That's actually wrong. Epic 7 there are multiple f2p in Legend and one f2p player is in the world championship main stage after beating several whales. You people only play p2w trash like mihoyo games and say all gacha is p2w 🤷

I see people complaining that the game is too greedy and calculating based on needing 180 pulls for every character. I think many people don't even know that there's a separate pity for 100 pulls that gives you a guaranteed legendary as well. From everything I've seen so far the game seems very F2P friendly, especially the Spiral of Destiny mode which doesn't let you pay for an advantage at all really. I hope people don't spread false info and turn people away from the game, it seems like the devs crafted something really good here.
Is not about the guaranteed rarity, it's the character. They have same rateup like other gacha nowaday 50-50 and the earning is lower than most gacha game out there. The only positive about this game is if people just want to get rainbow rarity irrelevant to the character rateup because individual pity is quite high 2%. But for those who chase after meta... @@VyanTan They already announced at the livesteam that they will be increasing the rewards for global. Getting every exact character you want for free is not a reasonable expectation for a free player to have in a gacha game. But I do think with the way the game currently is, if you're smart with your resources you can be competitive in the meta in this game. I know a F2P player on TW who gets top 95% on the PVP leaderboard. I hope you have fun if you do end up trying the game :)
@@thetaerdin I know that in other gacha game you can also be in top 100 arena being F2P. But the catch is you need to be lucky to get the meta characters, that's the only problem with pvp in gacha game. Knowledge about tactics isn't enough to bridge the gap between characters powercreep, that's why only a few F2P managed being in top 100. If people are unlucky, they should just be happy being in middle upper of the rank. It happens all the time for all those gacha with PvP, fortunately I don't really care enough about PvP so really not my problem 😂 It's still a shame they make double banner instead of separate though, imagine getting Beryl 3 times and 0 Col.
What is the point of 100 pulls guaranteed legendary? There are crap megatons of legendaries in the pool, 22? And in the future, everything will be throw in there so the probability of you getting the character you want is basically 0%. The only way is to go up to 180 pulls.
with gacha games I don't tend to concern myself with clearing the hardest content, if I can just get through the main story okay then I am good, and thankfully most gacha games these days allow you to experience the main story without investing in the top characters. I still pull on banners but only with the free currency the game provides me, I just consider it worth it to actually pay for the characters.
I think its time we let it out and say that any gacha game is p2w. Thats it. FOMO is the only reason why we are inhaling so much copium that a gacha game is f2p.

why cant you say its a free game then and not a f2p friendly instead? because you are well aware that theres a paywall for the other content available in the game. Also, you are not f2p. you invested months and years of your time so that you can access a content thats already in the game. You are literally paying with your time. If you think your time has no value, maybe perhaps, you are a f2p.
It really comes down to perspective. I think a lot of people could play this game fully free and have a great time. On the demo alone I was enjoying the Spiral of Destinies mode more than most games I've paid money for, and I'm pretty sure you can't pay for an advantage in that mode at all.

A game you don't have to pay to play in the first place is what is called a free game...a free to play game is a game you don't need to spend money in to play a majority ,if not all of its content...bringing time into this is shifting your argument... Cos in that case no game is free in the first place,since you need to 'spend ' time to play them regardless of whether you spend money or not. But ,you spend time on anything and everything...does that mean nothing is free?

The free to play friendliness just means people not willing to spend 'money' can get great enjoyment and feel rewarded for their time spent playing the game. Which this game and star rail offers .

