Nostalgia is rooted in our society. It’s like a plague or is it more of a gift? That’s what I want to chat about today.
This is just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so if I got something wrong, or you have something to point out please do so in a constructive way. We’re here because we’re all passionate about this show. Be kind and willing to listen. You never know what you might learn!

Fair point about the remakes, but it is difficult to believe that the higher-ups at Disney were not thinking about cashing up on the nostalgia when the movies were pitched.

It’s always a hotly debated topic of choice. Nostalgia can sometime be good, other times bad so it definitely varies.

Nostalgia is a symptom of late stage capitalism. It happens as any empire/dominant system goes into decay: not nostalgia itself but the stagnation of culture. All these remakes, reboots and remasters in gaming, movies, tv and so on. Theres no more innovation or creativity amd the only time you see that will be from indie studios with a shoestring budget trying to break the mold. Problem is that indie studio succeeds, the market notices the profit pouring in, copies it and then the cycle continues

Interesting! Could it also be caused by consumerism? Due to technology, humans have become accustomed to getting what we want faster and faster. We become like Verruca Salt from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Always wanting more and more. The creative industry can keep up with the demand, resulting in remakes and reboots. Stifling the creative spark.

I get what you’re saying about wicked. I mean we are getting two parts to this new movie so I’m still optimistic that both movies will be really good but I definitely don’t want to get my expectations up too high right now. Part 1 is set to come out on the same day as gladiator 2 and people are saying it’ll be Barbenheimer all over again which I could easily see happening.

I understand why it's two parts Defying Gravity is a show-stopper, Stephen Schwartz is right nothing should follow that. Also, there is a five-year gap between Acts one and two. I'm more confused about the small changes they've made, but it is what it is.

It’s actually quite a coincidence that you brought up all live-action remakes from Disney. I’m not the biggest fan of them either but I have watched them all to see how they compare with the original animated movies. The little mermaid from last year wasn’t bad at all but didn’t need to be 2 and a half hours long when the original was only 80 minutes long. Snow White, lilo and stitch and Moana seem to be the last live-action remakes coming out from Disney as they’re cutting back on the amount of content they’re making too. Other ones like Bambi, Hercules and the hunchback of Notre dame have been recently cancelled too.

That's cool! I've watched bits and pieces of them all. I personally listen to the changes Alan Menken makes with the music scores.

@@CinemaOverAnalyzed very interesting then. I also forgot to mention the Mufasa movie which is a prequel to the 2019 live-action remake. Honestly looks pretty good overall but I’m still very optimistic overall.

Have you ever watched the spy kids movies at all? I love the first 3 but anything else afterwards I refuse to take seriously and really consider it more for a younger audience, which I guess is kind of the point. I even own the trilogy boxset oh DVD too.

It will get you to the heart of the city. However, It won't help you capture the king. At some point, the earth kingdom soldiers will think fighting it head-on is a lost cause and put all their efforts into defending the castle.

@@CinemaOverAnalyzedOkay I get your point but I think you are negletcting two things: first the army, or at least the general is incompetent, it is a real possubility that they would just have unsuccsesfully tried to stop it, second of all this is Azula we're talking about, she *always* has a plan. The Gaang alone managed to take down all the emperor's guards, Azula, Mai, Ty Lee and a drill full of soldiers could do it to. It's not the most usual or orthodox but it's not an impossible plot hole
