I love my Stage 2 upgrade. I went with the HD Torque cam. I had the Zombie baffle and rode about 20000 miles with it. The loudness finally got to me. I moved to their intermediate baffle. Actually gained some back pressure, hence performance. My gas mileage is great until I push above 78-80 mph. Then it suffers greatly. Great upgrade.
I have the TAB BAM sticks with zombie baffles along with a S&S head pipe and S&S 570 cam. In your opinion how much quieter did the intermediate baffles make it?
I did a Stage 2 Plus on my 2019 Tri Glide and couldn't be happier. 103HP and 130LB/FT of Torque. Tab 4.5 with Zombies, SE High-Flow Wedge air cleaner (to keep that stock look for stealth) a Jim's 818 Cam and Dyno tuned (screw the warranty). The "plus" over a standard Stage 2 is that I added an S&S Air Intake and got ride of that plastic stock POS one for better air flow into the motor. I also replaced the oil pump because the earlier M8s has oil sumping issues. Yeah, it is loud ... loud as hell when I get on the throttle, but it's not bad when I don't. The engine actually runs cooler. I don't care about gas mileage, but I still get over 40mpg. After she warms up a bit, at a stop light, the idle "lope" sounds incredible ... what everyone thinks a Harley should sound like. I can easily keep up with my club brothers on 2 wheels and when I take off hard, my front wheel will come off the ground nicely. Not bad for a 1200+ pound trike.
Super happy with my Stg2 in my 17SgS with the Reaper 465 cam. The responsiveness and power deliver, along with a better tone made it worth it to me. I recently added the rekluse clutch slave cylinder, and now I feel way more control of said power. Your bike sounds great, enjoy the "new ride". Still deciding on a cam for my 21 RKS with Fm header and TAB 4.5s.
Thanks! I will probably keep my SG stock. If I'm able to get another touring bike, I may do another engine upgrade to the Road Glide....it will become my muscle tourer
What a cool looking bike night man! Yeah, that stage 2 sounds real nice. I've considered a stage 2 for my FXDL but at this point I don't want to mess it up by pulling stuff apart haha. If I'm ever in a position to pick up a second bike, I'll definitely put in a bigger cam! I have a similar neighborhood problem. I have V&H ShortShots and my bike is pretty loud. People hear me from several blocks away. I really like my neighbours though, so I feel bad firing it up early to go to work or come home late. Lots of sleeping kids down my end. I figure I could use a stealth bike for those situations. Something stock and smaller cc. Keep up the good work brother
Sounds good Cue. Stage 2 really wakes up the M8 engines. I went all screamin eagle on my Road Glide Stage 2 with the torque SE8-447 CAM. It had growl but not too loud when cruising. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊✌️👍
I did the same stage 2 on my RG with a 107. I also have the Tab Performance w/ Zombie baffles. It was too loud for me on long rides. I ended up going to the standard baffles and it was too quiet. The solution was I ran 1 zombie baffle on the left pipe and a standard baffle on the right pipe. Worked like a charm.
I just ordered stage 2 for my 21 RKS, with the Screamin Eagle Cannon slip ons and SE tuner. In Cali, so I’m not to concerned about being to loud, we over regulated ! Hope to see the improvement you all have experienced. Tho the 114 has plenty of muscle already!! Ride Safe!
Agreed. My 114 in the Street Glide is pretty quick. My 107 stage 2 road glide is super loud. I am going to replace the baffles and hope that it brings the tone down a bit.
I have a SE447 in my bike. Has a basic SE tune flash. Pipes are Khromewerks "Hidaway" headers with Khromewerks 4.5" mufflers with the HP plus performance insert. Not overtly aggressive, gives a torque boost where needed, this is a mile eater bike. Biggest thing is it hits that sound sweet spot for me. Low base grumble without the high pitch pop. Not too loud but not stock.
Did all Screaming Eagle Stage 2 upgrades on my 2020 Road Glide Standard. I mainly did the SE in order to maintain my warranty as my bike only had 1K miles on it when I bought it. I've since put about 6.5K miles on it with absolutely no problems. For exhaust I did the HD Street Cannon true duals which really aren't that loud. For me this upgrade was exactly what I was looking for.
I have stage 2 on my 18 road glide ultra went with zipper cam and d&d 2n1 don't know the numbers its producing but it works for me be safe i enjoy your videos on wrenching
Thanks for the review, contemplating going with a stage 2 with my ‘23 RGS…happy with the stage 1 and Rinehart exhaust but like the idea of a little extra passing power
Don't know how I missed this video when you posted it but glad I ran into it now. Thinking of a Stage II myself and I definitely take MPG into the equation. I know some say be smiles per mile can't be measured but I also don't want to stop a lot more due to consumption. My problem is speed limits are 70 where I am and if you're not going 80-90 you're going to get run over, and that's where my MPG suffers the most. Oh well, guess you can't have it all.
Sounds awesome! I have the HD Stage4 and it gets going in the high rpm’s I’ve been considering the 30/30 or the next one up from Star Racing to replace it. I’d like to have the power come on a bit sooner being the baggers are 800+ lbs.
