Definitely out of the competition the Veloster n has the best exhaust sound. You get to hear the pops and bangs coming out a 4 cylinder turbo stock which you don’t hear with others. Other automakers in this class of cars make great looking exhaust tips but you get no sound. Hyundai did both I applaud them for doing so
So glad there are manufacturers out in the car world still producing vehicles like this. The colour is awesome and that manual gearbox is a rarity today. A smart choice for those looking for something different and with performance at a reasonable price.
FOR REAL!! i despise the companies that are bending over for the green weenies to dictate what they can and cant produce id tell them to take a freaking hike, theyre only virtue signaling and bullsh*tting everyone thinking killing the i.c.e. is gonna improve the environment. vehicles are a tiny percent of a percent of a percent of the polluting things on the planet, forcing the i.c.e. to go away is the most bullsh*t thing ive seen them do and that is saying a lot
Hi Joe, I've been a huge fan of your channel since 2 years ago. I'm from Korea who loves watching car reviews and you, sir, provide high quality review and pleasant content for car enthusiastic. Your clear pronunciation of English really helps for Non-native English speakers to learn more about English. Please keep up the good work =)
Joe, after a hard day at work, sometimes all I need is a car review like this to put me in a different mindset. Your energy and positive attitude is contagious. This vehicle looks and sounds like another winner for Hyundai. Thanks for reviewing this one.
My 21 year old nephew just bought the 22 N and I must say it's great! For a 21 year old. It is very boy racer. I will take the comfort, luxury and performance of my 22 GTI Autobahn ! We are a hot hatch family that is for sure!
If I wasn't planning on keeping my'21 STI my next vehicle would be a Hyundai. My wife's Tuscon Hybrid is great. I think Hyundai is one of the most exciting manufactures right now and they are highly attainable for most people.
This might be the last year for the Veloster N... I love this car so much, I bought it twice! I got a 2020 manual right now, and just traded it in for a 2022 DCT.
@@dballz9779 I’ve been reading recent forums, and people have been calling dealers trying to place orders for new VNs and they are staying they have stopped production.
That's nuts! no wonder I can't find any. I feel like it's the same for all hyundai now. Same elantra N and Santa cruz unless they have a crazy added markup
I know everyone has own tastes and are subjective, but as an owner of this car, it's an absolute blast to drive. If you value "driving" and fun above all else, well...it's something I would strongly consider getting if in the market for such a vehicle.
@@TheRealJohnWack I'm looking to upgrade from my old Scion tC. My hopes were lost on a different vehicle, but now I found this. If I'm not into racing and all that jazz would you still recommend this vehicle?
@@lavapop1900 Imo... absolutely. The customization is really nice. Can go from normal more "subdued" mode to "all out" with a button push. I don't track mine at all, or any intentions of such, yet it's still a blast on city streets. Doesn't have a premium interior and ride on normal is "firm" not harsh, if that matters. It's absolutely worth every penny for me personally. Definitely a really fun hot hatch and memorable vehicle with personality. Hope this helps. Blessings.
The 6 speed has the same torque as previous years (260), the 278 torque is for the automatic transmission with its overboost function that allows for more torque for a few pulls
I got mine on Monday in performance blue I’ve had bmws it’s very bmw like in the handling like the old ones you can tell the BMW m guy designed this car! That exhaust sound in n mode never gets old.
I bought a slightly used GTI recently and I've been happy with it. After owning a really flashy sports car I wanted something fun, practical, and a bit more understated. The Veloster N seems like it would be a really fun car, the claimed 0-60 times are super quick for a 275 hp FWD hatch. Like other people said though, good luck finding one for sticker price.
The MK8 GTI and Veolster N PP have identical 0-60 and 1/4. It was only faster than the MK7. I still prefer the MK7GTI/GLI with a single ECU tune over the Veolster N.
@@sharktin240 I feel a lot more comfortable tuning a GTI than I would tuning the Veloster. Car and Driver puts the '22 Veloster N at 4.8 vs 5.1 for the '22 GTI but the rolling 5-60 is the same, could be down to tires. I have a mk7.5 and only plan to do a stage 1 tune and better tires.
@@GC-nd1lp Yes but the 4.8 vs 5.2 and 13.6 vs 13.4 is just a matter of either tire or better launch. If you notice they both trap 105 in the quarter which tells me The VN isn’t really faster. Also not to forget the MK8 is a base model GTI while the VN is their top performance hatch with preformance package. The club sport and golf r are both faster
@@sharktin240 I think that would be a little too loud for me. After a few years with a car that was almost too loud for hands free calling I'm enjoying the peace and quiet lol.
Excellent review Joe! u nailed all the great points & negative ones. I own a 2021 VN in black (DCT) the fake vents really were a bummer but the car is such a neck breaker at meets / cruises. The active exhaust w/pops is what sold me on the ride itself. Look forward to more reviews! cheers bro
Cannot go wrong with that shade of baby blue! Love that color! I really think I'd go with this G-Ride over the VW GTI/R... I think maintenance for the Veloster would be much cheaper. I speak from experience. Had a 2019 R and currently have a 2015 TDI Sportwagen.