I guess the discussion about Pay to win has shifted. To me, if you can pay for an advantage in a game, it's pay to win. Which means essentially every mobile game with monetization is a pay to win game. To me, being free to play friendly and being pay to win are not mutually exclusive things. But I guess in the context of a game like this, of course it's pay to win. I suppose time will tell about the whole PVP thing since apparently that's in the game. Just started out myself. But having played other games, I've seen a lot of them that have units where if you aren't a spender, you aren't making it out of silver rank.
nobody is gonna be playing this game for 4-6 months if they really think people care more about dupes over getting new characters. IMO, they could do away with the shard farming and just be more generous with pull currency. That would be better for most f2p and low spenders. its not about whether or not you can clear content with base characters, its about holding player interest. Only the truly dedicated f2p and low spenders are gonna be playing 3-4 months just to get enough currency to full pity a banner. A vast majority will drop the game cuz it gets boring playing with the same units for months on end. I feel like if they just took notes from Epic Seven, Browndust 2 and other games, this gacha system would be way better. Not to mention the fact that they have a pve and pvp endgame, the latter one requiring a big playerbase so whales feel that they are getting their money's worth from their maxxed out units and roster. If the game cant retain a healthy amount of f2p and low spenders, then its not looking good for the longterm health of the game.
You don't need full pity for every banner, that's the absolute worst case scenario. There's a separate pity that gives a legend after 100 pulls. There's a high chance that it could be the featured character (75% on double banners, 50% on single). So I don't think regular players would be waiting "months on end" to get new characters afaik, the devs have already stated that they plan to increase the rewards soon (possibly for global launch). The game literally start with you summoning 10 units by default. That already tells you how much gacha the game really is without any fake reviews. hard pass
($99 pk / 6,500 gems) = .01546875 cents per pull. @150 gems per pull and 180 max hard pity, that's .01546875 * 27,000 gems for a cost of ~417.65 per copy. Dupes give 50 shards. The character will start at 1* when 1st pulled. 2* requires 20 shards 3* requires 60 shards 4* requires 100 shards 5* requires 120 shards That's 300 total dupe shards needed to go from 1* to 5*. Total shards (6*50=300); so you would need 6 dupes pulls + the initial unit acquisition, which means 7 total copies are required to straight up max out a unit's star rank. $2.923.59 = 7 * 417.65 😅 oh wait, that only applies for a solo banner! More would be needed for a duel banner, because you have less than a 50% chance of getting the legendary that you want. If I'm thinking straight, a reduction from 50% to 25%, due to the dual banner, will increase to max total "worst luck ever" cost by 50%. $2,923.59 * 1.5 = $4,385.39.
Sounds reassuring. And I love how your pulls carry over to the next banner, instead of resetting your progress (like some gatcha games that I know. Not saying any names Epic Seven). To me, that's a sign that there are great things to come and we are in good hands.
Dont take this the wrong way since I know you just trying to assuage our worries in regards to the game, but I think any gacha gamer that thinks that ANY gacha is f2p friendly is kidding themselves. Dont lie to yourselves guys, they never are. Just accept you like a game with those weaknesses and continue on. I dont think its f2p friendly, and Im still hyped about the game. Why do gacha gamers are always in this quest to convince others that their new game is f2p friendly? I mean realistically speaking you get 1 char, spend 4 months maxing it out and by that time a new unit that completely power creeps yours is coming out. Or you dont have enough stamina to farm that last lvl you need for your unit, or you dont have a good enough weapon, etc. It is what it is. Being p2w doenst reduces its fun, we all just need to learn to use our money effectively. The indsutry will get better once this copium is out of the way.
There are actually a few very generous gacha games out there which deserves more recognition. Yes, I don't think this will be super generous but I am also pretty hyped myself.
Epic 7 literally dozens of f2p high Emp and legend players, one of the world cup participants that made it to the second stage on the hardest most whaly server is f2p (nezuko) keep coping hard.

