Oshi no Ko for me is a great commentary on the industry its adapting while adding a healthy mix of edge from it's overarching plot. Now people have a reason to tune in week to week(Aqua's revenge play). Meanwhile, you're actually learning decent industry stuff too. It's great.
Well, it's premises is about the entertainment industry as a whole, not just the idols. This is just the start as different arcs focus on different aspects of the entertainment industry. And it is brutally honest, so be prepared for anything at anytime.
That's why I'm still following along and I noted some similarities with current or past events that isn't the Idol Genre Episode 1's Big Woah - Dimebag Darrel of Pantera (And by extension "Betrayed" by A7X which was a multi POV song about that event) Episode 4's Release - WGA's Strike
It’s about the entertainment industry. This is what the show is mainly gonna be about now. The Ai thing was shocking which is what gets everyone talking…. But that’s pretty much it. The series isn’t really about that as much as it’s about dissecting the showbiz world. You might have gone into this series the wrong way. It’s not really a hot/blooded shonen meant to develop hype. It’s honestly mostly a slice-of-life.
Heard so much about this show, not usually one to get caught up by hype but i decided to check it out. Was left very disappointed. Whether that was because of high expectations due to the community idk. But i just ended the show with a feeling of "That's it?". I was expecting like this one of a kind experience but It's your average isekai. Calling out the idol and entertainment industry was nice but it's a bit preachy. Kinda felt they should have gone on the side of "show don't tell". The ending was very predictable too. It's not the spectacular twist people said it was. I feel as though this anime was meant for people who don't watch anime. Hype never works out for anime. Or other mediums for that matter xD The animation and idol story were unique, but the anime overall is the very definition of "Mid"
I really feel like anime fans these days don’t know how to temper their expectations. Not every episode has to be a 10 out of 10. Does anyone besides me remember the days of world building in stories? You know, being introduced to characters and plot points. Sometimes, especially after a time skip, you need to be reintroduced to important characters to get a better feel for the world we, the reader/watcher, are vicariously living in. Episode 2-3-4 have all done a great job giving us insight to the state of the world Aqua and Ruby are living in post AI’s death. We learn that Kana has basically been used to for her name and not what she perceives is her talent value. Episode two exposed the way certain idols feel in their situations and how that can cause a silent rift behind scenes. All the while, Aqua is still moving forward in his plan to find his father.. the revenge aspect hasn’t been lost, it’s just not center stage.
Exactly. A majority of anime fans (or I guess most viewers of any kind of shows) nowadays don’t have patience anymore and expect instant gratification right of the bat (I don’t know if this is because of binge culture or something, but it has been a problem for a while). Things need time to grow and flow before we can truly judge a story by its merits. I’ve actually been really enjoying Oshi no Ko and it’s insight of the dark side of Japan’s entertainment world and I’m excited to see how the rest of the story unfolds. Whether or not Oshi no Ko wins or flops in the end, we will have to see as the rest of the show continues.
@@Isukiri544 I think this is more of a "new generation" kind of thing. Meanwhile, the old guard would happily sit for 300 episodes just to get the end goal
@@Isukiri544 perfect blue already did that 10 times better within 2 hours. Oshi no ko is a "product" made by otaku culture for the otaku culture. It wants to be deep but it ain't. It wants to criticize but it becomes the same thing it wants to criticize.
when it comes to anime like Oshi no Ko, i see it as a anime that focuses more on the mental state of the character and that state in return will add a lot mo0re wait to the story. with it only being 11 episodes long i can see something is about to come any episode now and then it will get built up until something massive will happen. we can see it in aqua being when he dose a huge iq moment it is reflected in the star in his eye, even the shading has some meaning. i cant wait to see what will happen Especially when inevitably comes too aqua meeting the true culprit.
