WOAHHHHH!!!! Dude my mom has the 2017-2019 Escape with that 1.5 and it goes 0-60 in at least 8.9-10 seconds. Easy. Im gonna have to zonk ya there. And she does have memory seats. Another zonk.
I had a 2015 Ford Escape SE for almost 5 years. It died on me in mid March 2022. Now I drive a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. It is so sharp in black. I do feel comfortable in a Ford Escape because of the size of the vehicle. I used to drive a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 SES. When I was driving my 2015 one that I felt liked driving a Focus again. I just loved my 2020 Ford Escape.
I love my 2019 escape with the black appearance package. I have remote start on my fob and through FordPass. Not feeling the 2020, design front end wise and that new screen and the dial. Great review though
Oddly enough, I like it better than the "minivan" look of the 2019 Escape. I like the look of the RAV4 better -- but I like the features and ride of the 2020 Escape more.
I've been thinking about this for a while. Far as I know you're the only reviewer on this platform that has done this. Excellent! I'd go for a deal on the '19 if I was interested in one.
Zonk it! Thanks for making this video. I have a 2017 Ford Escape and love the 2.0 Turbo. You should create a Raiti's score and add up the total Zonks! Love it.
I have a 2018 Escape SE and I absolutely love it, love the roominess, the comfort of the vehicle, entering and departing is the best I’ve ever experienced on a vehicle. I can’t say enough about it. I haven’t found a thing about it that I would “ZONK”
*HUGE DISCLAIMER:* This only applies to vehicles that recommend premium (93/91) or midgrade (89), but require at least regular (87). This does *NOT* apply to any vehicle that requires premium, as using regular (87) in those engines will lead to very bad engine damage. I don't know of an engine that *requires* midgrade, but if you found one, then use at least midgrade in it, never regular as it could still lead to damage. So with all ecoboost engines, the manual says 87, but all MPG and performance test are done with 91, and they just detune the engine to run on 87. Just like a 5.7 hemi can run on regular and a 6.2 ecotech can run on regular but recommend midgrade and premium respectively. If you run this thing on 87, you're feeding a forced induction engine very combustible gas. While its certified to run on it, even the manual says to immediately switch to high octane (91+) if you start getting knock. It also states that in hot weather or if you are actually putting the engine under load to switch to high octane. While computers can compensate somewhat for using lower octane gas, it still amazes me they get away with advertising these engines are 87 capable when they truly are not. This is coming from a guy who has seen multiple forced induction engines get damaged from 87 octane. Okay say the little ecoboost scale similarly in fuel economy changes from reg to premium the same way the 3.5 in the f150 does. According to AAA (link below) the f150 gets 5% better fuel economy with premium. So lets take the 2020 with a 1.5 ecoboost awd. It gets a combined of 28 mpg. So this is tested with premium. Over 10k miles a year, on premium averaging 3.10 a gallon you would spend 1,107.1 in gas. Now in the test they got a 5% increase going from 87 to 93, so going reverse would mean 100/105x28 and you would get the epa rating for the same engine on regular gas. At 2.50 a gallon with 26.6 mpg, that would be 937.5 dollars. The difference in annual fuel cost would be 169.6 dollars and now you eliminate the risk of knock under load or in the heat. Side note, I know fuel quality has nothing to do with octane rating, but most 87 fuels have higher ethanol blended in compared to 91+. So while the physical octane rating has nothing to do with carbon buildup, the higher octane fuels have less ethanol and more detergents to keep it clean, since high octane fuel goes into higher stressed engines, so the gas station companies mess around with it less.
@@RaitisRides Forgot the link to the AAA article, it was late and idk why i was still up lol, anyways if you wanna look at it its pretty interesting newsroom.aaa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Premium-Fuel-Phase-II-Research-Report-FINAL-2.pdf
I sold and traded in many Ecoboost Fords. I have not seen one that had engine damage because of lower grade fuel. Ford actually has a very advanced knock detection system that can advance or retard timing on per cylinder basis within one combustion cycle. Engine destroying knock usually happens for 2-3 seconds and that's very many predetonations.
