I really like this one. It's light and has plenty of power. Ive owned that Milwaukee for years and it's my least favorite M18 tool. It's twice the price, underpowered and Milwaukee has had to fix it once already. I'll be using this Skil from now on. Thanks for watching!

If it’s anything like the rear handle as far as the cutting performance it’s a winner. I forced myself to learn to cut right handed because I prefer the rear handle style but a blade right sidewinder always feels more natural since I’m left handed. I utilize both though. A good looking saw man. 👌
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Год назад
It’s half the batteries but definitely not half the performance. This thing is pretty sweet. Because I’m right handed I love the left blade on the rear handle but also a light weight sidewinder. I’ve always been torn and never felt there was a perfect solution. Much to my surprise, out of the 3 circ saws Skil has sent I find myself using the 4.5 incher the most. It weighs nothing and handles plywood and 2x4s like a pro. Thanks for watching!

Skil offers a (corded unfortunately) left blade sidewinder saw that is a absolute beast. It is built with the same internals as their wormgear saws double wound motor and a Magnesium housing. I was seriously hoping for Skil to offer the XP in left blade configuration. Personally I do not understand why manufacturers do not offer a 7 1/4 in left blade. 98% of 6.5 inch, rear handle and wormgear are all left blade, why not 7.25.

I am a right handed carpenter and I prefer blade right saws for many reasons so this interests me .

Im also right handed and prefer a right side blade although I've never understood why. Probably because Ive used one for 30 years. Thanks for watching

Correct. Using a right blade saw, with your right hand, produces the least amount of dust. I won't use a left blade saw. There are a large contingent of people who don't wear dust masks, because American people don't care about their health at all, so they never even realized that a worm drive saw produces a huge cloud of dust that covers your entire body. You can test this yourself. After one cut on a worm drive saw, your entire body will be covered in dust--completely unacceptable (unless you run the worm drive saw with your left hand).

My dad's Skil saw from the 50s still works. After he used it for 30 years as a contractor Mine from the '90s was a piece of crap within the first year. Anything plastic was crap. Sorry, won't even look at them now
@starseeddeluxe
@starseeddeluxe 9 месяцев назад
It drives me crazy how people keep making review videos referring to Sidewinder "right blade" saws being made for left handed people. Note the beginning of this video, and which hand he is using to operate the saw (not the left hand). Right blade saws keep the dust off of your body, and the dust goes straight to the ground, instead of directly in your face. You can watch videos of right blade saws, and watch as the dust sprays straight down to the ground, away from your body (this video, the vacuum is probably clogged due to not having a "cyclone" dust separator pre-filter). Worm drive, left bladed saws are a left hand saw, because if you use them with your right hand (as 90% of people do) all of the dust blows back straight into your eyes, and many of the worm drive saws don't even a dust ejection port. You use a right blade saw, to keep the blade away from you, to expel the dust away from you.

It finally showed up on Amazon for 164. I held off buying the 2×20v rear handle In hopes that this is the one that would better suit me. My step son just got the big boy and it is a beast but for my needs it is more than what I will use. I have the Skil sidewinder and i have cut thousands of board feet but I'm looking for a battery powered unit. I was praying for a left blade unit but unfortunately I am left looking over my saw, again. How is the balance ? How did it feel when cutting? How did you feel after all that cutting? For Semi retired remodeling that is just looking for a main battle saw what do you think? I have Milwaukee, Dewalt and a few newer Skil tools and I am very happy. Many years ago I had a Skil wormgear that ruled the job site, still have it but after 30 plus years it is also about ready for the rocking chair. The sidewinder is a beast also but corded.. That is my main reason for looking at Skil, they have made me money and always performed. Thanks for the video brother.
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Год назад
Hello Randy! This saw is excellent. Balance is good and it was comfortable to use even doing all those cuts as fast as possible. The 2x20 is a monster and I loved that one too but it’s heavy and probably more saw than most folks need. I’ll have a short video featuring the available guide track once Skil sends it. Thanks for watching!
@starseeddeluxe

Do you have any long term updates about the Skil battery packs? I am nervous because the cost is so low, that the batteries might not have a very good service life. I had a horrible experience with Ryobi, where the batteries seemed to be used batteries. I purchased a new Ryobi saw, and the battery started to die almost a few months after owning the tool.
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews 8 месяцев назад
So far zero failures with the Skil batteries both 20v and 12v. I’m fairly abusive with them sometime using zip ties on tools to drain batteries faster for tests. That said I’ve owned many Ryobi batteries for years with no failures either. Thanks for watching!

