The Z is certainly not perfect, and keyboard warriors that drag this car through the mud for being old and dated do make a few good points, but several years from now I have a feeling that many of us are going to wish we still had new car purchase options like this 370z.
That just it, though. There is no compelling reason to buy one of these new when it's been pretty much the same car for almost a decade with only minor updates. A good case can be made to buy a used one but certainly not new. I would certainly be interested in an up-to-date version of this car. Sports coupes are my thing. Unfortunately, Nissan just doesn't want my money.
This car’s interior is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a no bs interior with minimal electronic gimmicks; simple tech meant to last. That’s great for a sports car. But at the same time, the interior means they can’t get away with the asking price for these brand new. Tough sell. I’m glad it exists though.
@@liamnissanS2K s2000 costs around 25k-30k nowadays for a car that is 20 yrs old and probably have more than 100k miles. Not worth the price besides being a collector's car.
I've owned both. I put over 100k miles on my 370z and 45k so far on my BRZ. The Z was faster in a straight line and a bit smoother on the highway but I enjoy the BRZ a lot more. It's just a better drivers car in my opinion, and way more satisfying to drive.
I love the Z franchise. I fell in love with it when I first saw the 300zx. I do hope Nissan doesn’t end this lineup and grow the Z even better. It’s such a timeless car and the amount of aftermarket upgrades you can do to this car is a major plus
Well, coming from my Uncle, who retired last year from Nissan of 42 years, he said Nissan has no plans to make another Z anytime soon. Sad, but I think its because Nissan knows they can't make another N/A Z and make money on that car. The knowledge of knowing a small displacement 4-cyl turbo vehicle today, with a simple tune and downpipe, would utterly destroy a N/A Z in speed, would make potential customers go elsewhere if they went N/A, even with a 4.0L engine. Torque sucks on them, and tuning potential sucks. But if they made their next Z as a turbo vehicle, then you have to make its stock power potential high enough to compete with cars of its class, which would make it a $50k+ car, and then would start to compete with their GTR when people start tuning the Z. So why would people aspire to buy the GTR at its ridiculous price, when they could get a Z for 1/3 of the cost, and almost be as fast? Doesn't make sense. So they are now stuck with "what to do", hence why no plans to make one. What I would like to see is a 3.0L-3.5L turbo Z. I mean did they not make a freaking 3.0L twin-turbo Z in the early 90's called the 300ZX????? My friend has a 1990 300ZX twin-turbo, and it feels just as fast, if not faster, than my other friends 350Z. I won't mention the 370Z because the 350Z has been proven to be barely faster, because its lighter. Anyways, my point is is What Happened To The Z??? It went from twin-turbo, to N/A, and less fast. Yeah, the 350Z is a lot more capable than the 300ZX, but in speed, its just not. Nissan needs to find a way to make the next Z fast, but with tuning potential WITHOUT having to put $8k+ into it, but also making it just as capable and sports-car like, like the 350Z and 370Z are.
burnedtortilla I just searched available 370Zs on Nissan USA’s website, and the site is pathetic for a major car company. It seems like just another symptom of how poorly the company is doing these days.
The traction control being engaged is taking power from ur acceleration... when I test drove with and without it engaged, it made a very noticeable difference.
The nismo one is freaking gorgeous in white if you never seen it in person it is amazing. Vq is reliable. My old 350z sold it at 175k no issues I should of kept it. These cars will be future drift tax cars like 240sx
@@donzi3441 Great engines. My VK45DE has the same issue and I switched to royal purple and it litterly stopped. 2,000. Miles since I changed it and haven't had to add any.
I have a nismo. Although it's super outdated I will admit it is a huge panty dropper. For some reason women just love it. I don't see that with the 86.
