In this video I review Seiko's newest Prospex Men's Diver, the SPB313 re-creation. This Turtle case cushion diver boasts good specifications and perfect alignment but is this their best Prospex Diver? I think so but let me know what you think in the comments.

They've definitely got a lot right with this one but I'm not sure it's worth a grand. But like you say hopefully it's a turning point for them and they can start taking better care with their QC.

Like the watch and don't mind a circular date window to be honest. Not sure I'd want to spend nearly £1,000 on it, perhaps wait for a sale...

This is how you know that you really like something: As someone is pointing out the negatives or making complaints, you're saying in your head "ah, that's no biggie, I can deal with that!" It's not perfect but I'd rock it!

I've always had a soft spot for that color scheme. I have the same movement in my SPB143. It was a little erratic at first, but it settled in nicely at +2 seconds per day after about a month of consistent wear. Great review as always, Gary!

This Seiko is a home run for me, except the price of course! I prefer the Black and Guilt colour way. The big pluses for me are:- the complete compliment of lume plots / circular date at 4:30. Been wanting this for so long…. 🙏 Aluminium bezel, yes for me is has a warmer character and patina’s with grace. True 4 O’clock crown ✅ Slim dimensions, however imagine if they had given us the 6L35! We could have had an even slimmer watch! Then Seiko could have charged £1,000 for this watch. Quality bracelet, I prefer pin and collor, the most secure fixing method bar none for peace of mind. The downside:- I can’t see myself affording this and I do love it. Not enough micro adjustments on the clasp.

You're absolutely right about this watch, it's a reinterpretation of a vintage Seiko with modern elements it just works. I do like the date window and the end links they used here. But I really hope Seiko get their QC issues, especially alignment issues under control. I recently ordered a watch. The specimen in most reviews I saw had decent alignment. But the alignment on the copy I received was terrible although I specifically asked the vendor about the alignment prior to ordering it. The watch goes back and I'm pretty much done with Seiko purchases in the foreseeable future 🙄 By the way quite low amplitude seems to be common with 6R movements.

At 12:57 It looks nice on the blue strap and I love the look of the date window! I like how the date looks clean and out of the way, it's straight up, and we still have all the indices. What's not to love.

I've always been a fan of Seiko and I think they got a lot right here. Its nice to se them finally stepping up (or maybe this was a fluke) their QC issues. I have 2 Turtles, a King Turtle and a Steeldive (which is not a bad watch at all for the money). I love that case shape it, seems to melt into your wrist and disappear in a way you can't really explain if you've never worn one. I think they could have gotten rid of the date window entirely and a signed crown would be nice. But even with a 6R movement is it worth a grand, hmmm....I'm not sure.

I daily a SRPE37 and the white dial is my weakness. I'm wearing it now to go swimming in Lake Michigan and the dial is even better looking under water.

For a long time again a Seiko that I like and where I'm thinking of buying it. Since I'm not in a hurry, but I will wait with the purchase, the price is already very ambitious. I like the case and the hands very well and it seems that Seiko after the limited edition flood again seriously wants to sell new models that are not limited.

Thanks for this - it's helped me make a decision. I really like this one (including the date window 🙂) but I agree it's a bit expensive rrp. Discount hunting is part of the fun though, plus it keeps me away from loose women and whisky. Or so the wife tells me. Thanks again and take care.

The 6R35 movement is a weakness for me, having experienced 3 watches with it (I have 2 Alpinists and a white faced Shogun using it). Apart from the 70 hour power reserve, it suffers with drifting and weak amplitude (7:05 in, yours dribbles along at a fairly sickly 216 deg amplitude on your timegrapher). None of my 6R35’s can match a 4R35 for amplitude either, the only thing that is quite similar to the venerable 4R35 is the basic finishing and decoration. When Citizen/Miyota group are able to produce a high-beat 28800 bph, 68hr power reserve superbly finished and decorated movement like the La Joux-Perret G100, as used in the $749 Zelos Spearfish diver, it makes you wonder what a powerhouse like Seiko are playing at with charging a grand for a watch with a 6Hz iffy movement. I’m no great fan of the Swatch Group Powermatic 80 either due to its incredibly difficulty to regulate it, but at least it doesn’t compromise amplitude to obtain its 80 hr power reserve. There, I feel better already for getting that vent off my spleen!

I could not agree more. Seiko is falling behind with most of the watch brands with their outdated mechanisms. They are not the kings of value/price segment anymore... I wonder if the brand is worth buying anymore. Customer service is worse every day. Watches have poor quality control. A lot of issues that makes most people rant.

