@@sensationsuperthrust PR is a city with a neglected government, yeah its bigger but it's not going to expand Squad is a fantastic little town that is developed
@@Big_smoked not exactly, the PR team is still very active, just a week ago they got a new update with 9+ maps, reworked old maps, new factions, vehicles and weapons!
Reinstalled pr a couple days ago, I always had a much easier time squad leading in pr compared to squad. Probably because the skill level is higher than your average squad lobby.
Don't listen to them. I mainly SL now, and honestly it doesn't even feel like I'm really playing the game unless I SL. Mainly due to the fact as just a squad member, you have very little impact on winning or losing... but once you SL, you can easily single handedly win games for your team. It takes a certain personality type to effectively SL though. Make decisions, enforce your decisions, use your mic often, be friendly and easy going, but also be ruthless with the kick button for people refusing to work as a team. Oh, and don't be a dictator. Ask for reccomendations, ask what they think, take their advice sometimes. (Most SL's get this so wrong.)
Once i played PR for first time, i was 15-16 y.o at that time. Mine english was bad and i didn't had a mic but i remember i was playing on one server all the time. There was a one guy he was like 30-40 y.o and he took me with him so we were anti air. I remember we were also laser designating targets for CAS. There were 3 of us, That dude who was a leader of squad and another guy that was always in vehicle i remember it was Tunguska or Shilka not sure and there was me just spotting targets. I remember that i used to write in squad chat were are the targets and leader tells that to the 3rd guy and he would obliterate enemy soldiers. I also did laser for CAS and when first bomb fell to that place i felt like i have some use in this game. I was noob back then, neither im better now since i stopped playing it because my pc died but yeah, PR is such a masterpiece and its sad to see that there are not much servers anymore like back then. Squad looks good but in my opinion it doesen't have a soul like PR had, PR players are mostly some 30+ yo guys who probably served in afghan or somewhere else once random guy game me a advice for a life so i won't forget that experience. I hope you PR players are doing good and I hope we'll see each other again somewhere on the battlefield.
One thing Squad ought to change are the damage values for vehicles. In PR I remember taking out lightly armored vehicles & trucks with a single RPG to the engine. In Squad, a logi truck can survive an RPG... the vehicles are just way too spongey
Project reality has a more veteran fan base that knows what they're doing compared to squad. That's why the teamwork is better even with the free to play moniker and possible noobs joining because its old.
Still praying everyday that attack helicopters are added to Squad at some point, not just CAS variants of the existing transport helicopters (though they should definitely exist as well), but full-blown attack helicopters; the AH-64D, Mi-28N, WZ-10, etc. Pilotable fixed-wing aircraft are desired as well, and they were promised in Squad’s Kickstarter, but let’s let OWI tackle attack helicopters before they move onto jets.
None is better than the other, however, PR is more relevant because it has older players and plays in an organized way (many are or were real military personnel) but in Squad this is not often seen, for the simple fact of having teenage players. and inexperienced in the way of organized play.
with vehicles getting IR smoke and the Bfirst bradly coming in, im also hoping we get a armor overhaul to something similar like Squad 44's armor. Hoping these are just light updates paving the way for the bigger one.
We also need vehicles to have hard and soft kill APS against ATGMs. Realistic ERA would be nice on top of that. After that, we need to have anti-air defenses in the form of vehicles and MANPADS alongside attack helicopters and helicopter gunships. Adding those before AA defenses would be unbalanced.
y'know how in the 8.0 update patchnotes, OWI said that the atgm overhaul will open the door for more dedicated anti-air weapons in the future? I feel like the cas update will come there when anti air weapons are added.
i switched to squad, since my group of players fall appart. So i find a new group in squad, that has also the potential to get a big friendship. I started with squad in 2015, quit it there for a year or so and than i get addicted to the game for some years... And you get another point, i also miss the close air support. See you in Yeho, i am the guy who drives the gunner that hit your tracks ;)
As a long time fan of Project Reality, it's undeniable how immersive and intense Squad gunplay is. I have never played a game, not even ArmA, that portrays shooting a firearm being so violent and intense (like you can almost feel the recoil and vibration due to the visual effects and low frequency audio). But it feels like it's missing something, something that PR has. I prettt much only play Squad now for the SquadOps One-Life events, outside of that, I never had quality matches with awesome teamwork from both sides in public matches unlike when playing PR.
