I didn't talk in detail about too much and also missed things such as rates going from 0.5x to 2.0x. This was intentional, as I wanted it to be a quick video showing how I felt about the game. Rates besides 0.75 and 1.5 do not give pp currently, so time will tell how that'll work. Thanks for watching ❤
In the skin editor, you have to use Anchor so that it references it to specific spot on the screen, and Origin, where you can choose which part of the skin png for the anchor to latch on to
the UI part is so true with map names being hard to read etc, they just made it look fancy for no reason even though it looks perfectly fine in stable with almost every popular skin
@@northsign still the dumbest shit ive heard, quit meatriding peppy and use your brain for once making something worse just for the sake of changing it is stupid. there's thousands of ways to change it while keeping it readable, they pointlessly made it flashy
like you said most stuff people can get used to and all these things will probably eventually get fixed but mania scoring definitely has to be changed. I've read dev discord where they were discussing something related to mania scoring with actual players and I have no idea why peppy and smoogipoo are so stubborn while none of them even play this gamemode and they decide on such important things. someone even wrote a huge post on github asking to change a bunch of things in lazer mania and why it's needed but I don't think it led anywhere last time I checked (2 months ago) I loved that one time when during the discussion peppy said "we're not looking to make knee-jerk changes based on individual's preferences here but restore sanity so we can move forward" while github and dev discord exist so players can share their opinions and they specifically opened the thread so players can talk but he just gives us shit for telling him it shouldn't be how he thinks it should be ("i highly doubt mania people are going to be okay with *anything* changing *ever*") keep in mind I'm probably very biased here because I've been playing this game for over a decade and it still fails to meet reasonable expectations. I don't like this attitude of almost whatever thing you bring up about stable peppy gonna excuse it with lazer as a reason not to do anything in stable. just imagine this game is over 15 years old and it still doesn't have rate mods not to mention more niche stuff like fln or inverse. however I will definitely give credit to smoogipoo for nerfing ln hp in mania because on some maps it was really bad whatever the current situation is I really hope devs will come to their senses and make scoring normal and "restore sanity" instead of dumping 10+ years of all mania scores in the trash if you wanna know about the current situation more then feel free to read this post I mentioned above ( github.com/ppy/osu/discussions/25810#discussioncomment-7897894 ) and also join osu dev discord where most of the discussions happen and you can participate too!
Idk why classic scores get a 0.96x multi. its weird for me to be able to snipe full SS (all 320's) with an acc as low as 98.83. I feel bad whenever that happens
SV is completely broken, if you try a map like "possession" in stable it teleports / you only see one set of notes at a time. Lazer you see them all, making teleport maps completely broken / harder to read.
Like my friend said, it feels like lazer for mania is just making everything look fancy but the gameplay is ass, while osu!standard is more favorited and taken care of. It really does feel like us mania players dont get love at times.
Common mania skinning issues in osu!lazer I (and probably many of you) have: - Many skin elements are put out of place when importing (mentioned) - Skin elements don't look centered in preview vs editor - some editor elements might have to overlap to look how they did in stable, depending on your skin - Judgements are unmovable (mentioned) - Any combo counter used in stable is forced into left alignment instead of central, causing the counter to be off-center most of the time Send to peppy for peppy points and credit me (recommended)
- Fix by changing alignment and anchor in right click menu - Fix by changing alignment and anchor in right click menu - Unfortunately - Fix by changing alignment and anchor in right click menu As a side note in mania it's probably better to place elements on playfield layer than hud layer, so elements will stay in place according to playfield rather than screen.
@@GTD_GameTilDead Ive made a few skins in my time of playing and the only reason I dont play on Lazer is simply just because of the judgement being fixed💀
Something that's always turned me off Lazer is actually how it opens. I've never been a fan of how "loud" it is visually and sonically, compared to how light and poppy the Stable version is. The best way I can describe it is Lazer feels like "Welcome to osu!", while Stable feels like "Welcome home."