Some people might argued it is failing because episode 2 onwards are boring to some viewers and that only Episode 1 is great. Is this because there's no death or shock value involved in next couple of episodes? Is it because episode 2-6 are not in 1 hour and 40 mins? Is it because they expected Aqua to be a generic revenge anime protagonist or shounen one who beats the shit out of everyone who looks like his father or to find their father some shit? That's what I observed from the critics of the show they just drop the "it's boring" opinion card, refuses to elaborate and leaves. Some also might have turned off by episode 1 where the 40 year old doctor who likes underaged idol reincarnated as his favorite idol's son and they see it as Mushoku Tensei vibes which the male protagonist Aqua never shown any pervy aspirations from Ai when he became her Son, plus I never see any pervy tendencies when he was still living as a doctor, he's just a full-blown idol fan. If you ask me it's not failing, it is slowing down which is important for any story to slowly progress to hype it's readers/viewers to the spicy parts, imagine if they rushed Oshi no Ko to the reveal the father arc, isn't it would be down bad like what happened to Promised Neverland Season 2 or any animes who suffered from being rushed to the supposed exciting parts and failed miserably? Plus critisms also claimed the next couple episodes is not living to the hype because Aqua the male protagonist is doing side quests of joining crappy reality dating shows instead of focusing finding his father like they didn't paid attention at all
This anime is the goat while yes its a bit exaggerated it really shows how how the entertainment society is behind the scenes. How dark and how twisted it can be. The amount of work you have to put it to wear the mask and keep it so you won't be scrutinised by the media for the sake of them making a headline.
It's actually not exaggerated well maybe the characters feelings but I myself was a "back up dancer" on a famous TV show in my country and we had this one time where my country was fully supporting pop groups and 3 groups went and performed on the TV station I was working at, and they were getting gossiped before they were even performing which as a Dancer myself hate.
Nah the recent ep 6 is an eye opener, it's just they need to do the world building first before the "hype" train comes again. People need a little more patience
I mean the manga is 116 chapters and the revenge plot is onky just now starting to take center stage. Its longer story not meant to be adapted in 12 episodes. It will take more seasons. Thats why any new good anime that come out i just read the manga cus i just cant wait a whole week for a 20 minute episode. If anime was 3 90 minute episodes each realising every 4 weeks then it would be a lot better. The 1st episode proved that.
For anyone who thinks the anime or manga exaggerates the Acting or Idol Industry it definitely does not, I work as a "Backup Dancer" on a specific famous tv show in my country we basically dance along the artists or group while they are performing live or taped on stage, there was this one time where my country was fully supporting pop groups and 3 groups went and performed on the TV station I was working at, and as the anime suggested they were getting gossiped before they were even performing, Camera mans talking before they were on stage, Floor Directors telling us to adjust to the group if they did something wrong since their "newbies" despite working si hard, and Directors actually destroying their interactions with fans, one time an artist actually gave an autograph live while the show was on and he got scolded by the director for taking too much time and how it wasted their show time. (To be specific shows have specific time per show they usually pay for their time or have a contract with the tv station they air on)
I personally think the manga is terribly paced. And if not for the first episode literally being the length of a movie I feel like a lot of people would've gotten bored in the first 2 episodes
I personally think Oshi no Ko will not be something everyone will continue watching as not all people care to the jp entertainment industry. However, Oshi no Ko also deals with the internet culture and how ppl(esp in twt, 4chan, etc.) react to modern day influencers as it is a social commentary to the state of the ent industry. As a manga fan, I do hope many will continue watching. Being an idol fan myself made me reading this manga more excited because it tackles things we often just forget in our community.
I am VERY excited for the next arc for the next season. I’ve read the manga and if they make one of the sequences in that part of the story all together, then it’s definitely going to be something. It has been my favorite arc so far and I hope it gets adapted well (which I’m pretty sure it will be with how things are going so far). After the first season, things are going to start kicking into gear and the drama is going to be off the charts. Can’t wait to see it! If it’s done right in the next arc, I know it’s going to blow up at the moment I’m thinking of.