I had a 2003 350 Z in glacier pearl. Drove it right off the showroom floor of Glendale Nissan in L.A. paid a mark up and was happy to do it. The Z was earth shattering in 2003. All that performace for under $30k. It’s still a remarkable value from base to NISMO. And yeah, it’s a sexy ass car. The BRZ and 86 that Joe Raiti has a raging boner for, as evidenced in this video, are not panty droppers. Joe has to talk up the car he bought his wife. After driving the Z he knows he made a mistake…. That’s REAL! You can hear it in his delivery. So defensive over the BRZ with its 205 HP. Z is still a sexy car and much better car than either the BRZ or 86. Period
This car is outdated, but it is really pure, fun to drive and it is very reliable like a Toyota due to the outdated style I'll give you a tip= THE MOST OUTDATED CAR = THE MOST RELIABLE CAR Toyota makes like several of them, like Tundra's and 4runners etc, but as for Sports cars, Yeah that is where Toyota fails me I don't want another truck lol. Also I like the Nissan V6 sound with a muffler and res delete. Usually I'm a V8 fan, but Nissan V6's sound nice and they have a nice low growl and rumble to it. This was one hell of a car I bought. I have a 2015 370z which was used too and I don't get any issues at all and it is as of now 2021 about to reach 140,000 miles ( I travel like 250 miles a day due to my job which involves business purposes ) So it is a very good car. Never fails me on those fun highway drives. 🙂
Love the Z car in general. 240z is one of the greatest cars in history. Sad to see the 370z get so much hate. Watch the 370z go the same route as the Mazda Miata when it went away and everyone wanted it back.
Yes. I regret buying gt86 instead of 370z. I got hyped when it came and got disappointed after a week of owning it. Its Really hard to overtake a minivan when im ON street
had a 370 in 2013. it was my absolute favorite sports car back then, dreamed of one before i got it. the exterior was future proofed well it still looks great, but my god i didnt really like the interior back then but now 7 years later and it STILL never got refreshed kills me inside. really hope they go through with a new gen cause ill be first in line if its good
That Z is lovely and the white really makes it pop out more, nissan needs to update the platform I know its been like 10 years but this is a bang for you buck with power
i have a 2012 370z and i think a lot of aspects of the car are outdated if you are looking to get into a brand new one. i think this is a good car for people that are into building a car and modifying things. personally would still go with my 2012 370 over a brand new brz, frs, 86 or whatever its called
I bought a magnetic black 2019 370Z 6MT with the sport package, for only a few thousand more than the base. The car is a total blast to drive, especially with the stiffer Hotchkis sway bars that I had installed. The only other sports car I would consider would be either a Porsche Carrera S or a Porsche Cayman GT4, although these cars are much more expensive than the Z. I agree that the gauge offerings could be improved. The digital clock should be removed from the 3 gauge cluster on top of the dash and be replaced with an analog oil pressure gauge. The led bars for the coolant temp and fuel quantity should be replaced with analog gauges. The car should have and additional oil cooler, as oil temps can get higher than they should in hot weather.
@@rukuscage9264 good for you stick with reviewing you M5 or at least a car that you own the 370Z yes while outdated by others its still the best bang for your buck sports car for the weight the power and the capabities it has nobody matches it.
How come your testing the base z with no BBK not to mention no 6 speed??, I would never get those slugs brz or 86, I had my 370z sport package manual for 7 years and indeed it is one of the few sportcars that has a raw sports car feel. With suspension springs and forged wheels car handles well. These vqvhr engines as well as the previous vqhr engines which I also had break in at over 30k miles and they perform and sound better than when I purchased new. As far as sound a high flow cat and full catback exhaust will fix that, mine sounds like a mini GTR. Love my 370z hope Nissan produces the z35 soon, I will be the first in line.
I owned an HR 350z. Love the car and always will appreciate Z’s, but as an overall sports car the 86 platform outshines in my personal opinion. They aren’t the fastest thing in the world, it’s a momentum car, like everyone says..corners are where these cars shine. Overall package, 86. As a track car in raw form? I’d take a Nismo for sure.
@@travisstrange4680 I would take an 07-08 vq35hr today over those shitty 4 cylinder boxer engines, I just had a full HKS catback exhaust and that still sounds better than my current 370z which has a high flow cat and exhaust lol.