Lazer actually has alternate intro sequences, including the old Welcome intro, it can be changed in the settings, so you dont have to deal with the triangles intro if you dont want to!
BUT since in the future every stable score will be deleted... Its advisable to switch to lazer so that you start making scores there so that you have at least some score when the stable scores get deleted-
i dont know why, but lazer feels just easier to me than stable in most modes, idk if its because lazer just has better pc performance for me or something
Some people like the changes, and that's good! A good few people also have better performance in lazer than in stable, but it seems like a coin toss lol
Putting aside the features that requires more hardware in comparison to the Stable Osu, I never felt any notable difference by playing both, both versions are good to me, but i prefer the Lazer because is much more pratical (even if, idk why, the beatmaps list in Lazer doesn't have every beatmap avaliable in the site) I play Lazer in a Notebook with a i3 6006u (or something like that), Intel HD 520 and the game run nice, Stable Osu I play with a Celeron N4120 and it's very playable (both ≈ 60 fps).
as a tatsujin play I feel like lazer taiko feel 10x better then stable taiko (mainly due to the notelock revamp and I can mash on drumrolls without being punished)
For some reason lazer changes the way my skin looks completely and I cannot play with it for the life of me. I never would have thought that I would be one of those people but lazer is just a bit too much for the eyes in my opinion and I prefer the simple design of osu!stable
@@Eliminate294 what i mean is that the game just throws u in, no tutorial on how any buttons work, how to enter a map, how to change skins, or anything like that
i think its mostly perference and yea that classic mod kinda sucks lmao also if you play etterna and want to switch to mania i recomend lazer since it has score v2
i actually made an entire document outlining all my issues with lazer, and i even included the reason why it is easy to combo in lazer. the new logo sucks ass tho, and imo it is up for debate (still holding on to my opinion since peppy told us to do so, i cannot stand it)
They need to completely remove the new skinning system. Or allow us to use the old one OR the new one. Version 2.7 is the last version for skin.ini. Why not make version 2.8 the lazer version uneditable but having 2.7 and bellow as options for people who prefer the old skinning system
@CommandoBlack123 that is not gonna happen, peppy EXPLICITLY stated that legacy skins will no longer work with lazer. With that information, we got 2 options - either adapt our skins or suck it up and play with the now broken legacy skins in there
2:54 Im actually working on a skin ( for mania only ) that is based off of yours, i still have a few areas of it to finish but its very usable in the state its in right now. you have to configure the assets in a very specific way so that they are "anchored" to the right corner or edge of the screen witch can be un-intuitive at times but i think its a pretty good solution.
About the map difficulties not grouping together, the reason why that is, is because you have everything sorted by difficulty which separates all the difficulties for each song, if you sort it by any other means they will group. The issues you had with the skin seem to be dependent on the skin itself since all the skins I use seem to be pretty much the same as stable. Also for the built in skin editor, to properly get the skin elements where you want takes a bit of getting used to but that red line you see attached to the element shows what part of the screen the element will move with so sometimes it seems like you might put it in the center of the screen but then it moves to right because it's attached to the right side of the screen you can change it by right clicking the element itself. For my gameplay I moved all information away from the actually gameplay in the center to the sides or corners, i do have one video posted on my channel of one of my scores if you want to see an example of how i set up the gameplay for myself. Although personally I do wish the built in skin editor was a bit more intuitive or at least more easily maneuverable since it took me a bit of trial and error to get used to but I've been playing lazer for over a year and I'm pretty much used to it. I also don't really get those performance issues that you had while importing things but it could also be that i didn't have much to import since it seemed to be relatively quick for me. I do agree about the local offset thing since my overall offset i have is -80ms so i think they should probably extend it to 100 at least. For the scores I can't really say much since while I was playing stable I wasn't really setting high scores compared to how I am now in lazer, however I do kind of agree that they could maybe change parts of it but since the website now has a lazer mode to it to see the lazer scores along with stable scores I don't think they will do much more to change the scoring. Overall I would say that currently to get into lazer takes some getting used to and if you played any significant amount of time on stable that would be harder to achieve compared to me since I only really played on stable for about a year and half before moving to lazer and for a decent chunk of that I was in military training so I didn't really build up strong habits specifically for stable, which probably made the switch easier for me.
