Is Off-Brand LEGO Really Bad?

In my projects, I ONLY use Lego products with the exception of rubber bands. You probably got that message back at the lunch table lol. I have been called a purist many times, and I take that as a compliment.

My boyfriend and I love off brand Lego (we call it bootlego). It's huge in East and Southeast Asia (where I'm from). Ngl I used to turn my nose up at them cos I was being snobby about the Lego brand but bootlego is great! Firstly, for me and my other Asians, there's a lot more representation - a lot of sets of Asian markets, buildings, and food. It's also true that there's more themes - I saw Peanuts sets and Doraemon. But the main thing is the price. I and many others cannot afford the big Lego sets (or even the smaller ones). Bootlego is so much cheaper - there's much more affordable options of floral bootlego that beat Lego's price. It's so much more affordable for lots of people and so it upsets me when some people just refuse to try or see bootlego as equal to Lego. Lego is just too expensive and it stops loads of people from enjoying this hobby.

I've built Lego sets since I was 5 years old. I took some "time off" from the hobby for many years, but I got back into it again much later, and I missed out on so many sets. I've also discovered alternate brands that offer features Lego does not have yet. I'm working on getting experience building Reobrix, Happy Build, Mould King, CADA, "T" Technology, Nifeliz, DOSCOR, and others. My Android cell phone gets overheated at the park when I go there to enjoy my R/C builds. Lego app-controlled sets require the phone. The other brands are using lithium batteries charged with a USB cable. Some are 500mAmp and others are 750mAmp. Most are using the PF style 2x2 brick connectors, while a few are using a clear connector RJ like a phone cord. The 2.4GHz range makes these kits a lot of fun, and some include lights. I have the kit in this video, and it can be motorized. When I build this, along with the CADA Dark Knight, I'm going to motorize them and add lights. Sometimes these alternate kits have problems with part quality. The parts do not connect and stay. I throw those parts out and replace them. Sometimes parts are missing, so I order replacements in bulk to be ready. Amazon and RC World on eBay can help with parts to motorize. RC World even has 2.4GHz equivalents by CADA to swap out the IR receiver and transmitter of Lego sets with IR, so you can get a better range without much change to the model. You can then use the kits in direct sunlight outside, which has problems otherwise. I enjoy driving my blue tow truck outside, but I have to walk it like a dog, making sure I am just a few feet away the whole time.

I don’t think it is, I have the Bugatti but in red from a different company. Besides a few faulty parts, it was pretty good quality.

I won't buy off brand Lego because I really like Lego as a brand, and I think that off brand Lego really just copies the real one. Of course if you want to buy off brand Lego, that's fine, it's a personal choice. But I will just buy the real Lego.

Its not fake Lego its an alternative Lego and btw its quality and price is better then legos!

As long as it's not lepin and in some cases mega blox then it should be fine as long as it's not directly a ripoff

I really support this kind of thing and i like them,i still cant afford them but i dont mind off brand lego.BUT there are companies that steal creators designs and sell them,i hope cada in this case doesnt do that but ive seen it happen

Sembo block is quite good. enlighten was good until 2018 until they rebrand and make weird things . Lele and Lepin is quite good too

As a official/unofficial lego collector Lego set is better but Unofficial set Minifigures is way better

i didn't watch the video yet, but I'll answer the question in the title. depends on what brand of fake lego you buy. some are really bad and don't deserve to exist on this earth, some are really unique and good

Off brand LEGO isn’t terrible but I will never buy it unless maybe it’s like this set and it’s very cheap but I wouldn’t mix it in with actual lego. Actually I’ve already bought it once when I was like 5 but whatever.

Competition is always good for the customer. In my opinion "fanboism" just stupid like only samsung, only, apple, amd, intel, nvidia, ps, xbox....Lego. Just by the one what support your needs. I would by a lower quality off brand set with a nice design, instead of buy nothing waiting for Lego to release an "official kit". So many good idea bled out on Ideas (RIP Soyuz) :( Maybe some other brand will pay for the good designs what was not enough for Lego's quality standards and business model.

CADA cars are MUCH better than Lego Technic cars. Some parts like axels can suck though. Just use a spare Lego one then.

I bought this set a built it about a month ago, really enjoyed it! Then I motorized and lit it with the additional set they make for that, which added to the enjoyment. All and all I recommend them, and I'm looking at buying another couple of sets from them #cadabricks

Even if people enjoy building non- lego it's bad as they are copying lego And I do not agree that non lego quality is good enough

These definitely aren’t bad, what’s cool is that you can interchange fake lego pieces with real ones because they fit together even though they’re different, which can be really useful

Great video my guy, you pointed some great facts about fake lego. Not all boot lego are bad. Being completely honest I've used fake lego for some customs as they have such unique parts in unique shapes.

Dear Ty, not deniable, that you are one of the best lego channels available. Love your videos and the way you put things very professional. Actually the only pure dedicated Lego channel for me so far that I like. You took a risk, leaving your basics, which might make you leaving some fanboys, but earning a much bigger community. Just a quick intro to understand about my comment. 48 years old German, growing up with Lego as my favorite toy. Living in Asia for 14 years. I started to build city sets for my 2 years old boy to play with, while he was building duplo. Side note, duplo is nonsense and much too expensive. Even for a 2 years old, there is no difference by size to put things together. I like Lego and respect it with high value, that's why I still buy it sometimes to pay back this idea, but finally I am not responsible and of course look for own advantage. As I am most focused on modulars, I give a quick example. Green Grocer, retired modular, origin packing with up to 1,400 USD. Lepin, 38 USD. I love it. Who cares about the studs with Lego?? 🤔 The quality issues are not less compared to recent lego headache. I think you do very smart by bringing in BRICKS and not just lego. But don't slaughter the box next time. 😉

a few questions how long did it take to build and where the instructions similar to regular lego set instructions?

off brand lego isn't lego u can buy good quality stuff from themes lego won't do like Brickmania yeah its expensive but its good quality

Lepin and stuff that directly copy Lego sets are bad but when it’s a company making original Lego-like products I think it is fine.

Is all “off/brand LEGO” created equal? Perhaps you got lucky in this case? It might be a good idea to try more models from this company to see if it holds up across the board. Technic plastic is different than System plastic, so this might have been a little bit like comparing apples to oranges?

I own 2 off brand Lego technic cars and I’m gonna say overall the quality is pretty good on both but one of them the drivetrain runs very poorly and rugged but overall they are great cars, an off brand company I would recommend is nifeliz or CaDa, or even toysly, all of those are on Amazon except CaDa, but I have heard good things about them.

I think they are very good because the reason they exist is for children from all over the world cand play with lego

Honestly, I don't care if the bricks are off brand, AS LONG AS THEY'RE MADE WITH QUALITY PLASTIC If they feel good to play with, then that's a quality product worth buying.