The powermatic 80 does reduce the beat rate to 21k as well though. It doesn’t seem to suffer from problems with accuracy due to position and how well wound it is as much as the Seiko 6r. I had to send one of my Seiko 6r35 based watches back a few weeks after buying it due to the timing accuracy being all over the place.

you have limited power in a steel mainspring: power reserve, amplitude or beat rate- choose one.

I think the land tortoise can be a good budget alternative to this watch. I know it’s not a diver but the shape the size the thickness are so close to this watch. I just bought one in black on a bracelet(srph17) and it’s wear very very good on my 17cm wrist.

Not sure it's worth it when they've had $700 Prospex "turtles" for years now. Too many Seiko models are getting uncomfortably close to Swiss pricing without offering Swiss quality movements or QC. What I want to see are the Armida A12 62MAS homage, and to compare with this Turtle reinterpretation, the Armida A13 Turtle homage.

Just ordered the SPB317 for £680. Perfect summer / beater watch. I think the date window design is great and particularly how they’ve aligned each date vertically. Seiko have knocked it out of the park with this. I’m personally glad they stuck with aluminium bezel - it is after all a re-interpretation watch so is sympathetic toward the historic design. Well done Seiko

I don't get the bit about the date window placement. Of you customize print a date window to rotate the numerals so they appear perpendicular to 3 and 9 for an offset placement already can't they also rotate the the placement along the wheel too? Don't they have infinite flexibility to place the numerals anywhere on the wheel and therefore allow the window to go anywhere along the wheel even between minutes? Why the the 31/60 issue - why can't the date wheel be printed with everything rotated even a fraction of a degree rotation?

You would have to really want this for the price, a king turtle on strap for £350 (loads of choice) and a MiLTAT bracelet £75 then save more than £500 for something nice… or for £20 more get a Al bezel Longines Hydroconquest…. for less Christopher Ward Trident Pro…. Or a Seiko Willard on bracelet for £800.

I bought the Slim Turtle SPB315J1 for just under USD 900. Dunno what got over me to pay so much for this piece. It's nice and all but for that price, I could have gotten some Swiss brand with better value ? 🤣

What do f and g do with the watches after they have lent you them? I hope they don’t sell them at full price as new? Unfortunately I have stopped buying from them as they refused to reduce the price at all for me even though they had just stopped selling the same watch for hundreds less a week or so before and they wouldn’t price match other authorised sellers. I have also been put off buying from Goldsmiths after they refused my cash back claim on a limited edition longines earlier this year. Now I just buy from who ever gives me the best deal.

Hi @murph I got a watch from F & G and it had stickers missing etc. It was bead blasted so hard to show marks. It did have big finger print mark on case. You could tell ot wasn't factory fresh if that makes sense anyway I kept the watch. Now I have noticed every youtuber seems to be getting watches sent by F and G, I suspect these are then sold as new! They should be sold as previous loan watches if this is the case. If this is the case and I suspect correctly they are getting free shout outs and advertising from youtuber who obviously all rave about F and G. The only loser is the customer that gets a used watch sold as new IF this is whats happening.

There are 5 things I wish Seiko would change. 1) and easy to fix, bezil allignment issues. 2) the pin and color they stick in many of their bracelets. 3) The janglyness of some of their bracelets. 4) they need saphire crystal on more of their watches 5) their new pricing structure - it keeps creeping up and they often make their more budget watches much more expensive without changing much if anything. I think this would be a great watch for a couple hundred less. I also wish ther bracelet used screw pins, and cannot recall if the crystal is saphire but at this price point it should be.

Just bought this watch. It’s absolutely gorgeous. My only gripe is that horrible crown, it’s very grainy and not smooth at all. Definitely very overpriced.

i bought 6seiko, 3turtle in 300$ , 2turtle(limited) in 600$ mm300 (1800$ & 3000$) and i feel very good feeling when using 300$&1800$ seiko. i would not wear limited version on street haha playing seiko is a cp shit, i would no more buy some seiko which very expensive

I don't find anything interesting about the looks of this watch, and the price is also not very interesting. But I must admit, Seiko did a good job... except maybe those indices, they do not look applied on your macro. More like embossed. A price cut, it seems, same as the alu bezel.

Low beat movement, aluminium bezel insert and awkward date position, nominal bracelet and clasp and they want nearly £1000. Sounds more like the description for an Ali Express special costing £100. Definitely a step in the wrong dierection. Just a comment, the audio on the watch review was very quiet compared to the indoor audio. Still think the clip on microphone doesn't do justice to your otherwise excellent reviews.Keep them coming 👍⌚😎

no value for money in this watch. re alignment, this probably owes more to f&g spending half an hour opening boxes to find a good one than an improvement in consistency by seiko. does look good on the light blue vario and black/white colareb though.
