PET and PP plates are definitely a nice addition to the current choices in the hobby. While I'm sure some folks wouldn't like the resulting sound shaping, I'm sure those of us looking to sculpt the sound of their boards toward our preferences, it's always great to have more strong options. For me, PET does strange things by itself versus with IXPE foam on the PCB. It seems to dampen the marbly sound of PE but by itself, it really adds a creamy sound signature
Hi, Ben! I'm mostly new to this keyboard scene and love it so far. I would like to pick your brain on some stuff. Would you say the Rainy75 is good for a starter? I'm looking to screw around with modding on some boards in the future so i'm wondering is this is a good one to mess around with. If not, what would you say would be the ideal pickup? (budget isnt an issue) Also, where do you buy stuff like foam, film, lube, etc.? Stuff like that. Also, what are some of the best sites to buy switches and keycaps? Can be super niche switches too. I'm down to try anything. 🙂
the borad looks given the price, specially considering it offers wireless and BT connection. Tho the wkl layout is a bit odd, they do offer wk option along with a optioanl FR4 plate. I am considering to get a e-white wk.
you’d think if they were going to offer WKL they’d also offer a PCB with 7u, that’s absolutely wild! Also I am just genuinely shocked at this point to see flex cuts in a PC plate, particularly when paired with a 1.6mm no flex cut PCB, I can only assume they serve absolutely no functional purpose. Regardless, enjoyed the review and appreciate you sharing the content! Excited to hopefully get your take on more HMX switches at some point!
Flexcuts on plate (while on a no flexcut PCB) offers a slightly higher pitch sound profile. Blacksimon made the analogy that it's like typing and getting "ding" sounds, instead of "dongs" you otherwise get with a plate with more surface area.
appreciate the reply, that makes sense! It would be interesting to see a side by side sound test with the same switches, PCB, and case with and without a flexcut plate. Definitely would say for my preference, foamless no flexcut PCB builds sound better than foamless flexcut PCB builds in the comparisons I’ve heard.
what's the difference between pvd weight and Aluminum weight? Whats the difference between e-coating vs. Anodized? Jris75 is e-coated. Mkc75 is Anodized. In orang3, i cant tell the difference. For example, the jris75, jris80, and maybe the jris65 have options for pvd weight and Aluminum weight. But the mkc75 only has Aluminum weight Please make a video on pvd vs. Aluminum, e-coating vs. Aluminum. It'd be cool to see a difference in color and material or even acrylic cases like SM keyboards or switch couture vs Aluminum keyboards. No one I've seen seems to be doing comparison on color finishes. That'd be cool to see