I'm toying with the idea of doing a Stage II, and I wasn't really paying much attention to fuel considerations so great you mentioned it. There are times I'm moving along at 80+, and so it's a bit unnerving to know fuel gets gobbled up pretty aggressively at those speeds. On a long trip on desert freeway where you might want to bullet your way along a different thought process might have to take place...LOL....you can go some distances before a gas station shows up out here in parts of the west.
The Star Racing cams are great. I put the 577 cams on my vtwin. Incredible results and sound outstanding. George Bryce knew what he was doing with these cams! 🤙🏻
Love your channel bro. Thanks for the info. Appreciate you. Bout to purchase my road glide and definitely do not want it stock. I want it loud. In NJ loud bikes literally save lives.
If you want loud, this is the setup! This thing is LOUD!!! I actually changed the baffles to tame it a little. I do alot of pack riding.....I'll get stuck in the back with a bike this loud
@@RidingandWrenching Thanks for the reply, and good point. I don't get invited to a lot of group rides. But if that changes, I will probably keep these and ride outskirts or buy a bolt on baffle for those rare trips.
I just did the stage 2 on my RGL 114, V&H slipon, arlen nes big sucker air filter and I took off the catalyst.. It was properly dyno tuned and its not loud... my cam is a S&S 465.. bike is amazing and luckly not loud.. it's a bit louder than before the cam and it has now a deep and nice bass sound... fuel econony is around 46 mpg crusing at 75 mph
That's awesome! Mine was super loud with the zombie baffles. I've since replaced the baffles and it sounds much better. My fuel economy sucks....but it has always sucked. I get abt 34mpg at 80+ mph. I'm guessing it would be better if I would slow down....I can't!😂
Awesome! My only regret is how loud my motorcycle became. I do a lot of pack riding, super loud bikes aren't compatible! I have since changed the baffles....now it's still aggressive sounding without ear piercing sound
Nice man. I just subscribed. I Also just pulled freight out of Southaven in my semi truck 🚛. I’m looking to get my first bike soon. I’ll have to stop by that location instead of Marketplace. Thanks.
@@Salih.EduBlock make sure you take the MSF basic rider course if you haven't already done so. That will get you on your way to enjoying life on 2 wheels!
@@RidingandWrenching Thanks. For sure I’m taking the course. My license is out of SC so I have to go back there into the Harley class so it will credit to the M endorsement to my license. Would be good if I could go out here since I’m based here while working in Memphis/Mississippi area.
That's cool that you have care and concern for your neighbors. I'm looking for slipons for my Heritage, and thinking maybe the Tab 2 1/2's. Thanks for posting this. Ride safe🤙🏼
I don't want my neighbors to hate me. I try to be really easy on the throttle going in and out of the neighborhood...I also don't let it idle in front of my house.
Im about to put the 30/30 as a stage 2 in my 19 CVOSG. I already have the Tab dual headers with SVT Bullies slip ons and I feel sorry for those behind me too, just not enough to drop several hundred on different mufflers or baffles!! LOL
Hey buddy, I have the tabs with zombies on my Road King and they sounded excellent with the stage 1. When I upgraded the cam to the S&S 475 it got quite a bit louder. I talked to one of the guys at tab performance and he suggested running a medium louvered baffle on the right exhaust pipe and the zombie on the left. It worked out great! Still plenty of volume and sounds awesome but cut down the noise. If still to loud you can just run the medium baffles on both pipes of course.
That's my dealership. Cool place. Wish I could get by there more, but I live 90 miles away. Bike sounds great, btw! Thanks for the info on this upgrade.
Put S & S cams and oil pump installed last year in my 2010 RG and first regretted it. Bike ran differently. Now used to it and like it. Much better oil pressure, but really don't notice huge difference in speed or torque.
I have a screaming Eagle torque cam and tab 50cals with the stock head pipe. I regularly ride with groups and no one complains about drone. I’ve even asked that specifically to a rider buddy of mine. Lol my victory with true duals and no baffles everyone complains about
That Cam sounds good… I’m actually considering Star Racing, Can you share your Dyno Numbers? And what made you choose Star Racing over its competitors such the S&S 475 or the Woods 22 XE?
I don't have the sheet with me, but I believe the HP number is 107, torque 115. I'll double check when I get home and post an update if those are wrong. To answer your other question, the dealer recommended this cam. I don't know much about cams and couldn't make an informed decision. I have a few guys at Southern Thunder HD that I trust, so I went with their recommendation. My only concern is the noise....the bike sounds good but is very LOUD! I am going to swap out a baffle and hope that resolves the issue. I am finding that my fuel economy has actually gotten a little bit better.
The right light is out. I have to check the wiring to make sure I didn't do something to it....otherwise I will have to reach out to Custom Dynamics to get it replaced. I also discovered that my right muffler clamp was loose!
I haven't noticed a change. It's possible that it's gotten a little better due to getting the bike tuned. Heavy twisting of the throttle would be the cause of lost mpgs
Stephen R&W is spot on. I installed a Red Shift 468 and got a dyno tune two years ago and actually increased mileage by one mpg. But when you open the throttle you can practically see the fuel gage go down.