The anime needs time to grow and to develop it's characters completely. The anime still a lot better than many series in this season with time it will become more and more better as the series goes on definitely people might not like some episodes ( chapters / arcs). It's Just my thought. We just need to wait.
The shift into a revenge plot completely broke the flow of the story. The reincarnation part of the story is completely irrelevant, it would literally change nothing if Ruby and Aquamarine weren't Reincarnations. Ruby is shoved to the edge of the story as well, her character is completely secondary. Honestly, i don't get why people like this show.
I highly doubt it’s failing this is something fresh and inspiring and informative on how japans work culture can be. More people should know this, hopefully they’ll be a change in the future for Japan where the workers aren’t working to death.
i think that by fresh everyone means the show is fresh not the information, i mean we all know theres shit going on behind the scenes and we dont see it but its not usual to get it presented to us this well i believe theres a similar theme on perfect blue? might be wrong on that not sure but point is its a fresh theme not necessarily fresh info.
As an Anime only viewer; episodes 2 & 3 are a necessary reset. Pacing does slow to manage our expectations, or demands ( Reddit comment) as we are spoon fed one episode a week. So I will go back to my deep breathing exercises assuming Oshi no Ko is going to leave us drooling. Just not yet.
Oshi no ko has stellar animation, production quality and music. As a manga reader, I’d say to not put too much faith and hope in seeing more of the overarching plot, as the story focuses more on the entertainment industry as a whole. But I have to say that the pace of the manga is solid, introduces characters adequately and gives them enough time to change/develop. The story sets up very well the storylines and the author is very meticulous in setting up clues and hints for future events (Some of the stuff in the episodes are already building up for something only relevant much much later). The story does not get lost. I believe it’s only a matter of knowing what to expect. The anime is good enough, you just have to enjoy the animation and the deep dive into the industry. There are a lot of highlights/good moments coming up which for sure will make the anime very good and relive a bit of the hype.
And it's funny, because saying this makes it seem like your waifu is the best part of the show (and maybe she is), but the part of the manga where Akane comes in is coincidentally also just one of the best parts of the manga.
If I remember correctly, even the first episode narration, called itself a prologue. It starts off one kind of show and then slams the door on it at the end. That means the first 3 episodes are really episodes 2-4. Basically episode 1 is everything that comes before the opening song. My thoughts, anyway.
To be honest I would had dropped it if every episode was as "Intense" as Episode 1 (I barely survived a Madoka Magica and Wonder Egg rewatch just before and I didn't need a 3rd series that went dark fast) As for my go to "Hype Action" shows this season - My Home Hero, Magical Destroyers or Hiroagru Sky Precure And my Chill shows are - Terrace Cafe and Insomniacs
If people tell me to choose between demon slayer or oshi no ko. Imma about to make so many people mad because I choose oshi no ko. It is a dam good show with just the first episode blowing my mind. It was one of the best prologues in the history of anime, but it tugged on my heart strings.
i feel like the first episode is a banger of a movie in itself, yet that wasn't the series, that single episode if like a standalone story itself, but leads into the rest of the series. give the plot some time as the best plots require some build up sometimes
I agree, i'm a bit sad it didn't continue to maintain the quality of ep.1 but we should probably acknowledge that Ep.1 was indeed a masterpiece so I get slowing down and just trying to build the characters at a bit of slower pace compared to the initial outing. I enjoy the commentary on the industry but if by the end of S1 i'm not relatively interested in seeing the characters continue to progress / develop, then i'll drop it and just remember it for it's amazing start because I don't think that can be taken away from the show.