However, my main problem is that in a lot of streamers Ive seen this type of conversation going on: if you liked fft, youll like this game because it has a f2p mode on it. That is high copium, it is ridiculous, and a very ignorant misunderstanding of the differences between real gamers and gacha gamers. A gamer wont like this: the story isnt as engaging as fft, the variety of builds isnt as extensive, you cant simply just replay or retry something out of a whim, characters are limited and the overall pve solo content we will be getting on release doesnt even surpass 10 hrs. Ask any real gamer to pay 70 bucks for a 10 hr game and theyll laugh at you, and people are trying to sell this to regular gamers because it resembles tactics?! I know this is just people wanting to bring others into their ecosystem to feel safe in that the game is popular, thats all it is. So my problem is only with that statement. Since I like gachas though, Im definitively hyped for this game. Just 2 hours to go :)
We need a kind of barometer to compare how f2p friendly a game is. I think Genshin would be a good comparison since it's so popular and has a similar gacha system. So, is it more or less f2p friendly than Genshin?
the difference of f2p friendly or not of gacha games in my experience: 1. the game focus more on pve content than pvp. it is friendly when the rewards of clearing pve mission is valuable, such as: good amount of free summon currency and shard system than can be gained from pve mission. even more better if the shard system can be used for any characters (universal shard or based on elemental shard, not fixed character shard) 2. pity systems. if there is pity summon and reachable if the player accumulated free summon currency in around 2-3 months, then it is friendly. because i believe 3 months is when you getting bored on your usual characters and need refreshment. some new collaboration or limited unit can be presented every 3 months 3. there is no banned characters on recent pve missions. imagine you hold your luck to get some OP characters then later be banned on the latest event because dev wants you to get the new latest character to do event :( 4. character and weapon gacha should be separated because it will reduce the percentage summon unit you wanted (as if you have that much luck on separated character-weapon gacha already) 5. games not focused on dupe character because you cant save summon currency for new character if you hope dupes when summoning from those points, i think Alchemist Code was a good example of f2p friendly until they broke the point 3 and ban certain characters for some events i havent tried the beta test yet but i am waiting for this game to release soon! kind of excited of this tactical game! hopefully it is f2p friendly
I just feel the gacha system is very bad. Compare to even predatory games like hoyoverse ones, they (SoC) are even worse. Imagine 180 pulls to guarantee a 5 star. At least in hoyoverse games, you get it around 70-80 pulls. You can get it earlier and guaranteed for the next. Here you can lose over and over and over again until you hit 180 pulls and that is a slippery slope. I faced it on my other account that I just threw away. I played wrongly because I got Inanna and I felt like need to keep that account, pulled her in 4 pulls in Gloria banner. I thought I could fish a Gloria out. But nope. Inanna, Teadon, Guzman. Like is the rate even 50%? Lol~ Then I make a new account. This time I made sure to get Gloria. Then I lucked out on 47 pulls for Beryl. Now I am just fishing for Col. Not guaranteed btw lol~ It just sucks. Not to mention the weapon banner is a no pity banner. So you can potentially be pulling your entire life and not getting a single 5 star if you are extremely unlucky. The weapon exp material is also scarce af. Imagine only getting 1.4k dust for grinding the radiant weapon thing. Might just quit if I cannot get Inanna/Col in their banner before end of this month. Not to mention, the BP is more exp compared to hoyoverse and what is this Col afternoon thing that gives even more advantage to p2p players? PVP mode as well. This game just stinks EA but it is not. XD But it is ok as long as I haven't sink a single cent into the game. I'll just play for free atm.
The pity is bad, but comparing with hoyoverse and saying that is worse is just a straight lie, especially when genshin launched, there was no soft pity, no beginner banner, free 5* ? Non existent. And the ultimate proof is the 0,6% rates,where even with pity higher 2% is way better than 0,6%. Also it has the weapon banner on hoyoverse, 75% to get the weapon, where in SoC there is the banner but you can farm the weapons playing, or dupes of characters. Just do the math even with 180 on average you Will get the character earlier than in hoyoverse games because 0,6% is shit, and people still defend rates like this.
I'd rather pay out a flat amount for a game with a story where i can enjoy the progression and natural grind. Games like Octopath Travelers or Sea of Stars. The last Gotcha game i played was Another Eden.
Good content Clint. PVP is where I see the obvious whales have advantage, but I think those with the right strategy will be fine F2P otherwise in other modes.
dupes/shards unlock extremely huge power spikes in characters, maxing a single character for free takes over 3 months, so 4 characters maxxed a year assuming you play literally every single day. Absolute yikes. Also 180 for a pity when you only get 50 pull a month.
I saw one of your earlier vids about how you really liked the PC client version of the game. Is there a dedicated client or is it just the one on Steam? I can't seen any info on a PC client version as on the website it just says stay tuned.
Maybe this topic needs 2 separate videos. How f2p friendly the game is and how friendly the gacha is. It seemed like you were listing lots of bad things. I don't think you mentioned the draw rate of featured characters, so I'm guessing it's bad. You said you need 200 pity to get characters while the game doesn't give much currency to draw. Then if you don't draw for dupes, you need 4-6 months to max them out... Does that mean you have to spend 4-6 months just for their shards and can't raise any other characters for 4-6 months? And you said that the packs are very good value and you'll want all the stuff in them. I think this game also has a weapon gacha that you didn't even mention. What is better about the gacha system in this game than other games, genshin, wuwa, hsr, or any other popular game.

Yes. The main PvP isn't your conventional PvP, however. It's kind of like playing a PvE challenge that was set up by another player, in a way. I have seen true PvP footage, but I'm not yet sure if that exists only under certain formats, such as tournaments, or if that is a daily feature. Someone else can provide more context there.
Ive only played raid and dragonheir in the gacha space, but i played those fully f2p and excelled. This game seems very similar. Everyone that claims games are p2w only arent willing to admit their own user error
People claim these games are pay-to-win because they are. Plain and simple. No matter how well you can do as a free player, if someone pays enough they can always beat you. That's just the basic principle on which these games operate. It's not a matter of anyone's opinion.