13:00 I remember when Project Reality was like this years ago. Its been a solid 10 years since I played PR and I'm glad people still do! Watching this makes me want to get back into it! Thank you!
Last time I played squad was before it had tanks, helicopters or basically anything other than basic vehicles and infantry, but even then it felt good for the "hop in and just play" style. Maybe it's not hardcore mil-sim, but very close. Edit: Checked steam. Last played: Jul 13, 2017. WTF? It feels like I played it just a few years ago, what the hell is wrong with time.
In therms of functionality and military accurate stuff project reality still wins, squad has less content than pj, I mean it’s getting there but still doesn’t have what project reality has compared to it so it doesn’t have jets, cas and no tank thermals and more.
My Squad/Reforger friends get tired of me telling them how great PR was/is. I haven't played in a long time, but PR will always have a special place in Milsim for me.
Since the incredible ico. I can't say one is better now than the other, They are different experiences now to me. Like squad 44 vs hell let loose Helldivers vs starship troopers Zero hour or Ready or not Different. One clearly is more polished and or larger funding. PR is the old, janky, beloved car that if someone new comes along, struggles to get onto the highway, but you can straight up straight street race like a pro with Squad is the shinning newest sexy car where everyone can drive it after a while, but it feels less...special somehow, but feels somehow more..satisfying because you have a nice clean hd view outside.
It’s the first time in my life that I hear about project reality Tbh I like Squad quite a lot, I live in LATAM, so the amount of servers that have good ping and don’t speak Portuguese are few, I think that there is only one lol. And in this server TW is constantly present and solo player are quickly remove from the server, mainly because Squad isn’t a solo player game and we try to “keep it “ that way
Pr is great and Squad is okay the biggest difference is the content and miniscule features that make the biggest differences like ducking as a turret gunner. Also squad development is the slowest of any game with it being out for a decade and we haven't even gotten fast ropes we were promised from Kickstarter. Also squad is straight spaghetti code thats why we can't have some of the things we want or it takes 5x as long. They even said this themselves that its spaghettis code to the max and that they have to work around it.
It was to test the waters with the playerbase. Leaving it in made no sense for balance as it was only for the marines faction and it had no equivalent in any other faction.
There is ALOT that PR does way better than Squad. Even the small details like being able to crouch when you are the topgunner on a vehicle to increase survivability. Gear is way more correct for us impression nerds. But most its just the sheer amount of factions and maps. Squad looks great and handles quite good. But its just shallow in comparison.
You can get the "PR friends" experience in Squad too. You're comparing the experience of a seasoned player with a single server as it's home in a game with a playerbase of 200 on a good day to hopping on a random servers as a new player with less than a 1000 hours in a game with a daily pop of 15000. Sure, the ICO took a toll on the community, many experienced and skilled players left leaving an abysmal void of incompetence from the average player but there are still familiar faces around if you stick to one community you like.
PR was such a vibe back in the day. The amount of stuff it offers now makes modern milsims look foolish, but i don't think i've touched it in nearly 10 years...
The Squad community is the worst community I've ever experienced. There are nice people, but for the most part, they're negative, toxic, and gatekeepers. Many of the players don't want to play as a team or communicate. I've found the players in Arma 3 and Arma Reforger to be a refreshing change. PR is just too old and too ugly.
I think jets are not viable for a game like squad, the map is too small and an airplane would traverse the it in 5 seconds basically. I don't know how they made it work in PR but I don't like the idea that jets are slower than irl because the map is small. Maybe they could make it so that there is an extension of the map that is low res so jets can actually have some space to fly. But this also comes from a DCS player, so i am a lot for realism.