it is still an Aoty contender 2023 after checking what anime have come out its still relevant, the contenders are: Naruto remake (will come in fall 2023), Mushoku Tensei s2 (will come in Summer 2023), Monogatari (2 seasons this year 1 is out and the other one in the summer), Demon slayer s4, hells paradise, mashle, vingland saga, tokyo revengers s2, record of ragnarok s2, dr stone, bungouku stray dogs s4 and of course oshi no ko (i added some anime that havent been released but my guesses are that they will be in the debate at the end of the year) if the quality remains in this level and increases it might be the anime of the year
Okay so ep 1 is an absolute 10 so far the following has not been nearly the same however I believe its going slow to let them grow up and let that rage for revenge for Aqua and the praise and able to live the childhood life for Ruby. I feel the next ep or 2 we will start seeing the show get dark and see the light from Ruby and the darkness from Aqua. If that happens the hype has been worth it but we just need to bide our time to let the story evolve. That 1st ep was so great for the reason it was 3 ep in one in that they started and ended Ai's character building and setting the tone while it also restarted Ruby and Aqua's lives and allowed them to build as the main characters and then closing set the scene for the revenge and search for their father. If this first ep did not do this and was split to 3 episodes the entire season would have been to slow and drawn out and lost many of its viewers before they found the revenge plot.
Episode 2-5 were good, but ep6 hit almost as hard as episode 1. Somehow. But copium is still copium. So you know, I'm on enough copium to kill multiple herds of elephants.
It is pretty good but i think it is wrong to give 10 star review to shows seasons that aren't finished, i see the fma war and it scares, those fma fans are kinda obsessive but a show with 3 episodes should not be able to pass a story with 64 episodes that talks about deep stuff, even the manga isn't finished yet, endings can change to perception a show very quickly
Just reminders master pieces like gurren lagen had fairly slow episodes until around the Middle same for kill la kill and code geass was mostly the school stuff so the fact it slow down it still better than average
Me binge-watching it from episodes 1 to 7 as an anime-only watcher, I can only say... 10/10. I did get the feeling of the slow pace in episodes 2 and 3, but dang it picks up again later on.
This one aging pretty damn bad with each new episode the hype is exploding for sure and getting to levels of recognition I didn't imagine it would be but reading the manga beforehand I knew it would special in some way lul
I was reading through the Manga for two months before the anime was released, I found out about the anime the day it released. I follow numerous yt anime channels and had no idea
I think what made the second (and consequtive) episode work is that if you cut out any twenty minute segment from that first episode sans the climax you still feel like you're watching the same show as that. I don't have a clue as to what comes next but I feel like that first episode will set the precedent and standard for the quality of arcs as a whole but not really for individual episodes.
There is a story that has to be told here. Let it do it's thing. It is still awesome. I have not read the manga, and I will AFTER this story has run its time. Let it run.
Im not going to argue about the recent episodes not living up to peoples expectations because to each their own but its really ritch that the chainsaw man fan guy is saying that aka cant wright serious sceans well im going to need him to go back and watch like episode 12 of season 1, 11 of season 2 and the second half of the kaguya movie and say that agien
Oshi no ko will be better again by the end of the season when it can be binged by viewers, atm the 20 min a week pacing will feel too slow compared to all the content in the 80 min pilot
@@414Anime thanks! I honestly just thought of it like Arcane and how that show was always "1 climax every 3 episodes" and released 3 eps at a time, and was like "man if Arcane was released 1 ep a week it woulda been borring af!"
Honestly after the new episode came out (episode 4) I think it worked out really well because it got me hooked into it because I didn't know how quickly it went by. Also yes episode 3 was an absolute embarrassment-
Interesting, I really don't watch or watched "Ocean Oka " but I am really sorry that the mother who was killed and left 2 twins alone in the world, it's really heart broking, 😭🥺 so I feel why Aqua wanted revenge...anyway great work man keep it up wit all videos that uou do!
Lets be honest. All the hype for the show came from its animation on the first episode. The episodes arent even entertaining now. Its feels like a chore to even keep up with the storyline
The "Hype" was bc there was a twist of unexpected drama added. However, the show made it clear what the main vehicle its narrarive would be riding on was in Episode 1(acting/idols). It's a viewers burden to understand what they're watching or risk complaining in the void.
