Is PVC Worth It for a French Drain? [ What is the Best Yard Drainage Pipe ]

We have a PVC French drain system that we ripped out of the ground. The problem is PVC pipe only has holes on the bottom. Our High Octane corrugated pipe has eight inlets 360 degrees all the way around the pipe. These are the largest inlets in the industry. You cannot find a pipe with more inlet than High Octane. So let's get you guys back to the basics where we go over failure, what failure looks like and how to prevent it.

The key is filter fabric AND burrito method NOT the type pipe.

Question, would the PVC have failed or stood more of a chance, had it been wrapped the way your crew typically does with the non woven geotextile fabric and the 1½" round rock?

Yes. The problem here is the sediment clogging the pipe. A massive issue. Very obvious problem. The solution is not the pipe type but the FABRIC. The non woven geo textile will prevent all that fine sediment from moving from the surrounding native soil into the gravel trench and into the pipe. No sediment in the pipe, no problems.

PVC has disadvantages because it only has holes on the bottom. It's also terrible for humans, animals, and the environment ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kqUNnc0j8Kg.htmlsi=75YeytVBmy4zKAcn

It does not plug immediately if you put river rocks around it and wrap it in Sta - Green material.

My question is I need to bury a pipe that is going to go across a drive lane onto which cement trucks are going to subsequently drive onto, gravel covererd temporarily 1.5 thick or more of gravel. I do not see anything but PVC hard pipe being able to withstand that. Am I right? I see past that point having more options to change the material so to drain water away from my house foundation. The overall pipe lenght is to be 15 meters and it sure is going to slope 2% or more to a capped or partially capped end. Any tips? I see this does not really compare to the very long system shown in your above video but, could you give me some tips. Thanks

how would work then a pvc pipe with holes all around and covered with non Non-Woven Geotextile Fabric?

It's too brittle to have holes 360゚it would Crack and separate that's why they do not sell pvc with holes 360° ru-vid.com/group/PLjFCqaZ4v1BX_ZMbxsYVB6CNFoeAmuPxX

What if drill holes 360 degrees on pvc or sdr35 and put gravel/fabric?

Well of course that type of system will fail in 2 years or less with any pipe with holes, especially without enough gravel, or without any gravel around it, which it seems to appear in the video, there isn’t much gravel in sight, or any at all , very difficult to believe anyone would do such a thing ……

Yup, not about type pipe, it's about filter fabric.

Exactly. When installed correctly, PVC will outlast that flimsy flexible corrugated pipe by many years.

@@FRENCHDRAINMAN in theory if a person already had their own pvc and drilled their own holes all the way around and used rocks double the size of the holes and then burrito wrapped it, woud it work fine? Assuming they only had to go in a straight line.

No fabric, but it had a lot of gravel that plugged
@lekamyballs
@lekamyballs 9 месяцев назад
Why wouldn’t you try to hydrosnake it first to clear it out
@FRENCHDRAINMAN
@FRENCHDRAINMAN 9 месяцев назад
Because the aggregate is plugged solid with sediment at the bottom of the trench. If holes were 360 degrees all the way around the pipe, the pipe would take in water. Unfortunately only corrugated pipe has holes 360 degrees, PVC does not.
