Solar panel leases are a scam. It's just that simple. If you can't afford to pay up front and don't have DIY skills then don't do it. I installed my own, I maintain my solar panels and invertors and monitor my own system. I own my equipment and I collect the tax incentives and got rebates too. The panels and invertors have 25 year warranties from the manufacturer. I am my own best customer support/service. Why in the world would anyone want anything on top of their roof that they don't own and can't control? Way before the end of that lease that equipment is obsolete, and you are still paying a premium for it. Pay cash for them or just walk away. Don't let strangers up on your roof either unless you are up there watching what is being done. You could be paying for one thing and getting totally another. Not to mention, just how long do you think it's going to take you to break even on those panels? 10 years, 15 years on a 20 year lease? I broke even in 48 months. After that it was all gravy. And they are mine.

Yeah we got screwed mother in law talk to some sales dude , told her the panels would be ours I looked at it and said it's a lease ,they aren't ours ,whatever he convinced them (mil and wife),said we would get tax breaks (except we don't technically have solar since we don't own them) , and the monthly price would never change (bs)

So just yesterday, a guy came out to my house to give me a quote on solar power panels, with panels and installation and with inverters on the panels, they wanted to charge me 56,000 dollars which was payments of 186.00 dollars a month for 25yrs. I have more research to do, to me that sounds dam expensive. Because with labor and the cost of the panels, I cant see that system costing more than 18 grand with labor. Yrs ago I got a quote and the guy wanted to charge me 14 grand and told me it would take me 7 yrs to break even with what I would make. Also, the expensive guy told me that if you have to get your roof done then it costs 8 grand to take down the panels LOL......better off just buying a panel yourself and run an extension cord inside to power your devices

Wait did he just say that you’ll still be paying a power bill what about all those commercials that says your power company will pay you for power produced and the Power produced by the solar panels is more than you’ll ever use which is why they buy it from you. going by this there’s something shady going on

its a cam because the money you pay per month goes to what is generated by the solar, the solar company told me I am stuck with the solar because i sign the agreement. The national grid company still charge me for electricity every month and it can be over 300 dollars a month. Also I have to pay sunnova 85 dollars a month because of the solar generating power, but it powered by the sun so why am i paying them for solar when its being powered by the sun. Its not worth it.

Solar is not rocket science I’m a 86 year old DIY guy my solar farm is an ongoing project I buy 100 w panels because they are easy to handle I buy used panels and new as I can afford them. The panels are ground mounted for easy access for installation and maintenance . I am grid tied and now saving about 1/3 of my electric bill.
@samston
@samston 2 года назад
you probably bought them up front, but for the person that get the panels with 0 up front funds, you have to pay sunnova every month and still pay your electric company every month for the electricity bill.

Same here Leon. I have 2200 watts of solar ground setup. I found a panel manufacturer that produces a good quality panel. I purchase 2 panels at a time when I have the funds. I have a fully off grid setup that powers just over half my house. Just me and my 10 year old daughter. We know we have to respect our power storage. We turn lights off when not needed ect. We have electricity for stove and furnace but the rest of the home is all solar and we love it!

It is depending on your needs, the lease could be a better option. For me the goods are (1) Production guarantee and (2) 100% cover for theft, loss and damage. I know that you could see your ROI much quicker with a purchase, but you take on a lot of risks. The first risk is production. For months that your production is low, you are back paying the high rate for energy. The second risk is warrantee and home insurance do not cover for theft and loss. It is true that you are paying a lot more for not having these risks. So, it is more of a personal choice.

I loved the content in this video! But, I was able to arrange a 0% escalating lease for an Arizona family at 9.5 cents per kwh that the panels produce. This is in contrast to an average of 14-16 cents that they were throwing away per kwh to the utility company! They can definitely work and allow for homeowners who can't claim the ITC because they're fully retired with no liability to get the best deal. When in doubt purchase, but surely Unbound Solar is aware not all leases are bad?

If you don't get a battery system with your solar panels you are wasting your money. Even when my meter runs backwards in the summer I pay 150 to 200 a month in utility bills. Solar companies should offer battery systems in the estimate costing way more and be truthful instead of solar panels alone. It's a scam. It's like buying a car with a 1 gallon tank.

The solar energy concept is good, it is a viable, tested and proven efficient in giving energy needs and harnessing the potential of energy, its quality and quantity since it is tested efficient from experience. Its recommendable for consumers that does not ask much, yet yearns for its output/performance. It is efficient, and its a certainty, 2016-2022 onwards. SMEs....

There isn’t always a escalator, you could have a 0% escalator. Even if you have the escalator they are usually lower then 4% and with the rate of inflation the utility rates would still be higher then that of the rate of the escalator in the futures
@stevenvaanbroaden4451

Yeah but the salesperson selling the panels to you, won't be getting any commission on that, if your escalation is 0 percent.

No one is talking about the additional cost to remove and replace the panels when the roof needs to be replaced do to age. 90% of people ditch the panels when the realize that they have to find a third party company (which don't exist ) to remove and replace the panels. The roofers won't touch them and the solar panel companies will only install new systems. That is the cold hard solar truth that no one want to talk about. Sorry.
@trevorwesterdahl6245

Dear Lord... the ONLY reason for any lease is to use something expensive for part of its useful life... you are NOT locked-in long term/required to pay full price. If you lease a $40,000 car, you generally do it for a couple years. You might pay $900/month for two years. $900 * 24 = $21,600. Its dumb to pay that much, but you aren't locked in for more than two years. That is the only reason to lease... the ability to quit early. You don't have to pay $40k plus interest. A regular loan for 6 years @ 6%, no money down is $663/month. Why on earth would anyone be forced to make all payments (I.e. 6 years) and choose a lease vs loan... $900 vs $663/month? Only a moron chooses a lease when you cant get out early. No solar leases allow you to get out early... All solar leases are long-term/full price plus massive interest. They all charge more than a loan. They all open you up to liabilities (big deal). They all prevent you from selling off your home without paying the high price in full. They raise payments as you go (they aren't flat). If we want to get technical, lease payments are based on residual value... there is zero residual value for solar. Only a complete sucker "leases" a solar system. Its literally bone-headed and incomprehensibly stupid. It very much should be illegal. The only people who do lease solar... have been suckered... lied to. No informed person would lease solar vs a loan or cash. None.