22 awd STEALTH. 💕 Good vid thanks dude! I’m new as older ones just looked cheap , plus my mom had one. Now I see these macan lookey that I couldn’t get stuck in the last good iowa snow storm I stopped on slick hills, was very pleasantly surprised. That turbo very responsive barely touch my gas
Not a fan of the 2020. The driver seating area is much smaller...the seats don't go back far enough. And I HATE the transmission dial. One of the dumbest inventions ever.
Hello Mr. Raitie, my wife and I purchased the 2020 FORD Escape SEL {Dark Persian Green} back in November based on your review, I personally wasn't sold on purchasing the Escape but for my wife out of all the other SUV's she was sold on the Escape SEL. Thank You & your Wife for the teamwork of reviews, and keep up the Hard Good Work!
We were looking for a new car and liked the Escapes. We looked at and test drove the 2020 and the 2019's. The 2020 was nice but we didn't like the front end, the center screen got washed out by the sun a few times and the engine lacked power going up a few hills. We ended up with a 2019 SEL Escape awd and have not been disappointed. Just a fyi.. We traded a 2016 Toyota Rav 4 on this. Ride, seating and handling so much better in the 19 Escape. Not impressed with the 2020 Escape.
Does the 2021 Escape driver seat sit the same height off the ground as the 2019 Escape driver seat? I'm not talking about clearance of the vehicle, I'm trying to make sure if I go with a 2021, that I'm not lower to the ground when driving. The 2020 and newer Escape's just resemble more of a car look and don't appear to sit up as high as the 2019 Escape.
U know what Joe I completely take it back I really do like the 2020 Ford Escape. 2019 is outdated. I know Joe that u did a review on the 2019 Ford F-150 Limited but would love to see a 2020 👈 Ford F-150 Limited in all White & spect out 😁. Thanks Joe.
I have the 2018 SEL FWD 1.5 and I love it. The 2020 is growing on me but we bought the Escape because it was a smaller SUV. A little bashing of the older platform but that’s ok. 2013-2019 just means the later models have some of the kinks worked out.
8:00 Prop rods work fine, last a long time. Everything wears out eventually. Struts last maybe somewhere between 3 to 10 years or so. Prop rods between, what, 30 years to forever? Anything Ford can do to improve reliability (and erase the image of "Fix Or Repair Daily") is fine with me. Not to mention the cost difference. Save the struts for Titanium Escapes, Edges, Lincolns, IMO.
Great comparison Joe! The 2020 escape is growing on me. Love that blue! Any word on if there will be an escape ST? That would be fun, especially if it was available with a manual (that's asking for a lot I know 🙄) Good job brother! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Hey Eric! Thanks for letting me share! There is some talking at Ford how an Escape ST is on the way. You better rub your luck rabbit's foot for a manual though.
I'd rather put up with Pep Boys vents on my '18 Titanium than that add on Pep Boys display sticking up in the air on that dash on the '20. It looks like they went backward on that one.
The 2020 dash is way better than the 2019. I kinda like the 2019 grill more than the 2020. Not excited about a 3 cyl. with cylinder deactivation. What’s next, a one cylinder that cuts off and you push the car to get max mpg’s? Nice 2 for 1 review Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
@@mfwhite1998 The 2.0L Ecoboost makes 245hp. Name another compact crossover SUV that makes similar horsepower. Escapes with the base engines blow. Escapes with the 2L Ecoboost have roughly the same power to weight ratio as the V6 Ford Utility Interceptors. Check the math yourself.
There are things that are not my favorite on the 20, but anyone who is saying the 19 is overall better either doesn’t understand card or are just mad they have a 19 and below
The inside of the 2020 is a million times better then the 2019. The exterior is growing on me and definitely looks better in person. Very roomy and drives great. Tons of headroom with the panoramic roof and I’m 6’7”.
Too bad they didn't have one with the "nicer" interior at this year's car show. I found the 2020 interior on the model on display to be crappy. Looks like an unfortunate exercise in cost cutting.