I was trying to decide between a 370z and an FRS when I was buying my car, after driving, even though the power was quite a bit more in the 370, I had more fun with the FRS, it feels lighter, a little more nimble, and more fun to shift in my opinion. While I desperately want more power in my car now, I still stand by my choice.
Oh bro the Nismo is amazing. I had an frs with full bolt ons and I decided to switch over to the 2018 370z Nismo and the handling is so good. With the extra 150hp it leaves Frs-brz in the dust.
@@trentmclellan1037 nah man it still handles really good! 3 people I know had a BRZ and within 2 years were tired of it. The Z is amazing, this coming from someone who now owns a new Miata, I would rate 370z first, Miata second, and frs last although all good cars if you want light get a Miata, if you want straight line and pretty damn good handling get 370z, the frs is just in this weird middle section where it could be lighter to feel faster, or needs a super charger. Frs was a money pit, Miata is lighter and faster in both corners and straight line.
The 90-96 300ZX is without a doubt the best designed Nissan ever. I like the 370Z, but it has never been as special as the 2nd gen 300ZX, especially the TT. I am very much looking forward to seeing what Nissan has in store for the Z in 2021 or 22. It still is a tremendous performance to dollar value.
@@RaitisRides I have seen rumors that it will also utilize a TT V6, so what are the chances of Nissan doing that? Hopefully it isn't like the first gen 300zx, when it was refreshed. They totally watered that one down, until the 2nd gen redeemed it.
I think it is better than the 86 right now, more power, faster 0-60, and also it looks fun to tune.dont get me wrong, the 86 is a really fun car, but the 370z is better currently with better numbers
The MSRP on that particular car is $33,385 on their website. It really isn’t a $30,000 car unless you are factoring in the massive rebates available on this car because they can’t sell them.
Well it survived for 50 years. So it means it is reliable. So I dont care about infotainment system, 'cause that is for people who dont like compromises. Me I will buy this car ofcourse a manual version.
When I was in middle school and saw "If Looks Could Kill" 1991 movie, I wanted that gorgeous 300ZX so badly (and Gabrielle Anwar but I digress). 300ZX to me was one of the best looking shape cars of all time. I don't think Nissan did justice by producing the successors, 350Z and 370Z.
I at one point too had to make this decision between these two cars (and the Subaru WRX as well I was considering). When it came down to it, I chose this car because it its just more raw power and more what I'm looking for out of a sports car. I thought, if I'm gonna get a sports car I want to go all out. The BRZ / 86 cars are fantastic but something about it just feels like a sporty car, not a true sports car at least to me. So for me personally, although I do hate not having more seats and maybe more space and all that the 86 offers, I still am happy with my choice. What do I recommend? Well you're here watching the videos which is great, but why not just go drive them? Test drive both and see which one you want! One other tip I can give, really the best way to choose is to figure out what you want in a car. Do you want a car that'll throw you back in your seat and can give awesome pulls. This car is more in that department. If you want more raw power and a higher horsepower ceiling for tuning and more mods later on, I'd wager to say this car is better for that too. But if you want a car that's a bit more practical and just feels fun to drive, the 86 might also be the better choice. Really just drive both and see how you feel about it. Overall I'm super happy with my decision of choosing the 370z.
I Know its about wanting the newer car but to be honest with you joe id pick one of these up but from 2009 with the manual to get it cheap plus nothing much to worry about reliability wise, plentiful parts. Most likely for under 9Grand or so.
It is incredible that Nissan thought a review of this car would help sales. They obviously do understand their product and what their customers actually want.
@@elieberro5731 still happy I bought the Z. I love how the BRZ looks, but I think as a sports car the Z is the better choice. Very versatile car, you can do anything with it, autocross, drag, drift w'e it can play well in all fields. I take good care of my Z, but I drive it like I stole it, and it handles it just fine. Winter months I have snowtires on her, can't grip for shit but very easy to drift and control drift. Get the Z
well, it's outdated by today's standards but at least it doesn't have fake vents and it's 100% Nissan. Unlike the Toyota/Subaru - 86 and Toyota/BMW - Supra.
