My company actually has fully embrace wfh. 70% of my co-workers are remote and they even pay my utilities every month as a stipend. Best company I ever worked for.

I realize that my view may not be popular but if you look at some trends that are happening recently is that companies are calling people back into the office at least a few days a week. Walmart one of the largest employers in the United States asked all their employees to resign or come back to the office. They are calling this quietly firing as in the process they are getting rid of many corporate level jobs. Walmart is also now building a large new headquarters - one that they want to have their employees in and not at home. Apple and other large companies are doing the same. I just feel this is a trend that will continue for many, may be not all, but for many it will continue to have people come in at least part of the time and maybe eventually even full time. If a remote worker has a very specific skill that people need they may be allowed to continue to work remote but if it is a job that can be truly remote, 100% remote work also opens up for employers to look overseas also. That is why in my opinion, employees should want to come back to the office at least part time.

It depends on the company. US companies may e require you to get permission to take a company laptop and phone to another country. For example you work in Ireland and want to visit family in th UK. You may not be allowed to work from the UK while on holiday. Companies are also spending millions on renting office space that only gets busy 3 days a week. They may state that you have to work from the office 2 days a week. They may take a dim view if people moved miles away from the office during the pandemic without informing their manager and HR.

Unlike the US, most wealthy nations have labor laws. Employers cannot simply alter working conditions that drastically without the employees approval. Unilaterally making the change is asking to be sued. Remote work isn't new, and will continue, going forward. It will expand, as the newer generations simply refuse to comply or participate in the workforce that needlessly require butts in seats.

This is will be interesting to see how it plays out. And a lot of this will be based on other factors, such as if AI will cut some jobs, will some of those jobs be jobs that people are refusing to go into the office for? If the economy is not doing well, will employers look overseas? I think workers should want to go into the office at least a bit to keep their finger on the pulse. But it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Now, the trend seems to be that companies are asking people to come back to the office at least 60% of the time. Even Federal Workers are now being asked to do that. What I am saying is if a job is 100% remote work, then what stops employers from going overseas? It opens up a whole new level of competition.

Actually, wifi in Vietnam at least in major cities, is very good, infact sometime faster and better than in the United States. We rarely have issues here and are able to stream or download anything.
