Lots of gibberish about the appearance, but nothing about the easiness to build and the fitting of the parts. This video is a waste of time.

The fun part is that Revell kit was originally a Monogram mold.

Right???!!

The monogram now revell kits were the best 50 years ago. Tamiya kits are simply in another league. Almost perfect fit . Far more detail. The old kits are still fun. I like them both. But if i want an old kit , i would try to get a vintage kit. One produced in the 70' s or 80's. The molds were not so worn down. In your case i would use the extra Tamiya parts to improve the revell kit.

I've been building model kits for more than 50 years. When I started out in the early 1970`s Revell and Monogram were probably the best you could get. Airfix was not very good and Heller was the worst I ever built but did have some interesting aircraft & cars. I didn't discover Tamiya until 1980 and when I did I couldn't believe what I had been missing! So much detail and SO many parts. The problem was the price. Even then Tamiya was like twice or three times as much as a Revell and not easy to find. As I built up my skills over the years, I now find myself returning back to these Revell kits of yesteryear. Yeah, they don't have the hyper detail, and they have raised panel lines, poor fit, etc... But there really is something to sticking with these old kits and using your skill to pull off something really nice. Maybe it's the whole nostalgia thing, but I'm really enjoying the challenge and the reward. Go have fun with the Tamiya kits, hone your skills then go back and build an epic 1/48 Revell B-17`s or any of the the 1/32 Aircraft.
@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379
Ohh im definatly sticking with revell!! I love revell kits too! It is d3finatl a nestalgia thing. Im building the b17 right now and i have more on the way for you freind! Thanks for commenting hobby on!!

"Poor fit"of the Revell parts is the key, which is not even mentioned in the video and is a pain in the a**. The biggest revelation that Tamiya kits provided when they appeared on the market is that it is possible to produce almost perfectly fitting parts. Their kits don't need any putty, filing, grinding and paint to cover all defects of the kit, and it's not only the quality of the cast, it starts with the design of the mold. Tamiya kits are so much more fun to build.

You talked about the Revell box art, do you have a list or do you know all the kits with thay type of art? I'd like to start acquiring them. They remind me of when I was younger

Got to admit though both companies are failing with there instructions, should have full colour paint guides which most other do, even the smaller manufacturers.

I'm in the process of building a Revell P-61 Black Widow, I'm actually building a section one after having to trash the first one which was crap in fitting etc. Hoping this second one will go together better. Meanwhile I've built 2 Tamiya tanks that went together with alot less work and worry. I've ordered this same Tamiya F-4U kit. It should be arriving sometime this week.

Revell kits are great mate, Airfix these days are a LOT better however! Check out some of the new tool mouldings and decals. Tamiya seem to be regressing for some reason.

Thanks for the tips!

Revell is waste. In younger years i build a lot of them. My last was the SaturnV. And it was my last Revell at all! Hours and hours of grinding the edges... Was at least twice of the whole building-time! Tamiya it a lot better! More details, better fitting, and so on...

I generally don't like Tamiya kits: They have a lifeless feel to them that Monogram, and today Eduard, generally avoid. Tamiya accuracy is also not as great as claimed, except for this Corsair kit in particular, which is head and shoulders in accuracy above all other Tamiyas except their Me-109G and Ki-61. Best Eduard by far is the Spitfire range, best 70s Monogram by far is the old B-17G, which anihilates the recent HK in accuracy. Even the detail has more life to it in a metal finish...
@scaleresurrectionmodeler7379
Oh definatly agree!

What do you mean by lifeless
@wrathofatlantis2316
@wrathofatlantis2316 Год назад
@@blakewoo3174 Same engraved lines everywhere, with few or no overlapping panels, and thick or inaccurate canopy frames. Some are better, like their 1/48 Corsairs and the recent Me-109G-6. The J1N1 was not bland (many nice overlapping panels) but a bad subject choice (only one color, green), while the Do-335, Betty, Ki-46, N1K1, Mosquito, Beaufighter, D520, He-219 are all very bland kits, especially the Betty! Many of their more celebrated kits are just awful accuracy-wise, especially the P-47 canopy (on both styles) and the awful heavy framing on the Fi-156 Storch.

You people make me laugh. There isn't anything not accurate in a Tamiya kit, especially after 1993 or so. Fit and finish is always on point. The thing about their kits is that they leave it wide open to detail of you want...or not. One mentions the Betty bomber. That kit is from 1982 or so. Lol. Their dornier 335 is a great kit. Their 32nd aircraft are in a league all their own. Yes you pay more but the trade-off is a easy build, accurate, and a foundation for doing more. Monogram/revell kits definitely show their age but some kits are the only game in town. They tend to be challenging especially their century series of aircraft. But. They are the only ones who do a 48th ad11 Korean war skyraider and ad5s and the 48th helldiver. Everything else has pushed past that company in fit and build quality and accuracy.

The old monogram kit is ancient compared to the HK B17. It's not even close. You have to stand down and rescribe all the panel lines for one then switch out all the 50 cal because they songbook nothing like they should. I'll stop there.