Just got off my ‘21 RKS with that same 30-30 cam. Sounds amazing. Doesn’t it? Loud? Yeah. I’ve got a full length HPi 2-1 on mine. No baffles at all. Yeah. Loud. But sounds wonderful especially when wearing my custom moulded earplugs. Do you bother wearing ear protection? I would never ride without.
I share the concern. I'm riding to ST Louis this weekend. This will be the first test. I'll probably end up changing the baffles to quiet it down a bit
Thanks for the video it was really informative. I live in Southaven, MS. Maybe we can ride together sometime in the future. I put the stag II on my 22’ Street Glide Special and I love it. Bishop Kevin Willis, Sr.
i have the exact same set up for my 107 road glide. I have the 30/30 and the tabs 2into1 sitting in my living room waiting to be installed. I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind. What were the numbers you got? Did you do a cam chest and oil pump? What tuner did you go with?
I'm out of town and didn't bring the sheet with me. Seems like HP was just under 110. I think the torque was abt 115 or so, but I'll check next week when I get back. Yes the oil pump and cam chest plate were replaced
I'm curious to know if your engine feels cooler when riding. My 2013 twin cam dropped the engine and oil temps after I replaced the stock cam and had it tuned.
Bike night is every Wednesday night. I will do another video on bike night sometime soon. I put those clips in here (hoping to getting more samples of the exhaust sound)
I've been thinking about doing a stage 2 on my 2014 Ultra. Did you already have stage 1 or did they install stage 1 and 2 at the same time? Also, what about extra heat generated with the upgrade? Could you tell any difference in that?
I had only installed slip on mufflers prior to the stage 2. The only draw back to my setup was extremely loud exhaust. I didn't notice a change in engine heat. Given that I have new headers without a catalytic converter, it's probably running a little cooler, but I'll check and update that info a future video. I addressed the loud exhaust by changing the baffle in the right muffler. I'm very happy with it now
@RidingandWrenching Thanks. Mine is a 103, and I'd just like a little extra power. And I also like the little bit of extra lope with the cam. Yours sounds great!
That's a great question. I think it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Honestly, I probably wouldn't. Even the 114 has good power. The 117 would definitely be good enough for me.
Really surprised you didn't do this work by yourself. Bike sounds good. Seems crazy your neighbors mistake a motorcycle for "gunshots". Is it a retirement community or a gated community?
I didn't have time to do it. Plus I got some other warranty work done, so I let them do it all. Not a retirement community.....just not any bikers around, so they freak out with loud noise.
To quiet it down in neighborhood use 1 gear higher than should for the speed.....when I had loud bike I would come home at 25 in 3rd I would have no problem riding behind you, its a myth that it loud back there, its loudest sitting on top of those loud pipes......I can't take it, I keep pipes stock for my comfort, but I can ride behind straight pipes without bothering me in the least Not only is it safer being behind another bike but being behind a loud bike, loud pipes DO save lives......lotsa bright lights do too My brother and cousin big on loud pipes.......now they hardly ever ride, my brother always wanting to ride oneofmine......he has '89 and '13 Sportsters, both loud, and an old zuki with stock pipes he rides when he rides because he can't stand getting on them loud pipes
I can't ride behind straight pipes. It's painfully loud when they are accelerating and just as intolerable idling. My bike wasn't as bad as a straight pipe, but it was pretty darn close. I ended up changing the baffles which quieted the motor a bit....not stock level, but at least it is now tolerable. I agree that sitting on a loud bike is tough. The 1 road trip I did with this setup was miserable.
Well, there is another downside. The gas mileage sucks when yo go stage 2. I am regretting mine. I'm on a quest to improve it. I love the other improvements in the low end however. Just not the cam.
I haven't seen a drop in MPGs yet....but it's only been abt 3 tank of gas. If you're twisting the throttle heavy, then I would definitely expect a drop in fuel mileage. We will see! If I see a big drop I will post a follow up video
@@RidingandWrenching Isnt thats what its all about?....Twisting that throttle?,...I run all my Bikes hard....Whether its a Stage 1 or a 4....Running the Bikes to its limits...
When I installed the s&s 475 cam in my 22 LRS I noticed my fuel mileage went down because I find myself cruising at a higher speed. The bike likes to cruise at 80-85 now where I used to cruise around 70. If I ride is slow and stay out of the throttle is still gets good MPGs.
I would not feel bad about your bike being loud if I was the owner because it is a nice looking HD and it's got such a nice rumble coming from exhaust. Now, I do have a reason to feel embarrased with my neighbors with my Shadow phantom 750 with straight cobra pipes that I think are much louder than yours but it is just that loud as it is not fast, not a head turner and again it is just a commuter bike made loud for NYC streets and distracted drivers does not sound muscular and distinctive like yours.
Do I love it ? Yes. Is it worth it ? Absolutely No... Now the bike can keep up with a stock Japanese bike with half the price. At that price this "upgrade" should come with a stock bike. Harley taxes will always be bullshit.