I don't know if I'll be building those wings myself but Ive meant to install the Sawstop wings on my saw for a long time now. If I ever get around to it would you mind if I showed your pics in the video? It would be cool to show a cheaper alternative to the cast iron. Really nice work Mike thanks for sharing!!

Mike, another great demo! Hey, I hope you get many views as that must be $75 worth of 1x you used for demonstration. I had a skil first generation battery powered circ saw (I was repairing the coop). It wouldn't get through the rough sawn 1x pine I was using. That was a couple of years ago. This looks better. I may give it another shot. How much did you say it was going for?
@ProjectsForAllReviews

The reason why the dust port is not working as intended has a lot to do with the shape of circular saw which houses the blade. Don’t mind if I asked before, is this saw compatible with what guide?
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Год назад
Honestly I never really use a circ saws dust port in real life. Usually just go outside to cut. It’s been interesting doing it in the videos as some work better than expected. I’d call this one average at best. Your right though the square shape of the guard may have something to do with it. Keep an eye out for the track vid. I’ll make a short one when that comes available. Thanks for watching!

You mentioned that the Skil and Milwaukee saws are intended for different markets. Could you please expand on that?
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Год назад
Sure! Milwaukee tools are expensive and as a result intended to be bought by a different consumer than the budget friendly Skil. Not that pros couldn’t buy Skil or beginners buy Milwaukee. That said, tools in every category have improved so much over the last 10-20 years I think the line between homeowner and pro tools isn’t as clear anymore, which is great for all of us. Thanks for the comment!

I picked up this saw and noticed that there was oil coming out of the base of the motor area. Is this normal?
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews 6 месяцев назад
I see that with many of the tools I review. Usually assembly lube or too much grease applied I assume. Doesn’t concern me much. The Evo chop saw I did last week was leaving drips on the bench for the first hour I handled it. Good luck and thanks for watching!

I am freaking excited also 'cause this saw IS available here in Europe (Poland at least), I have their older brushless 20v model and I torture it almost every day for past year and a half 💪 I was sceptic to get their 40v saw due to size and weight but this here with 66mm cutting depth might be the answer. As you have both of them now, can you tell me if there's much difference speed-endurance wise in max depth cut while also pushing them, does this new 20vXP stall quicker if at all? How about accuracy? Also, you might have noticed the base on this saw is track compatible, sooooo... where is the track? I can't fing it anywhere on the web😁
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Год назад
Hello John! I was using the 40v early this morning to cut a green treated 6x6 for a Flex drill/driver vid. Have to cut all 4 sides and break off the 1/2 inch remaining in the center. That rear handle cuts like butter. No slowing and no struggling at all. Just went and made the same cuts with this saw for ya and it had no trouble at all. It does slow a little when it first hits the material but it’s very slight. I wouldn’t hesitate to spend my money on either. Skil tells me the track is delayed and I should get one asap when available. I’ll pop a short vid for the track when I receive it. Thanks for watching and hope this helps!

does it have kickback protection ?
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews Год назад
Nope it’s a regular circular saw. Safest way to use it is to support your material correctly and learn how to properly cut. Thanks for watching!
@starseeddeluxe
@starseeddeluxe 9 месяцев назад
You have to use a cheap saw blade. The $200 saw blades by Forrest do not have any anti-kickback protection. All the modern Diablo blades have anti-kickback teeth on them, and most blades sold today, except professional cabinetry blades, have anti-kickback "raker" teeth on them in between the cutting teeth, to prevent a bad kickback. You can see "raker" teeth on a chainsaw blade, and if you remove the rakers, it can cause a horrendous kickback on a chainsaw. They use the same raker (non-cutting teeth) on most circular saw blades now.