Sorting by difficulty should 100% group maps together, trying to sort map packs by difficulty shouldn't just show you the map pack name; you should be able to see each difficulty without having to click on each one. osu.ppy.sh/ss/19049508/89fd - Same mapset as 1:29 Skinning is a massive issue at the moment and does not just affect me, read the other comments and seek others' opinions. I understand the red line for skinning, but how would I make it relative to the playfield as opposed to a "section" of the screen? I don't believe you can do this unless I have missed something, so please let me know! I would suggest making it an absolute position, where you can use the sections as a sort of grid to place your elements. Issues arise from importing when you have loads of maps (I have 90k+), which was directly stated in the video 0:55 Thanks for your comment, but please look around and don't assume that just because it's a video with only me talking, that it doesn't affect others. In addition to this, these are PROBLEMS which need to be addressed, even if experienced by a smaller portion of the community. A lot of the topics discussed in the video impacts a large chunk of the playerbase, and by simply reading other comments you can easily spot this.
@Eliminate294 For the difficulty grouping I completely agree that it should be grouped but since it was never grouped for me even in stable I'm not sure if they're going to change that but it could be the way I set up the sorting in stable that didn't allow it to group. The clicking for each difficulty is kind of annoying to the point where I don't sort by difficulty anymore so I do think they should change that. Also I do know that skinning is a pretty big issue at the moment that's why I stated that it probably depends on the skin currently, until they fix it universally for all skins, since some skins seem to work well at least the ones that I use. For the red line, that is one of my gripes about it too that I don't think there's an absolute positioning setting for the skin elements so I pretty much had to get used to the weird way it moved. Also sorry if it seemed like I was assuming too much without looking around, I didn't mean to come off like that, I do know about the issues presented and experienced by a lot people playing lazer especially people switching over from stable. I was just stating that there are possible ways around some of the things if it fits some people's preferences but I wouldn't want to force people to do things they're uncomfortable with especially if the issues presented is something that the developers should address and fix for the benefit of their fanbase including quality of life stuff. I still consider lazer to be in its early stages though and it will probably go through plenty of updates and fixes as time goes on, I'm just personally used to lazer by now so some things don't bother me as much but I do prefer them to keep working on it rather than sit on how it is currently.
@@Eliminate294 I can't speak on most of this but I'm fairly certain the sorting change was because that's the standard way a song select would work for any other rhythm game, grouped by song, but maybe they could benefit from changing the names of the sorting methods around because idk how they sort by difficulty if they're grouped together
I think for now everyone thinks Lazer is confusing but people will get used to it. I also believe that the developers are working hard on fixing the issues.
I'm not sure about mania. But at least for standard, scores cannot simply be recalculated using lazer's scoring due to the addition of sliderhead accuracy. So instead the took a vote and decided on an 0.96x multiplier, which is likely here to stay.
i start play osu at jan 2023, and i download the lazer one (not knowing there are actually 2 kind of osu), time passed and when i realize there are osu stable that most people used (and lazer didnt give pp that time), i try the stable one, and because i already used to lazer ui and stuff, i cant and find it uncomfortable when playing stable (especially the skin, damn i already used to lazer default which is argon skin). That said, now i only play lazer
For me it's opposite, I can't play stable, it's ugly, uncomfortable, and it has more issues than laser on linux (I'm using NixOS), and also I started with laser
I recently got back into osu!mania, and got the lazer version because it was more smooth for me, but what I don't like is about the skins being broken for mania, especially when you want to chart something. Like you said, the ends of the long notes are different, and for me it's annoying since it's difficult to know when to release, which makes me get a great 90% of the times unless there's a normal note close by lined up with an end of a slider. Also, SS ranks are basically impossible for me now, since lazer has the ScoreV2 system and there's no option to change to classic scoring compared to the regular osu! mode in lazer. And since I mentioned charting, one good thing, you have more control on doing slowdowns and changing bpm mid song, but what I don't like is having to change to a different skin so I can hear the hit sounds, not to mention that you can currently just change the image but can't add a video or do any sort of storyboard.