How do you get in a good squad in Squad? Any server, only about 10% of squadleaders do proper squadleading. Whereas PR playerbase is very strict, pretty much every full squad is properly led by SL. Any Squad servers that i need to know where playerbase actually plays akin to PR?
I don't know about servers persay, but there are many milsim groups and competitive teams out there, Queens Guard, 7th cav (they have a server, though I never played on it) . Though I'm biased, (I'm an admin there and rarely played anywhere else XD.) I think DMH is pretty good at maintaining a consistent level of SLs. especially for a "new player friendly" server. We wont kick players just because they are bad, we try to help teach them to be better. QG are really good, they usually rock house when they join our server and stack up on one side. We try to join the opposite team to stop it from being so one sided and they will still rock us.
my greatest problem with squad is how badly optmized it is, i have a decent rig that can run modern games on medium settings, and yet i would struggle to get decent FPS during gunfights, if someone popped smoke it would go down to like 20 fps, PR may look bad but the performance is always great
Just uninstalled Squad yesterday. Yes ICO is good but Squad still delivers a lot of elements that makes team play optional which leads to frustrating gameplay.
I really only play Global Escalation on squad. I tried to play PR but the jank and unintuitive controls and play while there are similarities is a lot to try and tolerate and learn to play. Also having 0 US servers or english pleaking servers doesn't help.
As much as hate Bluedrake on his reporting of overhyped news, yeah his take on PR's legality status is on point. We're one huge explosion in community away from getting that cease and desist.
oh give me a break... nobody cares about PR legal status... bluedrake is just butthurt that pr devs are not exactly fond of him and he cant make a good game....
@@MrAkurvaeletbe Dude, I shat on BD's game so hard BigFry pre amptively banned me when I hinted that he went easy on it cuz BD is his friend. You don't know me lil bro.
You've shown us PR gunplay. It was on your video. We can see PR was nothing like ICO. Then you tell us ICO mimics PR? WTF? It's obvious classic squad guns were more like PR. Plus you make it sound like the sway bug was patched. It wasn't. They acknowledged it barely and have yet to saw anything about it.
@@acidpoptart4270 If I'm laughing at what you said then, yes, you're safe to assume our opinions differ. Guy, it's a company partly founded by ex PR devs who's stated mission plan was replicating PR in a modern engine that could provide gameplay options, graphics and physics that BF2 engine is simply incapable of. Positing that it's "totally different" is nonsense and implying that the only striking similarity is a "rough concept of area denial" is laughable.
@@synchc Squad has no jets; Squad does not have massive maps like PR; Squad does not have all the weapons/assets that PR has. If you wanted to compare Squad to PR, It's literally just a raw cut gutted pretty version of PR with everything minimalized.
@@acidpoptart4270 Lol I knew you'd go on to point out the miniscule differences. Last time I played PR it was mainly 1, 2 and 4km maps exactly the same as squad. Maybe there were 8km experimentals on Falklands. But I'm glad you brought up maps because Squad _literally has maps it took from PR, including the bases and capture points._ As for the missing assets and gameplay: do you think that's by design? You think OWI skipped all the cool aspects and assets of PR to, what? Slim line it? No. They'd love to have 99% of the stuff PR has but just haven't got the resources (or talent, honestly) it takes to put all those things into a commercial AA product. They're certainly trying and have already promised more than they'll likely ever deliver before Squad 2 inevitably happens. Your OP was nuts, mate. Simple as. I'm struggling to think of two different games by two different studios that have gameplay _more_ similar than Squad and PR.
@@chrisbeisman1314 EA came out in 2015. But yeah you can just tell by how it plays its outdated as fuck. Clunkfest at this point. Reforger feels like a modern Squad.
