Is Schneider Cutting Wages? | Rookie Trucking Earnings & Goals

It appears that Schneider Bulk’s new package for OTR drivers is now $13/hr for on-duty hourly pay. This is down from $15/hr. In this video, I discuss why I don’t think this is right, and what can you do about it as a rookie trucker. I also discuss my yearly earnings, and how I plan on paying off my debts and investing in the stock market.

as of today Schneider starts OTR dry van solo at 39cents per mile $10 an hour for on duty not driving. the new hire non experienced classes are 75% non US citizens. most are African nationals, Indian nationals and Iraqis . Schneider has gone with hiring people not legally in the country because they will work for less money.

The days of staying at companies for years and years is long gone as far as I’m concerned that was over with the pension. Companies, a lot of them, do not care about their employees and in many industries, you need to hop to maintain a good income. Do not be loyal to companies do what is best for you and your family. On the flipside of hopping you also have the right to question employers about why they can’t keep people. I am a former hiring manager, and I have certainly done that because the perspective employee has every right to interview the prospective employer, and that’s how it should be. Thanks for another great video .

job hopping or switching jobs is perfectly fine and smart if you make a move up. moving sideways every year or two is what hurts drivers. To me it shows poor planning and decision making, for example quitting schneider van to go to swift van or schneider bulk to prime bulk its basically same the job. Now switching from schneider van to UPS union job or Walmart, that's a move up. Schnieder bulk to Sheetz fuel is a step up

It's true and it's sad. I am in my first week of orientation with Schneider Bulk, in Houston TX. Starting pay for me (inexperienced, OTR) is 34 cpm and $15/hr, on duty- not driving. No per diem. Granted, my home OC is Reserve, LA, where COL is lower, but not that low anymore. 5 months ago, I was quoted 36cpm, $15/hr. Hourly remained the same, but is still an estimated cut of $2k/yr. off of an already paltry rate. I'm just praying I can hit $50k, 1st yr. If not, I'll take the experience and run. The risk, responsibility, and time away from home is worth so much more. Like you stated once, it was the only option in my area for inexperienced tanker training. If you’re at Schneider complaining about your pay id suggest looking into dedicated accounts. When I started with them 2 years ago I was making .48/mile and $10/hr just to get experience. Once I had 6 months experience, I switched to a dedicated account which paid .75/$10 plus a got a new truck that kept me OTR for another 13months. I switched to Intermodal about 8 months ago and now I’m home everyday with weekends off averaging about $1750. At Schneider you can get good training and experience with Dry,Reefer,Flatbed,Bulk, and Intermodal. I wanted to get bulk training but I hear the pay is terrible 😂. I just can’t justify the pay cut at this point. Point being you can make good money at Schneider but you have to keep your eye out for opportunities and be willing to seize them when they appear.

Most of the pay comes from driving. If you drive 1800 miles a week at .49 CPM, you’re at $880 roughly. Now, if you include all of the work non-driving like pretrips, post trips, fueling, load, unload. Tank wash, waiting at shipper/receivers, I’d estimate that to be around 15 hours. OTR loads around 1-2 a week since they drive the most miles. However, many Schneider bulk drivers have complained about sitting and waiting on loads. So 1800 miles may be too generous. So, a “good week” a tanker driver should expect $1000-$1200 a week… gross…and that’s a good week. It’s an embarrassing time to be alive.

It's better to buy a home when interest rates are high
@IakonaWayne
@IakonaWayne 2 месяца назад
No it is not, it’s better to buy a values are affordable and you plan to live there 8-10 years. You should be agnostic to interest rates.
@TheSolomonProject-kq6xz
@TheSolomonProject-kq6xz 2 месяца назад
@IakonaWayne sorry. I strongly disagree. If it's your first time buying understand that when interest rates are low, property values tend to be high. The town will charge taxes according to the price you pay for the home and it only goes up from there. With high interest you can always refinance to a lower rate in the future.
@IakonaWayne
@IakonaWayne 2 месяца назад
@@TheSolomonProject-kq6xz home prices don’t always go up(2008 great financial crisis or black Monday in Japan), but in general yes. But in the future they’re likely to go down given that the average person cannot afford one and rents are correlated with home prices. It’s okay to buy a home with a high interest rate of say 7% if the home is affordable relative ones income and a good value based on the market. But it isn’t okay to buy an unaffordable home or one that isn’t a good value even if interest rates are 0%.
@TheSolomonProject-kq6xz
@TheSolomonProject-kq6xz 2 месяца назад
@IakonaWayne Thank you. Yes, that's correct. Home prices and interest rates move in opposing directions. When home prices are high demand eventually decreases. In order to stimulate sales the prices have to come down. When the prices are high and the demand remains high it's usually because the economy is running hot and that's when the Fed steps in and raises rates. With the home prices high and the rates high demand for homes drop and as a result home prices drop. The rates don't go down along with the home prices because this is the opportunity for because to expand their profit margins.
