Is Pentecost An Experience For Today? - S01E40

The modern charismatic, Pentecostal church is obsessed with attempting to reproduce the Day of Pentecost. Funnily enough, it has nothing to do with the Jewish holiday, neither is it about the supernatural ability to speak in foreign languages. No. It is all about converts speaking in “tongues”, also known as gibberish. This episode is meant to solidify the UPC’s infatuation with this “experience”, but mostly to encourage any listening, Christian believer that you can hop right off that hamster wheel. When you receive the Holy Spirit, at the time of belief on and trust in Jesus Christ, you are filled to the tippy-top with the Spirit of God and that makes us complete in Him!
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. -Acts 2:21 ESV

And please don’t stop guys. I’ve been binge watching and I’m all out of episodes so I keep looking forward to a new one! I’ve been trying to share your episodes with my wife but she’s not quite ready to make the departure even she sees inconsistencies.

I just wanted to say thank you! I found you guys at the perfect time in my life, and your videos have really helped me in my own spiritual journey. I too spent 30+ years in the UPCI organization. I always believed what I believed because I was told from an early age that it was the truth and only way. Something in my heart told me to seek my own salvation and my eyes have really opened. God is good!

We are humbled and so thankful to be a part of your journey. 30 years plus is a long time, and we know exactly what you are being confronted with. It's so encouraging to see and hear of people using their God-given critical thinking and studying their way to having their eyes opened and to freedom! Praise God. Praying for your journey! God bless.

It's interesting to me to see how the "worship" of tongues is more important than the gospel itself in a way. I grew up catholic and it reminds me of the idolatry of Mary . Or there are other denominations that hold a specific bible translation so high it has become idolatry, to the point that if you were not saved through that kjv then you are not saved at all. Scripture has warned about false prophets and wolves in sheep's clothing. Also 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 (ESV) 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. I keep saying the war is in the church and many don't even know it. Tha ks for another episode, I'm still praying for you guys!

You are so right. It's definitely become the most important thing. Speaking in tongues. And great comparison to the Catholics and Mother Mary. Idol worship. Thank you Matthew for sharing and reminding. False doctrine and prophets are the reason we are doing exposure work. And thank you so much for the prayers.

This was one of my most favorite episodes so far. It’s clear cut scripture and real truth. Also Justin made me laugh a few times when he was like “ohhhh they put fire in the video”!! And a couple other funny things. 😝Also it made me sad that the Memorial Day Picnic was enforced and mandatory because coming from a military family that’s a day of honor and respect for what they did for our country and families not to go to a picnic for gluttony. The fruit of the spirit is so much MORE than speaking in tongues. This is great.

Love it guys. I also just wanna bounce something off of you. I’m not totally convinced that they were in the upper room and it was 120 that were speaking in tongues. Read chapter 2 of acts carefully: it says house, it says Peter stood with the apostles and some other details too. There’s no mention of the 120. And I find it hard to believe that you could fit 120 in a house. And also Jesus instructed the apostles that they would receive power and they laid the foundations. Just something I started realizing. Again I’ve been in this for 19 years and never looked into it deeper. Just brianwashed.

There were only 4 episodes of the real gift of tongues in the history of Christianity. They are recorded in Acts 2 8 10 and 19. Never at Corinth...NEVER! That church was UPCI.

Perhaps you discussed it in another video, but when you say that you both "spoke in tongues"/gibberish while in the UPC, to what do you attribute it? Was it something that just came over you? Is it something you did because of the pressure of that culture, while conscious that you were forcing it? Or did you convince yourself that it was genuine? Or did you just see it and begin mimicking it at such a young age that you may not even remember?

Speaking from personal experience, I fully believe tongues is for today. Sorry, no, it wasn't for the benefit of the people from other countries in Jerusalem that day. There's nothing in the scripture that said the people in the upper room spoke in tongues to convince the people who were in the streets. It was just a by product. And Peter still had to preach to them, because they weren't preached to in their native languages through tongues. The gift of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues is not the same as the gift of diverse tongues in Paul's epistles. The latter not everybody will experience. But the promise about receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost is to all who call upon His name. Just to add, when I got the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues for the first time, I wasn't even in church. I was at home and the Spirit moved upon me. Yes, it was like a mighty rushing wind. LIKE. I am not saying I felt or heard a mighty rushing wind come through my home. But that's what it seemed like. The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.” John 3:8. Have you ever just stood still during a windy day? Notice you actually don't hear the wind itself? How do you hear the wind? You hear the EVIDENCE of it. You hear the sounds of the tree branches hitting each other back and forth, the you hear the burst of wind around buildings and other objects. If you try to listen for the wind itself, it makes no noise. And that's a scientific FACT. Wind doesn't make any noise until it blows against an object. thefactbase.com/wind-doesn-t-make-a-sound-until-it-blows-against-an-object/ How do you hear the wind of the Spirit? Speaking in tongues. Now, all that said there's some vital points to take away from this: The emphasis in these churches should not be tongues. It alone doesn't mean somebody is saved. And it's a gift without repentance. Meaning a person can backslide and continue to live in sin and reject God's commandments and still have the Holy Ghost and manage to speak in tongues. Pastors who look at that only as the litmus test if the people in their congregation are living for God are sorely deceived. They are not looking for the fruit. If the gift of the Holy Spirit doesn't produce good fruit, then the person may not have repented or there are other issues in their life that need to be resolved.

So in Acts 2 :38 the word for in Greek means Eis. (baptized for the remission of sins) it means being baptized into, toward etc.. an operation is done on you with the blood applied. I agree about the tongues not being properly taught but how do you get around this scripture. The operation is the work of God, not our works.

Scripture only specified only Paul spoke in tongues/ what about the others ( Apostles / Disciples ) ? Could it be in Acts when laying on the hands and spake in tongues might be a way of confession in new conversation that Jesus is Messiah etc…? It reads they spoke/proclaimed of the wonderful works of The LORD … just dialoguing

It couldn’t. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14 to a whole church who were operating in the gift of tongues. They were operating in a spiritual gift, but in a carnal way. Read the chapter to refresh your memory. His conclusion, after criticizing their self aggrandizing use of the gift was not that they be silent, but that they ALL spoke in tongues. The gift of tongues is a GIFT (a good blessing from our loving Father) and needs to be respected as such and used for HIS honor, not our own badge of righteousness, seal of approval, or other carnal imaginations.
