Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I've been using Olive Pomace oil in my soaps for nearly 20 years and I've never regretted it. I don't sell anymore, but still make soaps with Pomace and it's still my favourite oil. I do use it in my infusions, and it gives great results. Thank you for waking up the scaremongering people who have nothing better to do with their lives. Keep on soaping. 😍 😍

I use both and love both. I was in a room the other day, and someone said that handmade soap makes your eyes sting, I was like WTH - I mean yeah it could if you left your eyes open while you shower, but if handmade soap made people's eyes sting, then we would all be out of a job. Some of the things these people tell newbies is unreal. I just SMH. Thank you for your informative videos, I greatly appreciate them!

I love the middle swirl and the way you made them. The colors are great as well. I’ve used olive pumice oil before and I never saw any difference from that and a light 100% olive oil. I just can’t get it very easy in my area.

refined olive oil is also produced from cold press don't forget that. Regular refined olive oil isn't the same as pomace olive oil but both are refined. Regular olive oil is refined virgin cold pressed oils that don't meet the quality standard for extra virgin when it comes to taste etc...

I made my first CP soap using pomace olive oil. I didn’t have a hand blender so I used a whisk. I was ready to whisk for hours just to get to a trace, but I was surprised that it only took me like 5 minutes before it got to thick trace. I guess the brand of the pomace olive oil matters as well when using pomace in soap making.

I love how these people just immediately know everything and can’t wait to spew the misinformation. Thanks for clarifying this again! I use olive oil pomace and have for years. My soaps are amazing and my customers love them!

I'm so glad you clarified that for everyone, myself included! Also, I don't go on very many message boards so totally missed those discussions. These days I barely have enough time to make soap, much less talk smack about crap I know nothing about.

Thanks for making this video. Olive oil pomace is absolutely perfect and I always use it. The soaps come out beautifully moisturizing and there's the slight yellowing effect on the batter can easily be fixed with a bit of TD.

Pomace olive oil is even used in food don't see the problem with using it in soap lmao Pomace even has the same fatty acid profile as extra virgin

I know this is old but there is so much bad info given on forums. But because of listening to you I know not to believe them. Like the whole 10 degree thing. Or coconut oil is drying over 20% is drying. I use 30% and get the comment frequently "omg I don't have to use lotion when I get out of the shower" regarding my soap. Some people tick me off.
@billmusall

OMG the "lower your coconut oil...it's too drying" comments drive me crazy! People like to pretend they know so much. It's ridiculous.

Living in a region that produces a LOT of olive oil, olive oil pomace is actually more expensive than food-grade virgin olive oil currently. I suspect this is because of all the hippies that are snatching it up for their $25 "dude weed lmao" soap lines thinking that it's something other than olive oil dregs

Ah, I use pomace in my main recipe, it works FINE. Lots of unsaponifiables. Ignore the negativity & misinfo xx I have made Castile, with 100% pomace, 100% basic olive oil & also a blend of the two, (coz I ran out of pom). To be honest, all soaps turned out gorgeous. All were slow to trace & all performed well once cured (6 months). The only difference I know of is 1g less lye to sap my 18 bar pomace recipe.

Lol, I'm commenting as I watch, (coz adhd), so apologies for lots of comments, but I laughed out loud re your comment on online forums. I have to say yep, some of those on Facebook are pretty bad, toxic even. Full of fear, nonsense, unsubstantiated claims & passive aggressive BS. I used to frequent them in the early years of soaping & I do occasionally drop in from time to time, but I usually end up leaving with some level of w-t-f-ery in my bonce. Best avoided tbh 😂

Oh, forgot to say, with olive pomace you do use ever so slightly less lye gram for gram to saponify pomace, when comparing with basic olive oil.

1. People that can't follow squirrels are boring. 2. That explains why my OOP soap is whiter after saponification than the exact same recipe using VOO. 3. People seem to be elitist and it's frustrating when spouting info. Ugh.

“I’m not normal”, humm well , to me you sound like any number of scientific academics I encountered in undergrad and later down the road during didactically in medicine. Your language is precise and measured. Your approach is to discuss in an open forum scientific evidence and your pursuit of soap and clay perfection. So if others don’t want to hang with you , then maybe it just wasn’t their cup of tea, ya’ know…

I love your videos! I Like your style, your humor and your soaping. 😊 Today my eyes saw this: Cheddar cheese, ketchup, mustard and mayo...But I never saw the burger ... 🤔😎 About olive oil.. I read that it's a lot of cheating going on. Cheap oil (don't remember what kind) and green color and some sents... Sold as olive oil .. Any thoughts on that? I buy my olive oil at the grocery store. The cheapest one I can find. I don't eat it ( I don't like the taste nor the smell..🙈) just making soap with it. 😊 It's great (if it's not too much in the recipe) in soap. Have a great day/evening/night/morning! 😊👋

Hey! So there are some cases, you can check the FDA site for reference, of importers mislabeling olive oil. It hasn’t happened for a few years to my knowledge after what appears to be a pretty big crackdown.