2021-22 is going to be GREAT for new affordable sports cars...new Z car, GR Corolla, new BRZ/86, WRX, STI, MK8, etc...can't wait to see the videos on those in the future!
Though it’s older, I still love the exterior design of the 370Z. And I would think about buying a 2020 Sport if I could get a great deal on it, except that interior is just terrible. It’s hideous, and the great exterior design and N/A 6-cylinder engine just don’t make up for it. Shame on Nissan for not updating the interior a couple times during this model’s run.
I remember the 280z. It was an excellent car. Wouldn’t purchase one in white. Red or blue with the black rims is the way to go. Read a lot of the other comments. Most people don’t like the interior. It’s not all that bad. The ride didn’t seem all that bad for a $30k sports car. Excellent review as always 👍
Man I really wanted to like the 350/370Z. The styling is great and the power is fair... However this car lacks soul. I looked into these vs FRS/BRZ/86. Faster does not mean better. If you want fast coupe then the Z is a good option, if you want a raw sports car that you can grow with.... Get the 86. The 86 has SOUL it's one of the few cars left today that exists for driver enjoyment. The 86 platform uses fun, engaging, handling as its ingredients to create a tasty small plate of food... It's art. The Z takes power, style and comfort to make a buffet style meal that leaves you satisfied but not impressed. That being said, I still enjoy seeing Z's on the road and they will be loved for a long time.
Has Nissan actually confirmed that this is the last year for the 370z? Nissan has not shown any indication that they are actually going to replace the 370z this year or anytime soon for that matter. The magazines are the ones saying this car is being replaced by a 400Z. Nissan is in so much financial trouble it wouldn’t make sense for them to release a new low volume sports car before adding a different more profitable vehicle. Do people think the 400Z is just going to magically appear out of nowhere ready for production? That never happens. It usually takes most of a year from when a company first shows a vehicle to when it is actually released to consumers. Nissan hasn’t said anything about a 370z replacement yet.
I agree with you the Z32 is the sexiest car built when I was a high school kid which is why I have one in my garage. The 370 is a great car but an embarrassment being both the 40th and 50th anniversary edition for the Z. Buying one new is the dumbest thing you can do as a 10k loss is had the second you sign the paperwork. I am excited for a new Z35 with the VR30DDTT . How they will call it a 400Z goes against naming the Z car by liter since it’s creation. But what do I know we live in a world where the Supra is now a BMW.
FYI the Sports Package rolls in a decklid spoiler and Rays Forged 19" Wheels plus auto rev match on the manual so you do not need to go Nismo to get the spoiler. I hope they do not mess with the styling too much when they introduce the next Z car as the current styling has aged well IMO.
I'm definitely a Nissan/Infiniti guy. I can vouch for the drivetrain. Pretty much bulletproof. This model is good as an entry level modding platform, although even I have to admit that the interior is really dated.
Had me at, "I love a nice sized rear end" 😈😈😈. Thanks for the granola bars and snickers candy puns as always had me giggling. Good one Joe. I've always love the Z cars with the Fairlady aka 300ZX being my favorite of the bunch.
The only reason I can’t go for a 370z is the interior. Something you’ll see the majority of the time. Been deciding on a 370z and a 86. Thank you for the video!
I watched a video all about the history of the Datsun/Nissan Z. It was a nearly 30 minute video and by a British man, so now I can't stop calling this car a Zed instead of Z lol
The most performance for the money. If you buy cars for the electronics, this may not be your car. If you want a true sports car that gets 0-60 in 5 seconds, will pull .99gs. and a available 6sp stick for $32,000 out the door then it's worth a look.
Seriously comparing the T86 & BRZ to the Nissan 370z. Way more potential and at top end the 370z will leave them for dead. 0-60 time is 5 sec to BRZ 6.8. I think interior is budget as mechanicals you are getting a superior vehicle.
