the world's surface is covered by water... the rest is covered by Kante'. People used to see him running to training everyday and then running back during the season he won the league. Me and my mates all reckoned he was the best player in the club by a long distance, and were gutted that he was the one player we lost straight away. I remember watching Kante dominate on the right side of a midfield trio at Caen so stepping into this position can’t be (entirely) new for him. I don’t hear anyone bringing this up? If Chelsea were losing games, ok. It would be worth a conversation. For the most part, their performances have been night & day compared to last year though. A squad that was, more often than not, flat or lacking creativity and a sense of urgency from front to back just months ago has since become a vibrant, cohesive unit whose players are clearly enjoying their football. Manchester United don't go for players who aren't global superstars. Manchester United are looking for central midfielder since Scholes left, they bought Schneiderlein, Scwhienstieger, Fellaini, Herrara, Pogba, Matic, Fred. They still are sorting that position out, they also need a proper center-back, too. Moreover, Kante is doing a good job in that role. In Sarri's system, Jorginho is crucial, but he's a regista. He's good with his passing abilities, but he isn't a great defensive cover. That is why Sarri played Allan along with him in Napoli, and now he's got Kante. I don't think everyone gets Sarri's system of playing 4-3-3. He needs a regista in the middle, an attacking midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder on either side of the regista. Kante's energy and his dynamism allow him to be the box-to-box midfielder. It's that simple. The likes of Loftus-Cheek or Fabregas won't defend like Kante. Perhaps the only reason of doubt there is, when Chelsea plays against the bottom half of the table at home, Kante often finds himself in between the lines and looks a bit out of position. That's all.
