I bought the 24-70 GMii but returned it because I didn't think it was worth the price. Yes, it's awesome, but not $2,300 awesome. I now use primarily a Sigma 28-70 or Sony 24-105 instead if I need a zoom. But these days I'm shooting mostly Sigma primes. Great video!

I've only spent 5 minutes with the GMII so far and I'm already debating returning it. The 20-70mm f4 I had was sharper wide open and didn't have chromatic aberration like this one does wide open. If I stop it down I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue but I'm thinking of buying the 28-70mm sigma and buying a whole other lens with the savings. Or I could even go back to the 20-70mm and buy a telephoto since I have small f1.8 35,50, and 85mm primes. I just know that 28mm isn't wide enough so I'd have to also get a wide lens. The 20-70mm is almost all that is needed on the wide end. I'm going to test it some more this week and see what I decide.

@@benldrany updates? I like tamron g2 but Sony bodies perform better with Sony native lenses. I can’t decide Sony 24-70gmii or this tamron g2
@benldr
@benldr 10 месяцев назад
@@lewcehjitl3282 I was wrong about it. Turns out it's sharper than the 20-70 f4 and optically it's perfect. I wasn't used to the heavier weight and I was shooting with too slow of a shutter speed. I sped it up and it is better than the 20-70 for sure. I still think the 20-70 is a fantastic lens and it is really nice to carry around. If you only shoot in good lighting then the 20-70 is all you need, especially with light rooms new background blur functionality. I personally wouldn't go for the Tamron because it starts at 28mm and sometimes I wish the 24mm was wider. That's my only complaint with the GMII. The good thing about it is that although I sometimes wish it were wider it is worth the compromise for the other benefits, but I would have been even more tempted to keep the 20-70mm if the new light room background blur feature was out at that time. The GMII is way heavier than the 20-70mm.

i've both owned tamron and sigma f2.8 zooms and i feel many like me are constantly hit by the upgrade bug, always looking for the next upgrade. Buying the gm II would be a once and done for most enthusiast photographers. Investing in good glass is always one for the long run instead of the constant buying , selling , upgrade. That said , the price of the gm ii is definitely a tough pill to swallow.

I got this Tamron two weeks ago. It is only 1/3 of the price of the Sony but if you work with it without holding them side by side or zooming in 400%, there is no big difference. It's a pleasure to have a standard zoom of this quality at 700-750€!

....This is a case of a 'win-win' scenario: the Tamron 28-75 is an excellent value for the average consumer or beginning pro on a tight budget, you just have to decide if you can live with the 4mm less width, which is often a breaking point (weddings, cityscapes)... The Sony 24-70 GMII is just freaking UNREAL and one of the best lenses I've ever used, and, other than bokeh, outperforms many lower-priced prime lenses at those focal lengths. The GM's - especially all the GMII's - get the very best performance out of Sony's high-end cameras (A1, A9/A9II) in fps (Non-native lenses have a 15 fps capture rate on the A1, for example), so the GM's are your only option if high burst rate is crucial... Kudos to Sony for owning a 17% share in Tamron, they are obviously sharing technology with them, and the consumer is getting a ton more lenses to chose from a great prices!! Great video buddy, let's see that 24-70 GMII vs. 50mm prime video!! 😃👍🤜🤛

To highlight your excellent points: Win-win for the Sony e-mount! Tamron outstanding performance for the price. GM's extra value is not just video but photos that can match the quality of primes and ever focal length in-between where no primes exist! and the 24-70mm being one of the most useful focal ranges and holds it value. For me a non-pro Tamron all the way and the GM II I have to earn it.

Hell, even that tameron lens is beyond my budget satisfaction. The most I spent on a lens is about 600, and that was a telephoto lens. I spent around 150 to 300 on prime lenses such as an af 30mm af 75mm and a vintage 135mm lens on a sony a6400.

@@KenseiAkatsu Kensei - I was not implying any criticism in my comment. I think you are doing fine . Please review what pleases you and I will watch! I am laughing because I just impulse bought two new Tamron lenses ( the 20-40 and the 70-300) when I thought I was going to buy the 35 G Master for the same money! Unless I get my hands on the G Master at a later time, I will never know which decision was the "best." But I am enjoying my new lenses and feel a renewed pleasure in photographing what I see around me so maybe that is really what counts - not fractional improvements in sharpness, tone, etc. for many more $$$. I think you are wise in always pointing that out in your comparisons.

good ending would be you talking all Japanese with both English and Japanese subtitles about off the main video topic, like you did here in this vid, addressing subscribers, asking for advice, explaining last video last minute question to attract people to previous content - give some glimpse of your private life - like my gf/bf my cat my family member my friend, something random that happened to you - like a flashlight glimpse on Japanese culture - all in Japanese language - maybe footage of real Japanese woman or a man with some questions not necessary related to photography - but all in photography take would work to - but then make sure to provide onscreen details of exact gear used. software used for processing rendering etc - only last minute - that seems and sound like a lot of extra work - but would be definitely great to end with the bang!

Hey man! I’m really curious, did you use the same white balance / contrast settings for both shots when you compared similar shots? The Tamron colors seem a lot warmer or yellow/orange tinted. I think you also mentioned this in another video. To me, the Tamron would be a good option, given the lighter build, but those straight out of the camera color tones seem like a deal breaker when compared to other models, like sigma contemporary 28-70 or art 24-70, so I’m wondering if it can be prevented somehow.

That's a good point! Maybe it's kinda overkilling for social media. But at least it's making some differences and I think that's beneficial for some people!

About the color rendering, Sigma built a yellow world. :( With $ony's unpredictable AWB, it seems not photo on earth.

SO SONY INTENTIONALLY MAKES AUTOFOCUS AND IBIS WORSE ON NON SONY LENSES! PEOPLE SHOULD SUE SONY FOR THIS! Autofocus is 100% depends on camera not lense. Camera tells lens how much to focus, not lense. IBIS is also built into camera not lense.

Its not double the price, its triple in real life, and its not worth it. I see your examples on a large 4k screen, and they are just not different enough. I know diminishing returns, but 3x the price? Hell no, you could get this tamron and another gmaster prime for the same price. And in the image stabilisation section, you did not even mention which camera body you used. And how does the lens impact ibis anyway? You are saying the sony throttles the ibis on 3rd party lenses? I know your tests are not scientific in the slightest, but some of the stuff bordering on nonsence and total non repeatability and subjectivity.

Are people nowadays really comparing cheaply made, mass manufactured glass from Tamron, Sigma, Samyang and the likes to high quality lenses that took months to design, engineer and manufacture? Seriously? I mean, I guess if you don't care about image quality and just pixel peep for sharpness, CA and look at bokeh, then I guess you can compare anything to anything.

@@Yupthereitism How can I regret buying a better product? I don't understand. Oh I get it, you meant to write that YOU regret YOUR purchase but you misspelled it. Oh... Makes sense now. I would regret buying cheaply made, mass manufactured glass if I was you too. I hope you do realize that price has nothing to do with the quality of the manufacturing, design and engineering processes of a product. There are manufacturers like Zhong Yi (Mitakon), for example, who make SUPER CHEAP glass but since they make their lenses available on Leica, Hasselblad, PhaseOne and Fuji G mounts, they need to hold up a higher quality standard and their lenses need to at the very least be close to or match the image quality standards of native Leica, Hasselblad and PhaseOne lenses. You get top notch engineering for $300-$800. You won't see that with 90% of other manufacturers and you most definitely wont see that with crappy, mass manufactured, casual consumer grade garbage from Tamron, Samyang, Sigma and the likes.