@@Tinylittledansonmanlike arma reforger isn't way clunkier and buggier, and need to download many mods to get a modern experience on a few limited servers when squad already comes with a pretty modern experience + more maps + more factions + more guns + more immersive
yeah well its getting better and better to be honest. dont need a nasa computer anymore to play it decently. got actually worse FPS in HLL than squad. :D
That story about a small rural town, that's so freaking true. Lots of love for this kind of content. "Cheers mate" - *project reality british voice actor voiceline*
And that is one of the upsides: Given that you are a positive constructive actor, you can do more in the village than in the city. But a bit of growth would not hurt. Project Reality needs more players (coming back from their shallow and greedy, commercial mistresses). It would be great to get back enough NA players back so an NA server would be stable. Currently, SA, EU, MEt, RU and SEA communities are going strong. And also, the new update is around the corner.
You play Squad because it's new and nice looking. You play Project Reality because you are a veteran-milsim-gamer and you have seen the worst of humanity in action.
@@indi8990 This dinosaur is the newest "milsim" you can play, unless you want to be Bohemia's beta tester with Reforger and download 20 mods to make it fun
Sadly there is issues with base UE physics that make it hard to bring in full cas support like jets. That was the reason helicopters were skipping around so much was due to the server trying to catch up to the client. So you would get stutters, but also anything faster than the heli, the player would experience skipping and uncontrollable movement of the jet. Jhett had a video about it awhile ago. Although most of it is fixed, there is still issues with fast movement in squad.
@@Noxxid3 Vehicles of any kind are actually easy to have for UE4 games its one of the best engines around. Its how they coded the game from the ground up thats the problem. They've admitted it themselves how bad the code was and that they have to fix it slowly, they honestly fucked up bad and now can't go back and just have to move forward sadly. We just have to deal with that Squad will no where be near PR in terms of content.
The level of gameplay quality on a random average PR public server in PRs hayday was better than anything you would encounter on any clan hosted server in arma or squad
This does not apply to Project Reality Arma 2 mod and it's successors for Arma 3 and now Reforger. It has never been popular enough to allow douchebags into the community, time goes by, but this doesn't change
@@TimmyRH On paper yes, but the fact that you even bring this up means that you dont seem to know how different pvp in PR and arma really was. Armas pvp was never good for various reasons.
@@sensationsuperthrust what do you mean on paper? I've been playing on a 100v100 pvp one-life server (weekly events) since 2011, it is much more realistic than PR. You've probably only heard about Arma pve communities, that's something completely different.
@@TimmyRH i got 1800 hours of arma 3 on steam, arma 3 pvp was and will allways be garbage compared to pr. Even if it wasnt for the game breaking legacy engine issues, there was never a good and coherent gamemode in arma 3 and lets not even talk about server culture, scheduled events in arma cant even hold water to a average public server in pr back in the days
Before even finishing the video, after playing Hell Let Loose today for 8 hours (free weekend) and also spending 12 hours in Squad in the past, but also having more than 200+ hours on PUBG and DayZ, I have to say my opinion that in games like these, the trend of having maximum possible graphics on a high tier end PC is ruining it for me - sure, my budget PC could have been a high-end machine also if I have had invested more, but comparing all these games together, I cannot help but feel like that visual quality is most needed distance-wise and also anti-aliasing wise - AKA the visual concrete foundation of such games is that I should be able to see what everyone else is seeing even on a potato PC - fuck nice effects and such, models, shadows, rendering all that should have a foundation in a performance low-budget range, like the engine itself imho in each of these games does not needs some fancy stuff, what I have found to be the MOST CRITICAL aspect of such games is imho sound design, where all of the sounds should be pitch-perfect in communication to each individual player. To summarize: for visual I do not need extra quality textures, I need fucking A-tier visibility of objects that is not hindered by performance, same goes for audio, which imho should be universal and the most fine-tuned aspect of any tactical shooter.
Absolutely agreed. I detect people with high end PCs by simply looking at scoreboard and their kills. Because my soapy picture is far from visualy-readable. But sound design is excelent in Squad.
Coming up on 18 years of playing PR, having played squad since pre alpha. I think your analogy of PR being the small town vs big city SQUAD is the most accurate analogy of the two separate spaces I can think of.
