Hey bud, rate the videos! I work from home and obviously sitting down for 8 hours straight isn’t good for anyone especially runners. What would you recommend/prioritise every 30/40 minutes to do for 1-2 minutes when working so avoid the impact of sitting down for long periods of time. I already go for a run at lunch time

I would focus on exercises that strengthen the glutes and stretch the hip flexors. A good example is a single leg glute bridge / hip thrust, and I also like high step-ups. If you have access to stairs you could try taking the stairs three at a time. There's something about a unilateral movement like step-ups that in reality also works the opposing side of the body in a stabilising manner that I find really keeps everything working as it should be. Emphasising hip extension exercises will also help you keep your hips extended when running, which should help prevent lower leg injuries such as calf strains.

Loving the videos - I’m getting sore ankles when running longer distances, any tips on how to prevent that for marathon training?

Get them stronger, use a theraband and hold pressure pushing away with your foot, then rotate the ankles, move them in different directions

Whats the point of the drop jump? Is it to engage more muscle fibres because you're demanding the body to do a really fast jump. Or is it more about ground contact time?
@olivercowan
@olivercowan Год назад
Dropping acts to overload the muscles and tendons. The higher the box or step the greater overload you get. This also overloads the stretch response, and recuits more motor units and muscle fibres. You should start with a low step and work up, as this can put a lot of stress on your joints if you start jumping off boxes before you're ready. Also good to have decent strength in squatting movements, as this helps support the joints.