Performance car of the year in 2020 is a big achievement. I love my performance blue Veloster N manual. One of the best bang for your buck if you’re and enthusiast. Great review.
@@lavapop1900 10000% lol. I own one and love it so so very much. if you want pure straight line speed then no. outside of that if you wanna have fun threw some turns, or just spirited driving this is the car. or the Elantra N
@@lavapop1900 2 years late but I never put her on the track, all fun and smiles from work and the way home, definitely stands out no matter where you are so many people ask what the hell kinda car is that I've never seen one before and it's the perfect opportunity to blow some minds especially with the 3 doors I've fallen in love with
Joe could you do a side by side comparison (looks, interior, 0-60, sound , and exhaust) of the 22 Veloster N and 22 Elantra N (both dct/mt) ? For people who are not sure which one to get? Thanks!
Looks wise, veloster. But overall id take the elantra, better interior. Blind spot pretty bad in veloster. Elantra N has a slightly bigger turbo. And a bit more practical and spacious. I liked it alot.
Hey Joe just so you know you can find oem looking REAL vents for just about every fake vent on the VN. They're also cut to each vent and easy to install.
@@RaitisRides I agree. You can also change out the seats, center console arm rest, and e brake to Alcantara which are all made by hyundai for an oem fit.
Anyone who owns a VN:. Yames Design has functional venting (out of Toronto Ontario) very very very clean work. Yames designs. Just a bit of extra goodies
From a previous Sonata N-Line owner of a few months, be carefull with this brand and do your research. The fit and finsih is subpar to the German competition and I had many issues with my vehicle. There going to wow you with flash and looks but be carefull on the decision you make. The competition has been doing this decades more then Hyundai and it shows. In the end, its your choice but wanted to give some feedback from a previous N-Line Owner. Great review as always Joe.
I have the 2012 version and a lot of what he was saying is true about that one too. I’m glad they’ve made some improvements though. She’s unique and gorgeous.
Great review did drive the N and the GTI ...i mean it the N is a better faster drivers car....and than there is the design....really love it...after a lot off plus and mines i did go for the S3 butt for daily use..i still wander..the S3 is a bit to sporty...ps..i did go for the actif shocks...but now i look at your review i have that funny feeling 😮😮😳😳
At 50 i did want a bit more car..less racy...less HH but now after 2500km...i think i made a mistake..the S3 saloon is a nice bit off kitt but the running kost ppppffff here in Holland we pay giff ore take..2.50 euro a liter and fore daily use thats a lot..plus all the kosts....but the bottum line is.....i miss the oempf...that HHFeeling..and most off all the gearstick....being more one White the car...and YES...the N its a fare better drivingmachine than the GTI...i did drive a mk 5 mk 6 and mk 7 GTI ..butt i think THE KING is dead....long live the King...and can i ask...please review more V8 powermachines...by stuppid green rules there almost banned ore insean kostly like 100000 and even up to 200000 fore a superfine 500GT ore a very nice camaro...again..great channel great reviews...and very nice camworks from Lori..we ( me and 4 sons and some friends ) watch almost every show....and yes....Come to europe...go to Zuffhaussen thake a GT ore RS and go to The Green Hell ...you Will remember it fore the rest off your live 😮😝😱
In 2019 I looked at a GTI and the Veloster N I bought a 19’ GTI in Candy White, Rabbit edition. I have since moved on and traded that Rabbit for a 21’ GT PP1 Mustang which I love. I became bored of the e GTI’s performance. Great car but not that fast… I had an APR tune that took me from 228 HP to over 300. And that just gave me mad wheel hop so I traded it for the Stang. With gas out of control and really no end in sight, experts today predicted CA will be over $10 per gallon within 3 months. I’m in SC where’s it’s $4.60 for 93 right now but $10 per in CA puts me at $6.50 in SC. So, I have to ace the Stang because it ain’t going to stop anytime soon. Could be years considering the recession we are entering. With that, I’m shopping the new GTI/R or this Veloster N or the Elantra N. I drove the Veloster the other day in this Performance Blue. It’s an awesome color but kind of too showy at my age…. However, I could get it in black! Or the Elantra N in black. I don’t dig the front end of the Elantra N. It is haggardly Fugly. But black hides the front. These Hyundai N’s sound amazing!! I can’t believe I am considering g a flippin Hyundai! Awesome cars
I *might* choose the GTI over the Veloster N, but I would choose the Elantra N over both. If the Kona N was moved to the current generation/interior that the VN & EN have (AND if it had a manual), I’d buy a Kona N literally today.