@@aceambling7685 Are you even considering the fact that we are talking about multiple mod teams vs one dev team? No shit that together they can pump out more content than OWI. You literally don't know how game development works, there are so many assumptions in your one single comment. Like OWI has to split their time and resources managing/developing an entire game. While a mod team puts all their time and resources into just one specific thing.
That whole section about the hook is too real. I love it so much but it seems a lot of people I've spoken too in squad hate the idea of the hook being add for various reasons/
I'm still praying that BF3: Reality Mod will eventually become good enough to attract some decent playerbase. I'm completely fed up with these newer tactical/pseudo-milsim shooters and their jank performance, generic Unreal Engine look and total lack of immersive tech such as environmental destruction. Battlefield 3 on the other hand looks amazing, runs on a toaster and allows you to blow nearly everything up. A "Project Reality" BF3 would make SQUAD utterly obsolete. But, unfortunately, the mod just doesn't have enough content to make people want to play it. It's still too much like vanilla BF3, and the complete lack of "marketing" on social media doesn't help either.
BF3:RM is dead in the water. It can't compete with the ammount of content in PR due to it's longevity and it can't compete with squad's updates due to it being made by volunteers. There is no incentive to play it for the average player, and without a core experienced playerbase it might as well not exist.
@@guidantyt Once they have that more solid base they should contact RU-vidrs who made squad extra popular to begin with like karmakut, slorgs, moidog, nano etc to promote it again as if it just came out. There simply wouldn't be competition to bf3 physics, destruction, and ability to integrate aircraft. All things squad is lacking.
@@guidantyt tbf I only knew about project reality and squad and what even a match in those look like thx to RU-vidrs. Otherwise I'd have been stuck in modern battlefield hell with my only ropeline being rising storm 2 which is now dead.
Offworld should combine all their games into one like how PR has modern and WW2 in one game. OWI could have us voting for the next round to be Beyond the Wire, Squad '44, Squad, or Starship Troopers. btw re CAS: in the v8 release notes they say about ATGM's "our main goal is to move these weapons away from being effective anti-aircraft weapons to open the door for more dedicated anti-air weapons in the future". I hope this means they're trying to get the attack helicopter back into the game.
Idea is cool, but not doable. Sure, it's all Unreal, but it wasn't developed together. There's no interchangability of assets. a Tree in Squad is a different tree than in Post Scriptum (now Squad 44). There's separate mechanics, separate damage models, hell- even separate UI layouts. It wouldn't just mean combining the games- it would mean mostly rewriting them all into the same standard. Doable, but heaaaavily time consuming and not worth the effort. It would essentially be an entirely different game, Squad 2 if you will 2. Disk space bloat. the level of detail that today's graphics require is simply incomparable. Even when merged and generally interchangable? Having period apropriate stuff for both world wars and modern setting would probably mean something in the 100+ GB realm. Would only make sense for a Squad successor. Something built from the ground up with that intent.
Post Scriptum and Beyond The Wire should have been DLC for Squad from the beginning but OWI was greedy and thought they could sell them separately at full price. They couldnt, and both games flopped hard and failed to retain playerbase. The Starship Troopers game is worse, because they just ripped off a free mod that was better.
Yes. It is. 'Ate modern ballistic deviation 'Ate high FPS demand 'Ate demanding shaders Luv' me Project Reality Luv' me Mumble chat Luv' me low-quality graphics Simple as
Squad really needs pilotable air assets like scout, attack, and heavy-lift helicopters along with fixed-wing aircraft (along with appropriate countermeasures like MANPADs, SPAAGs, AA emplacements at FOBs) to be on par with Project Reality. It would be nice to see more factions with the sniper role, the breacher class with shotguns, more SMGs (pilot and crewman roles).
@@indi8990 I would hate to lose all of the content that is currently in Squad, it’s taken 10 years to get here. Unless Squad 2 shipped with all of Squad 1’s content and features…

The video is super good and enjoyable but the comparison that u just wont meet/recognise ppl from squad if u play just isn't accurate IMO. if u regular the same few servers, which I do anyway since I exclusively play Invasion Only, you'll come across the same people oftentimes than not.