I own a 2019 fwd on sale, brand new with a 2.5 engine, first oil change the mechanic said your lucky , I said how come,? He said you have the better engine , no issues. Great vehicle so far, I feel safe, thanks Ford.
My Dad's 2016 Escape has the keyless entry that he said the 2019 did not. Keyless entry has been a bonus for Ford for many years so I'd be surprised if the 2019 didn't have it.
I accidentally (zonk) deleted my previous comment but I wanted to give kudos for an outstanding comparison between the two models. The review is very detailed and thorough. Worth the watch if considering one of these models. Excellent job.
I liked your review because when you took each Escape on the road it gave a good indication of how each performs. Overall I have always liked the previous Escape and even the one before that. At this time there are many Escapes when the lease expires and some good deals on Certified Fords. I am starting to like the new generation but I do not know about having a 3 cylinder engine. I wonder how reliable that will be over the years. Additionally given the problems Ford had with its dual clutch transmission used in the now thankfully departed Fiesta & Focus how will that hold up.? I remember when my friend rented a Focus and I have to tell you that the transmission on that vehicle was awful. Coming form a Saturn SL 1 automatic with its infamous Saturn "slam' the transmission on the Focus was even worse. It still amazes me that Ford for all their vaunted engineering could not be bothered to design a transmission that worked properly & was just as bad as one in an 11 year Saturn
Know how you can tell a 2017 Escape S from a 2018 & 2019 Escape S? The 2017 has silver headlights while the 2018' and 2019's are black. The 2017 and 2018 came with a CD player while it was deleted from the 2019's.
I sell Fords. Yeah, those keys are huge. But they are hard to break, tough ones. Also battery inside is CR2450, which is way bigger than CR2032, therefore lasts longer.
My money is on the 20 Escape SE Sport Hybrid, blacked out, no chrome, plus 40-41 mph. That blows away my 17 SE @ 19.9 mph. One zonk, please black out the rear difusser on the new models.
you pick up that blind date with bad breath and a escape and you already got two [stop/start] strikes against you. If you get her in the back seat no usb to charge phone will be final stop/stop strikeout.
An SUV with only 3 cylinders and a cylinder deactivation system that actually goes faster than a Smart Fortwo turbo 3 cylinder? Engines are becoming smaller, more efficient, and yet surprisingly still powerful. Gotta love technology!
All you need to know is ignore both of those crappy tinny cars and get a Mazda , or Kia Optima. I’d buy a fully loaded used Chrysler 200 AWD before any car in the class but talking about new , then Mazda or optima.
Hahaha inline 3 with cylinder deactivation. Yeah cant wait till that shit breaks down at 100k miles. Why in the hell do they make these pos motors. My 04 ford escape is a beast compared to these pos. 3500# tow rating v6 3.0 dam thing hauls ass.
Great comparison review Joe! Ford seems to be making all the right moves, injecting the best features of cars into their crossovers now that they only make the Mustang.
@@RaitisRides That would be killer! And the new Fiesta ST! They would both be a blast to carve up some twisty roads! We're getting screwed big-time!! 🤬🤬
Raiti's Rides, "... bring back the Focus ..." I love the 2014 SE Sedan (manual trans + Sport Pkg) I bought new, but it does not surprise me that Ford gave up on trying to sell their cars in this market. - They really shot themselves in the foot (if not someplace worse) with that DCT fiasco. - So few people in the U.S. want manuals any more (ST & RS ='manual only, as they should be IMO). - Can't compete with Toyota on reliability, nor Toyota and Honda in so many areas ... - More and more buyers (my wife included) seem to want SUVs/Crossovers, NOT sedans, AND those tend to be more profitable. Glad I got mine when I did, and I hope it outlasts me so I don't have to figure out what to replace it with. (Anything else on my short list today will cost at least twice as much as my Focus did.)
I would not take either of those, no turbo, no eco anything, last one I can accept is 2019 with 2.5L non turbo engine, it's actually made by Mazda, that engine will last long time, shame that in this comparison both cars are turbo, non turbo 2019 eacape wins every time, but not available after 2019.
