This is my all time favorite anime and the only series I've watched 3 times already. Beautiful music, art, great characters and voices. It's just incredibly charming. They're bringing out a Plamax Deedlit figurine soon....gotta have it. And she has a videogame too: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. Lodoss lives!
This really is classic, and far better than any DaD fantasy arc, but it has been getting old , and Fantasy works such as Tolkeins Silmarillion still shine above it. The idea of dark elves, high elves and wood elves is heavily inspired by Tolkein's eldar, building on that and on the obscure origins of orcs in Arda's lore, to create good elves and dark elves, when the distinction between dark elves and orcs is that dark elves may appear as beautiful as high elves, and are highly intellegent, while orcs are usually armed cavemen. In Tolkein's works, elves from any people could turn into evil, be persuaded to do evil, and tempetd to do evil, but Tolkeins elves usually didn't serve the dark gods. Even Eo and Maeglin the two worst elves who had the personalities of dark elves from later fantasy works, were not satanists, Eo being an abusive husband, and the his son Maeglin being ambitous, while both being possessive and unpleasent.
There's a very lewd fantasy manga (basically smut, but wholesome at the same time) with my FAVORITE version of dark elves. In this series, elves tan VERY easily, so elves who leave the forest get super tan, thus becoming dark elves.

"Dated" is a compliment. This is from a time before digital coloring and CGI effects in anime. The artists actually had to draw and paint the animation cells. Everything is digitally colored now. Often overlaid onto a CG background. There were no shortcuts in 1990. The overrealiance on computers has led to a decline in quality.
race class combination existed since the original dnd, it was in basic that the elf became a mage/fighter only, man I love this old anime, frieren and isekai munchkin are the only manga that take me back to this kind of classic fantasy.
@@musingsbydaenen Give them a few years, when they can pay attention for more than five minutes at a time. Unfortunately, by that time, they're going to see old anime as passe, because old = bad.
Having just watched it... It's decent overall, but lost my interest in the latter part. The thing is the first episode is excellent. It perfectly sets up the tone of the show and in just a couple scenes you get s strong feel for the characters and their relationships. It got me hooked and then it immediately dropped the ball. The pace overall oscillated from really dragging to seeming like whole episodes were skipped. Still, it's worth the watch.
I just found the OVA a month ago. It was fantastic! The TV series, not so much. In fact I can't even get myself to finish it. Spark is everything wrong with Parn x10 and NO Deedlit after a couple episodes? They chose poorly. Chibi stuff is super cringe as well.
@@musingsbydaenen Yeah, well, I still love TMNT: Turtles in Time even though I know it's trash, because I loved it as a kid and watched it many times. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