I really like lazer but my biggest let down is that im in the skin folder allot and now they basically removed it, its a pain to edit curtain parts of the skin in lazer.
The only thing I dislike about lazer is losing accuracy from perfects. Just annoying to see not getting even a 99% when you would've otherwise on stable.
When editing your skin, right click the desired element and you can change where it'll be connected to, one of the corners or maybe the screen's center, this is probably (or definitely) why the skin elements are in the wrong spot.
2:27 You moved skin elements slightly wrong, you forgot about snapping, so your health bar snapped to right side of the screen. What does it means? It means that when you enter a map, it would place your health bar at the same position relative to right side of the screen.
I did not see an option to "snap" to the playfield. I have no clue why they would intentionally not make the skin editor a 1:1 scale of the actual gameplay.
@@Eliminate294 there is, you're given 3 layers in the "Current working layer" list to edit: HUD, HUD (mode only), Playfield (mode only); the last one is the one you should choose to snap your HP bar to the playfield
@@tihung27 The point I'm making is why have this fancy graphical interface showing you where your elements appear, when it doesn't actually appear where you place it? This isn't just a "my opinion" kind of thing, it is, in general, a really stupid concept and should be changed to match where the element is placed in the skin EDITOR.
Yes I read that, but having lazer default to being downloaded on C: would mean having to migrate the lazer client first. This wasn't the point I was making in the video though, I was stating that if you CHOOSE to import your songs, then it causes immense performance issues.
@@Eliminate294 it makes more sense to not group. how would you sort map groups by difficulty if there are maps with different star ratings in each map group? one of the goals of lazer is to eliminate stupid legacy decisions made on stable a decade ago (eg notelock on standard)
its the same mapset... i am sorting by difficulty, not grouping - if i sorted by title, then it shouldnt group the mapset together based on the diff names by your logic lol
Fortunately, we don't need rate changers anymore in Lazer, adjustable DT + difficulty adjustment mods do all the job, you don't need extra apps and you don't end up with hundreds of new difficulties, which you most likely won't touch again on the majority of your maps. The mod page also allows to save mod presets, which are searchable. The new DT mod made me switch immediately and permanently, so I can play any map in a comfortable BPM range outside of the forced 1.5x rate. No more offset issues
For the UI thing you gotta make sure to uncheck show converted maps in top right, and make sure you sort by anything BUT difficulty as in thats why its cluttered. Mania and even standard do not like difficulty grouping.
@@Eliminate294 I actually like how the new look, it's just really shit with difficulty sorting, which I tend to hate mania sorting in stable on difficulty aswell, since it doesent filter out standard maps. That's why I feel it is dramatically better now for the most part, but I agree that it is cluttered for diff sort.
I have already switched to lazer. For playing the default modes like mania and standard stable is a bit better but the custom rulesets are so fun to try out as a casual player in lazer.
wow i have never heard about the classic mode score downgrade, that's really ridiculous lol checking osu website the scores seem to be already recalibrated with perf losing acc anyways, so i have no idea why they would add an additional score multiplier
the most annoying thing for me that i never liked about lazer is that... WHERE IS UPSCROLL? I am an upscroll player and this one just killed me, because my downscroll skills are nowhere near as upscroll and I never wanna switch my playstyle just for a better performance game
@@Eliminate294 my skin is by default is on upscroll, but it still shows downscroll in lazer. I tried to find anything in skin editor but i couldnt do anything about it, which is sad