2:22 and 10:49 - You making mistake brining that 2013 date... That 2019 Escape body style and interior came in 2017! 2013 was slightly different shape especially headlights! But overall interesting review, don't get me wrong!
Loved your comparison I have a 2017 ford escape titanium trim. Love it and runs great. I would have loved to get a 20/22 model but I wasn’t in love with the newer body style. My 2017 does have navigation and apple car play. I like that they raised the screen on the newer models. One thing I do hate is how low it is. Always have to look down to foLLow gps.
Great video! Been debating this one for a while and this video solidified the choice. Good humor with valid & direct comparison points! New Zonk Fan here!
The 2013-19 Escape is SO much better With the 2.0 and imo awd as well but you have to go with the 2.0 I wouldn't even consider an escape with any other engine
I personally think the new Ford Escape is really handsome. This might sound crazy, but I actually think the front end on this and some other Ford vehicles actually reminds me of some Aston Martin cars, particularly the grill and hood shape. Perhaps that's because Ford used to own Aston Martin. vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/jamesbond/images/e/ed/Aston_Martin_V12_Vanquish.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120914135333
Question Joe... If there were no 2020 Escape, and you were doing a review of the 2019 Escape, would you so subtly have denigrated it as you did in this video?
for some reason with this vehicle nobody wants to show a direct back view, its always on an angle. The 2013 looks weird from the back but why not show the 2020 ? I think its better.
Great review (as they all are). Darn, now I'm favoring the 2020 but didn't want to pay new car prices. I do hate that infotainment center placement on the older Escapes though. And, as a short person, the A/C vents in the 2013-2019 Escape are too high -- they will not direct to just my body and not my face.
Joe, my wife recently purchased a new 2020 Escape, and we love it so far. It's the 1.5l 3-cylinder, and it has more than enough power. She had test-driven the 2018 previously but didn't like it. She loved the 2020 right away, it's that much better to drive! Let's keep telling Ford they have to bring the new generation Focus and Fiesta hatchbacks. When it's time for me to buy my next car, it has to be a Manual Transmission or I ain't gonna buy it! For me, it's manual or nothing. And the Focus and Fiesta hatchbacks are my favorite cars. I still can't believe they decided not to bring the latest and greatest generations to the U.S. It's so sad.
Big mistake for Ford. Instead of evolution they killed the great Escape formula. How can you even compare the two? Looks more like a slightly raised Kia car. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PREVIOUS STYLE, YOU JUST WANT TO PUSH SALES ON THE NEW ONE. I won't trade my 2017 titanium for that thing. Hopefully they won't ruin the Edge!
Thought the same thing the dash does look better with the information in the 2018 I've got the 2018 escape AWD 2.0t trend in Australia they pull hard off the mark at 250hp does the new escape have gear paddles like the trend I have, only down fall is the fuel economy in the 2018 I don't like in the 2020 the info screen looks like all the other suvs (Kia) if only they could have it pop down or fold away out of view when not needed
Dude seriously, wish you were at dealerships everywhere.... no one has the fortitude to show vehicles like this anymore.... all dealerships do is sell you a car your interested in, fake the pre inspections, give you a shitty car wash that puts scratches, swirl marks, and scuff marks all over a brand new Fing car, then sell it to you ripping you off. Love the energy, motivation and emotional connection you have showing and selling your inventory.. Thank you!!!
skyhawk311, I believe he is an independent car reviewer, not an employee of the dealer. It's fun to watch someone who is enjoying what he's doing while making a living.
I think you should zonk any car or truck that you have to look at wipers when they are turned off. A nice clean uncluttered view out the windshield is a must imo.
I went in for the 2020 Titanium Escape, drove it and just felt like a big car. Didn't have the SUV feel. Saw a Sport SE that looked like a SP vehicle so we bought that instead. The interior I definitely like the 2019 over the 2020. Maybe next refresh they'll go back to what sells. The 2019 we got has the 19" anthracite black wheels with Continental Extreme Contact.
