actually, this is the first time you feel GX is truly independent car and gave it a care it is need from design point . that is alone is enough . the previous generations is just Prado cruiser with VIP treatment.
Just about 60,000 miles. I am at 19.4 mpg average on 460 V8 compared to 16.1 on 2022 Tundra non hybrid twin turbo V6. Pretty sure there will be no fuel savings in new GX. @@JStryker7
Agreed. Too many electronic items on the new 550 GX! Also, why limit the EKDSS to only the GX 55” Trail edition? There is no standard opening sun roof across all new GX models.
I’ve got a 2008 GX 470 w/ 198,000 miles. Drives and runs great. I’ll be replacing it with something all electric with more safety and convenience features eventually but if the mileage wasn’t so bad (and I drive a lot for work) I’d keep it much longer.
Such a bummer that the Overtrail isnt available with a 3rd row. My wife said thats a dealbreaker for us since we have 4 kids and I dont know how easily I could install seats from the base model back there.
Great review, I am annoyed that Lexus/Toyota can’t seem to understand the customer base for RVers and install a diff unlock so we can flat tow like a Jeep GC.
The best true offroad Luxury SUV other than the G Wagon. Reliability and quality that Land Rover will never match. I will be buying the Nori green Overtrail and dump another 20 or 30 Gran (CAD) and make this thing the ultimate beast in the British Columbian Mountains.
Getting a used LX or GX for half or more the price of the new GX has strong arguments, especially when comparing the mpg not being that much better on the new one.
That goes for every generation of cars to every brand of cars though. There are people who are reluctant skeptics and people who are curiously interested enough to just get it
@@MrMikeDao Generally it takes 2-3 years for manufactures to get it right. Thats when id consider the new version. Tundra's are now sitting on lots asking to be sold. People take vehicles too seriously and buy too quickly which is why so many people change cars every 2-5 years
How did you get one of these outside of the Arizona press release? I’ve been waiting on the off-roading channels to get one of these overtrails to put it through the motions. I think you missed out a lot by not taking the most offroad ready trim on a good trail.
Great review. I am going to trade in me 4runner 2020 limited for a GX550 overtrail plus in the next few weeks. Do you know if you can change the color and font size of the heads up display?
like it its more utilitarian ,than the v8 3 row luxury GX460 ugly front end GX460 has a 109" wb new GX550 has 112' wb is really good , one could spec a base GX550 overtrail moon roof delete under $70k.
My wife and I want the GX550. However, I like to cry once, buy once (spend good money for a quality product). While I know Lexus is literally second to none for reliability and quality, I don’t see how the 550 can be more reliable simply due to more electronics and the turbos. I know they are not new to turbos. The original supras had them, etc. I know I can go buy a 2022/23 GX460 with the interior tech, and I can drive it 300k miles with no issues - which is what I do with vehicles. My 2008 sequoia has 219k miles and I just had a new bumper installed, new headlamps, new 9” touch screen, new door speakers, new all over paint job in Toyota cement gray, and it’s worth every penny to refurbish. However, I know Toyota/Lexus will stand behind their product with the GX550 so if there are any issues, they will fix it. If not, I can always get rid of it for a 460. 😂
I don't want all the fancy new electronics that will break destroying the key benefits of the Lexus GX - dependability and longevity. I don't want lane keep assist, a screen for the dashboard, adaptive cruise control, ... I'm sticking with the GX460. I think the boxy styling is just a fad, like the Honda Element and Scion xB. In a couple of years the new GX/Land Cruiser won't look as good as all the GXs and Land Cruisers of the last 30 years. What I find interesting is the government is forcing Toyota to move from larger naturally aspirated engines to less cylinders with turbochargers in order to save gas. But Toyota complies with the engine size reduction by significantly increasing the power instead of increasing the gas mileage.
Dealership gonna have to discount $15-20K on vehicles costing 70K or most ppl can't buy/afford it. All these dealers filing up they gotta do something if they wanna move metal like their use to
Lexus and Toyota are far from being perfect but they are the best in automobile world overall. All of our family’s Toyota and Lexus vehicles have driven past 300k miles and last beyond 20 years with just regular maintenance and few minor repairs.
True -the 550 does not offer enough upgrades over the 460, maybe getting anew 4Runner is a better option than a 550! Paddle shifters on an SUV!!! Are they kidding?????
I stopped watching when I heard that Lexus took their design cues for the hood from the Porsche 911. I’ve read a lot of reviews and somehow no one found a way to mention the 911 in a gx550 review 😂
So odd that Lexus people are worried about the new GX. yes the old was very reliable, but also sooo old. low power, crazy bad gas mileage, messed up rear barn door and really not very good looking. This new one is great looking better power and efficiency and more functional door. Just better in every way. If people believe in Lexus then it will be reliable
…..the gas mileage on the new 550 is only 1 mpg better than the V8 460- not a great improvement for a twin turbo V6. Also no wood trim and minimal leather on the 550!
@@edmundcharles5278it’s also much more capable engine wise. 0-60 1.2 seconds faster, 2500 lb more towing capacity and is much more off-road capable. I’d say overall those are good improvements.
I hated the 2023 GX460 and here are the reasons: 1) Very ugly front grill, I really hate the look of it. Why would you pay so much to drive such an ugly car. 2) Small windshield giving it claustrophobic feel 3) Many of them have KDSS problem which the dealer will not fix 4) rear door opening should have been changed at least 8 years ago 5) 13 mpg gas mileage 6) Useless 3rd row seats. They should have just removed it 7) it was neither a luxury SUV like Mercedes or BMW nor was it an off roader like Range Rover. The new GX550 is at least an off roader that can compete with Range Rover.