Spoiler has manga reader: if you’re expecting the story to turn into murder spree thinks again, the story for the most part is ruby and Aqua characters and psychological exploration of the events of their mother deaths, now wouldn’t say that there aren’t moments that rivals ai death (biggest one is the cancellation mini arc that almost caused character to kill herself only survived by Aqua stopping her in last minute)
I personally did not read the manga, and only watched all of the released episodes of the anime. Let me tell you why I feel like it has become very boring: First of all, the first two episodes are very promising for its art style, the characters and also the plot. The viewer is being introduced towards the down-sides of the entertainment industry and what HOOKS the reader to keep watching is the fact that Aqua wants to find the culprit of Ai. Personally, this made me raise my expectation, and I thought that Aqua will literally start uncovering the truth of Ai while working in the entertainmnet industry. BUT: what is being shown in the anime is a very very slow paced plot development that is far away from the actual goal of the main character which makes it less exciting to watch as there is barely any thrill, or any plot twists at all. Yes, we got the scene where Akane started to act like Ai, but even that didn't leave a huge impression on Aqua.... Moreover, his character is bland, emotionless. Don't understand me wrong, this anime with its style had great potential, but the main point of the storyline is being ignored completely, and I believe that one could've made the anime (or rather the story itself) much more thrilling by shortening the parts of the side characters and still maintaining the criticism towards the entertainment industry.
It’s overrated and fails to hold your attention the more you watch or read. It being brutally honest has no merit when it’s not engaging or entertaining. Literally the best episode was the first one and it never gets better than that
A lot of the things you criticize the anime for in the second and third episode, like the slower pace, and the jokes you complain about, are things that came directly 1:1 from the manga, so it doesn't really make sense when you say things like at 3:50 when you say that the 20-minute regular episodes are the reason behind the slow pace of the plot after the premier. Even if they continued making 90-minutes episodes, instead of the regular 20-minutes ones, they wouldn't be as bombastic as the first episode, because the rest of the manga goes at a completely different pace than the prologue.
I am interested in Aqua's revenge but I'm not entirely convinced that he wants revenge. From my understanding the idea is that Aqua had nothing to live for after Ai died so he's living for revenge but why does he have nothing to live for? What was Aqua living for as a doctor before he died?
I think it's important to remember that Aqua is not just a grown man in a kid's body. As the manga develops, it sort of makes it more clear that just because he has memories of a previous life, that doesn't mean he is mentally mature. For starters, it's mentioned at one point that Aqua has forgotten much of his early childhood, so therefore young Aqua's brain was undeveloped like anyone else's. The years between early childhood and adulthood are vital to development of personality and maturity, and that initial trauma had more impact than it might have on another child because Aqua has memories of being an adult doctor. As a result, he develops a complex of protecting his sister and "taking responsibility" for avenging Ai's death on his father.
Unfortunately, you're quite off the mark with this one. Sure, the episode one pilot aka the prologue was a grand spectacle that got everyone in the anime-only side of things excited about the series, but that is not where most of the hype from the people who have read the manga is coming from. The rest of series, while not going at as fast of a pace as the prologue, or having as many bombastic twists, continues to be fantastic, and definitely deserving of whatever hype it has been given by people who know what's coming. If you ask any manga reader which chapter of the series has their favorite moment in it, you may get a few people who say it's chapter 10 (which is where the premier episode ends), but I'm sure you will have many people say that a different moment in the series is their favorite, and you probably will get a variety of answers. For me, personally, I can think of at least 3 moments off the top of my head that I enjoyed more than the big twist of the prologue, and that managed to make me cry where the twist did not.
Also, the fact that the production team managed to make the first episode (and, also, the fifth episode I just watched) so much better than the same part of the manga lets me and the other manga readers have great expectations for what's to come. Coming into the season, I already knew that Oshi no Ko was going to be one of the best shows of the season, and a must-watch, but I did not expect the first episode to be nearly as good of an adaptation as it was, and that sent the hype to the stratosphere. If they can stick the landing on the emotional moments that are to come, the hype will have been greatly deserved. (though, episode 4 was a slight let-down for me in comparison to that same part of the manga, but it's not that big of a deal, since it wasn't that important in the grand scheme of things, and the reason it felt off was mostly just because of nit-picky things I noticed that came from adapting the script to anime form.)
