Jackie Wilson was considered a master showman & one of the most dynamic singers & performers in pop, R&B, & rock & roll history, earning the nickname "Mr. Excitement". He had a lot of great hits in the 50's-60's such as "To Be Loved", "I'm Wanderin'", "We Have Love", "That's Why (I Love You So)", "I'll Be Satisfied", "Lonely Teardrops", "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher", "Baby Workout", & "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" .

My Aunt and Uncle introduced me to soul music at an early age. My parents listened to country and western. This song reminds me of Aunt Sue and Uncle Curtis! RIP. I loved going to their house and dancing to Jackie Wilson, Aretha, Ray Charles,, Fats Domino,, AL Green, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, etc. I'm Caucasian and my parents were against me listening to this type of music. But I loved Soul Music and so do my 3 Caucasian daughters! Good music doesn't have a color! It's beautiful music!

The very first concert I ever went to was one of those shows back in the day that featured a variety of artists, with The Four Seasons being the headliners. It also featured Jackie Wilson. Believe me when I tell you, he was not called “Mr. Excitement” for nothing. He drove those girls in the audience (both black and white) wild with his splits, microphone twirls, etc. They let him end the first half of the show because NOBODY wanted to follow him. I mean NOBODY! By the way - What you’ve seen of him on T.V. is the toned down version of the way he performed live. I guess that the T.V. producers didn’t want the little white girls to get too excited watching him back in those days, or anything else considered “too black”. Unfortunately, that was the situation back then. It’s really a shame that we don’t have any real live performances of his when he was young. He was explosive. It left quite an impression on my younger self. I also got to meet him a bit later when he appeared in Harlem during a street cleaning campaign that we did to improve the neighborhood but I was really too shy to say anything but “hi”.
