I just got me a bottle of this the other day and love it. I understand it’s not some peoples favorite stagg and it’s a bit lower proof than most others. But I loved it.
Great video !! I have to tell you I had Stagg for the first time about a month ago and I’ve been fortunate enough to pick up 2 bottles of the 24A. I absolutely love it !! I’m trying to hunt down at least 2 more !! 👍🏻
Agree on neck pours. I'm open to there being some difference but rarely is it drastic. Haven't seen any EHT BP around here (only single barrel) but might try to double up on 24A. Thanks for the comparison.
Just got one for $80 in South Dakota at a raffle Saturday. I was picked #5 Order of top 5 1. Weller 12 2. EH Taylor single barrel 3. Russel's 15 4. Old fitz 9 year 5. my Stagg 24A There was a ton of 1792 all varieties 2 Eagle rare, Mitchers 10 yr rye for $250 3 staggs
Honestly, the only bottle on that list objectively better than 24a is the rr15, and it is more than 3x the price so you did well. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I have the 24A and I think its excellent! I'm finding that I enjoy the lower proof. I have the EH Taylor small batch, but never tried the barrel proof, so I can't make a comparison. Always enjoy your reviews, Cheers!
Great video buddy! The same mash bill going up head to head! So I feel like Stagg was always beating Taylor. Taylor started OFC then lost it to Stagg and here we are watching Stagg beat Taylor
Lol that is a great point. Taylor is the Bottled-in-Bond king and stagg is the king of high proof bourbons. The way it should be. Cheers buddy thanks for everything 🥃
Definitely think there is something to the idea that it drinks a bit more like an EHT BP. I could tell it was stagg, but also felt like it drank off profile a bit. Not in a bad way to me. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I’m just trying to get a Stagg rarely comes around my area and I am not going to pay secondary. Maybe one day. I’ve had EHT BP and it is good so can only imagine how the Stagg will be. I don’t believe in neck pour. It’s not possible to get just the liquid in the neck unless you draw it out with a syringe or tube. I always let my whiskey sit for at least 10 minutes before I drink it. I do believe in whiskey opening up as it sits that is a thing. Enjoy!!🥃🥃🥃
Thank you! I hope you find some Stagg. I have paid secondary for Stagg once ($150) and I might do it again... but idk. Probably not worth it. Fortunately, it was my favorite batch. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I know it stinks that you can't find any Stagg, but let me tell you as someone that has drank at least 5 different Staggs, and probably at least that many EC BPs, there is little difference in quality, in fact I'd say I tend to prefer the ECs more, but that can vary by the batch for each.....my favorite Stagg has probably been 22A, but the EC BP A923 beat it imo
Interesting results, but not surprised! Secondary Value does not equate to better whiskey, its really just availability. Id probably chase Stagg more just due to price and easier to obtain but if there's an opportunity to get EHT BP at MSRP I would not pass it up.
Definitely agree. I wouldnt pass it up either. Especially since it is almost the value of a Thomas Handy and could trade for that! Lol. Cheers buddy thanks for everything 🥃
It is crazy how much is hitting. I am being 100% honest, that I have heard of it hitting at least 12 grocery stores in my area in the last month. It goes fast, but it is hitting everywhere in Arizona. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I hope you find em buddy. I will say 24a is supposedly the biggest batch of stagg possibly ever. You may have a chance! Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Really excited to try 24A. I’ve never seen a bottle of Stagg with a secondary $150-200. Idk why this irks me but why is it that all of the bourbon-tubers collectively underquote the secondary market. If I google Stagg right now every single option is $200-300+. That’s secondary market.
I use a website called Bourbon Blue Book. Check it out. It shows the last few batches secondary being between $160-200. My local secondary is much lower. There is NO WAY I could get $130 for a stagg locally. (Not that I would sell one anyway lol) Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Me too. I think it will be a total unicorn... but we shall see. I went to an event today. I will send you a pic of my haul. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
One bottle open at a time? People actually do that? I didn't think that was even possible!!! I think I have at least 30 bottles at any given time and at least half of them are open. Another great review video thanks YDB!
@@yourdrinkingbuddy I'm doing well, hope you are too. Right now I'm working my way through a bottle of Michter's Bourbon and 1 liter of Granddad Bonded that has been open for too long.
I really like it. It still drinks like stagg to me but as many have said it does have a bit more of the EHT profile. To me they are very similar. I did a blind with some friends and we did prefer RR15 to 24a, but we should when you consider price. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Off the top of my head... S Tier: 139.9 proof "Private barrel Sellect, 23a A tier: 24a, 17, 18, Frys pick B tier: Total wine pick, 23b C tier: Albertsons pick, 23c I am rating them on a stagg scale. They are all A or better whiskeys. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I’m with you….. EHT BP’s have not impressed me. But when I have a Stagg….. 😮. Stagg is just my profile I guess. I really like the EHT Small batch but the BP just doesn’t come close to Stagg for me.
23a, 24a, 18, 17, 15, 22a, are the best of the batches I have tried. I did a whole tournament if you are curious. ru-vid.com/group/PL6Y7YAampTbTbrxPOn4P1tw4mGNI5Uaus&si=kADPhlbgT8Lz5kv_ Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
Not sure it is better than 23a... but I think it might be much better than the other two. Will need to do some research I suppose. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@danielbanda999 I cracked my first bottle of Stagg in May. It was a 22B. Great pour but a little hot for me. I recently found a 23A and that thing was mind blowing. Probably one of the top 2 bourbons I've ever tasted. So much so that I went back the next morning and was able talk into selling me another one. Picked them both up for $110 each. Last week I was able to get 2 bottles of Stagg 24A at retail ($50). Super happy about that but haven't cracked them yet. Will do that this weekend. I would pay $150 secondary here in my area for a 23A if I ever find it again. If I had to choose 1 bourbon for the rest of my life, that would be it...
I 100% prefer Stagg profile to EHT BP. EHT is only more "valuable" because its only once a year. Its good Tater Bait. Buffalo Trace knows they're close because they're close in MSRP. Just my thoughts. I chose Stagg 23A over EHT BP Batch 9 in a non-blind comparison. Would only think a blind comparison would reaffirm that.
Neck pour is one of those folk superstitions that niches come up with to explain something away. Considering how ever-changing our palates are, it's just funny how much people assume any perceptible difference must be the spirit vs our imprecise receptors, or even adjusted expectations.
I have 7 Staggs and the most I have paid is 150. EHT BP is always 450 plus. I did almost get one for 300 but got to the store to late. If I can buy 2 to 4 Staggs for one EHT BP. Why bother.
@nathanwillems7214 national secondary groups are all over facebook and discord. Trust me, they can be had for 150 shipped to your door. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
I wasn't going to watch, simply because the chances of me seeing any of these bottles is next to 0. In my lifetime, I have seen 1 bottle of Stagg, and that was in a raffle. I obviously didn't win. In the end, I watched until the end, still don't feel like it improved my chances of finding a Stagg or EHTBP in the future, but thanks for letting me know what I am missing. As to not make this seem like a woah is me type thing, if I wanted any of them badly enough, I could pay secondary.
Fortunately, there have been a lot more Stagg released lately, which has of course put it in more hands, but also driven the secondary price wayyy down. They can be had for less than 150 fairly easily now. I hope you find one at msrp though. Cheers buddy thanks for watching 🥃
@@yourdrinkingbuddy true, and with the way things are going, we might only be a couple of years from having all of the bottles that are supposed to be on store shelves, actually on store shelves.
