We're all being constantly gaslit into this idea that everything is slowly improving due to technology and social progress, but nothing that actually matters to the average person ever really improves. Meaningless things like national GDP may continue to climb, but all the things which really matter for quality of life just stagnate, or often even slowly degrade, such as inflation-adjusted average income.

CHARLS IS SO BASED AND REDPILLED. Baked in lighting is absolutely superior to raytrace unreal engine plastic looking soy fugly garbage! Halo 3 was peak graphics in many ways in 2007 and it was beautifully done baked in lighting. Theyve never been able to make a halo game look better since. Reach came close in 2010 and evolved in some ways, but the qualify has gone down and was never able to return. They sacrifice so much for these 'dynamic light sources' even if the game looks like total crap in comparison to their older predecessors. And the comment about qualitative descriptions being a nondescript psychic transfer. Common esoteric Charls W!

@@paskaalisaapaskaa5354 This has also tormented me as well. Its like it shouldnt look as good as it does all this time later but it does. Lot of people point towards the really good art style. The colors, the lighting techniques and the visual tricks to achieve things. I think the textures were state of the art at the time. Actually they were ahead of their time, except for the facial models. But i think the solid engineering and supreme art direcrion carried the look of the game super hard even to this day.

I've been talking about this idea of "elite hyper-evolution" for like 5 years now. Even our poor enjoy luxuries that a medieval king couldn't have even dreamed of. Well it seems like they caught on that we've had it too good for too long and now it's time to widen the gulf. So for why browsers are so slow is because of lack of limitations. Back when hardware was extremely limiting it forced devs to get really creative (enough to fit doom on a calculator). Whenever hardware got powerful, there was no need to write code efficiently, like if you need a calandar there’s no reason to code it anymore you can just import someone’s else code that is full of bells and whistles you don’t need, and isn’t written very efficiently. So you end up with a ton of bloat that really isn’t noticed until it is. Then it is too late to fix it all. On the point of hardware not improving, it actually is at a pretty crazy rate, but it has surpassed everything you view and interact with so u can’t see the difference. Good hardware can easily stream 4k, and above that your eyes can’t tell a difference. Games don’t run well because they are coded like garbage (reason above plus cheap devs who can’t code) so they slow down even the best of the best. But games that are coded decently, like flight simulators can be run easily. So we are waiting for graphics to catch up to hardware, but graphics are quickly reaching the point of not being able to be improved much. So from a consumer perspective we are kinda close to reaching the peak where a normal computer runs everything you could want

Graphics quality and media size increase and scales alongside bandwidth demand/availability. A 1440p 60fps RU-vid video loads at more or less the same speed as a 480p one did in 2008 because higher quality = higher source file size = more bandwidth needed for transfer. If every video on RU-vid was still 480p, every video would load instantly. Charls is like halfway right here but missing a lot of context.

yep. been telling people for a while (several years) we are quite literally maxed out in regards to technology, all limitations that exist now are from physical aspects of reality which cannot and will not be over ridden.... only tech that exists out there that hasn't been revealed to the public is (zero point energy) and (electron cloud antigravity field generation)

the future of computing is "cloud" they will say, oh you're using a quantum computer now They want to make home OS function like video game consoles, no capacity to edit higher functions. No editing power, no editing values or censors. There is no such thing as quantum computing. There only exists the capacity to turn huge networks of computers into essentially one massive computer that serves low iq users.

and when i say cloud computer, listen, you will be using a GUI from a controller that autoconnects to wifi, and requires your digital id to sign in and use, this will allow the amazon gaming network to handshake digitally with your networks and track your federal drivers license in real time.. this is the real future that is planned, not some future where people get to eat cake and watch it too

Solid state batteries are cool and can genuinely revolutionize energy storage. Additive construction methods could make housing far less time consuming and expected to construct. Fungal computation like OP referenced is insanely cool, not to mention I guarantee you have heard of quantum computing. Want to talk about more?

the real issue with la noire is that brendan mcnamara was obtrusive to the game's quality. i think most game devs acknowledge that crunch is part of the process. it has been forever since atari was forcing solo devs to make games with big expectations and not enough time. that is why the infamous E.T happened. its not new. from all detailed accounts, the dude just was a terrible director

i am in Holland and websites are not faster here also websites didnt use to take a whole gigabyte of Ram either its just lazy designing if every one runs at least 16 gigs of Ram these day frick making anything optimal Brave crashes after 10 tabs who cares let it crash take Starcraft 2 for example you can run it on a potato toaster but there is no PC that runs that game good the whole game is just designed to run of your first 2 PC cores and it just ignores the rest this has never been fixed in the 20 years the game is out now apply that to everything and it starts making sense