Honestly, I just finished ep 1 and I really didn't like It. An eighty minute episode would be a nightmare to pace, so they didn't, and that made it feel like 5-6 loosely connected 15 minute stories.
Those redditers clearly haven't read the end of Kaguya-Sama. Aka Akasaka is the GOAT. Now excuse me. I must try not to choke as I provide him some much needed relief. God tier writing is very stressful you know.
You know that the show is overhyped when the revenge in *Redo of Healer* makes more sense than the revenge in Oshi no Ko. Because: 1. the killed is dead (this is what they told us with the news paper). 2. He (Aqua) basically now wants to kill a person that doxed his idol...basically. 3. Let's not forget that a *DOCTOR* that gets reincarnated wants to make from this 2nd life purpose...to *KILL* a doxxer (i don't know if Doxxer is an english word)....So a *Doctor* wants to become a *murderer* ! (Edgy cringe) EDIT: But...yeah...the first episode was good...for the first 4 minutes (untill that girl died...the most emotional moment of the episode...when she called the doctor a "meanie"...they both knew that she would reach 16yo...that was emotional). Sorry for my english
not at all overhyped for me. may as well say Life: overhyped or failing to live up to your own expectations. this is a solid series. doesn't have to have the gottcha moments every episode. need to build up the suspense
People just want a big thing happening every episode as if it's a "monster of the week" or shonen battle anime where every episode has a big fight. Everything so far has been setup and since people set their expectations high, they got disappointed. This is why I don't like "hype poison". It usually ruins a perfectly good show for some as they come in from these stellar reviews and just one episode not being quite what they expect drop it instantly
I am currently watching it in a group of 3. So far two of us do not like it. I personally called out all the dumb actions the characters made and also called out their deaths before they happened. My other friend who did not like it pointed out unreasonable things or actions that should have been done first like talking to the sister about her past the moment they both figured out they can talk as infants and also why the brother is being a hater and didn't hire the sister for the agency they already work for (for safety reasons and keeping an easy eye on her). The brother was willing to risk his sister working for a bad agency and he was willing to stop her dreams of becoming an idol. My third friend likes the theme of the show and all three of us looks forward to the revenge plot. Overall I personally think it's overrated and am salty it beat FMAB in ratings since the story has easily noticeable issues with the writing so you can consistently tell what's going to happen later like in my case.
I'm on a lonely ship with this anime on how I feel that this anime is incredibly boring. I watched 5 episodes to give it a fair shot and its just not for me. I liked the first episode, but after that the story and the pace was so slow and it was downhill for me. I think that I should read the Manga because it might be better, Idk its just not interesting to me, but if ppl love it then thats great.
For me, yes, it has failed. I find the reincarnation pointless, I think the story would have worked much better with a realistic premise, there was no need to go that way. Add the starry eyes and I really struggle to take it seriously. However, much more importantly, I absolutely cannot stand the edgelord, hyper-protective brother, every time he's on screen I want to gauge my eyes out cause of how cringe he is. Overall the characters feel shallow and from what I heard the story doesn't really get better. Even according to many manga readers I talked to, the hype is due to the big twist at the beginning. Far from the best of the season for me, let alone AotY.
How can it have "failed" to live up to the hype when it hasn't even gotten to the parts that the manga readers are hyped about, and it already surpassed expectations in that first episode? I guess you can say that episodes 2 and 3 "failed" to live up to the hype of the anime-only watchers who got hyped after episode one, but would be like calling Attack on Titan a failure when it only had 2 episodes released. Also, you personally not liking the (admittedly weird) premise of the story doesn't mean that the show has "failed to live up to the hype". You haven't even seen the parts that people are hyped for, yet.