Oooooooooh myyyyyyyy gaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwd!!!! Bro the Veloster N is one baaaaaad mamma jamma of a hot hatch!!! Look at this thing!!! Listen to that exhaust!!! Oooooooooh myyyyyyyy gaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwd!!! Joe, Imma need you to put this one on an expedited Massachusetts bound transporter please and thank you very much!!!
Hey Joe and Lori, and also the Raiti's Rides family, how are y'all doing today? 🙃 Thanks Joe and Lori for this interesting review about this 2022 "baby blue" 6-speed manual Hyundai Veloster N. Anyways most people know the Hyundai Veloster N for being a "cool" unique 3 door "fun" hatchback from Hyundai. I'm not going to go in to go in that detail about the Hyundai Veloster N because that's why you made a video and that I'm not that well educated about the Hyundai Veloster N expect that it's a cool ass (sorry for the bad word 😅) 3 door hatchbach. Anyways what is your favorite hatchback? Please let me know 😁 (Btw nice blue color and nice sports seats. Also I love those red accents, plus it still have a manual. Oh and this have nothing to do with the car but the "new" Genesis GV80/G80 and the green Hyundai Santa Cruz do be looking good)
@@RaitisRides No problem Joe or Lori, but both of y'all shouldn't be saying thanks to me. But to the Raiti's Ride family that is almost at 750k members (around like 2,000 and something left for 750k) So I'm just going to say congratulations in advance and I knew that Joe was giving me that "cool" teacher vibe, but I didn't actually thought he was a teacher.
Wow!!! What a package ! Love this I would take this over gti any day … love small hatchback ( former owner of a 1991 Honda crx si miss that little rocket 🚀
This car reminds me of my old CRX and EF hatch. It feels just like them in size but you have tons of power and limits. That you cant even reach on the streets. So far im loving owning this thing maintenance is cheap car is well built feels sturdy and complete and comfy.
I ordered a 22 M/T ultra black Veloster N back in november. I got word that it is finally at the port. so friggan excited for it! all hyundai accessories added 37K out the door. they actually went through with no mark up as promised thats what I was holding my breath about. Im so pumped! Ive watched all you VN videos at least a dozen times each. and this one came out perfect timing. I live in Maine so I need a front plate. Should I have the dealer drill it normally before it gets shipped to me or leave it untouched and do the sort of more agressive to the side relocated mount under the front N logo? JW your opinion. Ive only ever seen an R-spec and tried a base volster. Never an N in person. Ive got a really good feeling I wont be disapointed tho :)
Hey what's happening Joel it's awesome hopefully I'll buy one but they've discontinued it now they've the kona N and the eletra N and thanks for sharing your videos with me & I've purchase a 2020 Hyundai veloster turbo r spec I've changed out the Mufflers and exhaust tips it's loud enough for me with all the pops gurgling and burbling especially in cold start and I've changed out the spoiler N I wish they added another 49 horsepower in my Hyundai veloster turbo r spec 👋👍🙂♥️
I "ordered a 22 M/T Ultra black VN on 11/11/21/ 37k out the door. takes 4 months but well worth the wait. its at the port now so pumped to be getting it shipped to me soon. there are dealers that wont mark up if your willing to order it and wait. a lot of dealers wont even let you though. closest dealer I could find was 450 miles away
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀Good Vehicle Joe! I think it's a dandy of a car. One thing about the VW GTI and the Voloster N, neither hatchback is perfect.
In my mind, the Veloster N is the choice for enthusiasts looking for a more pure driving experience, who don’t care as much about how nice the interior is. And maybe they prefer their car be a little quirky. The GTI buyer might have a little money to spend, want a nicer car around them, and a more comfortable daily driver. Both are great cars, but personally I’d go with the VW. By the way, Hyundai’s N blue color looks much better in person. I’ve never liked it in photos and videos, but recently saw an Elantra N in that color and really liked it.
I will tell you, I agree with your assessment… I had a 19’ GTI in Candy White, the Rabbit edition and I was shopping a number of cars then, including the Veloster N. (Which wasn’t as nice as MY 21 forward, better seats etc) I traded the Rabbit after a short period of Time as I got bored with the performance…. I just drove one of these just last week, in the Performance Blue and it’s an awesome color. The N sounds way better and is def faster than the GTI. At my tender age, the GTI suits me and my profession a lot better. 10 years ago, I would take the Veloster N , in this blue over the GTI all day long. Since it’s such a great car, I have a big decision to make…. That color kicks ass though. Looks good in black too as it kinda calms it down
I have a 2021 in PB...Such a fun car to drive..and I only drive it with the suspension in normal..otherwise way to harsh..great car for the money..I was hoping Hyundai would expand on this car and up the HP and torque. However seems it will go away, but we shall see. Awesome review!!!
This is a nice car for someone who is looking for something fun but not 50k something that's right and I like how Hyundai give you all this power for good money and can't wait till you get to 800K subs have a good day yall. 😉
Hey what's happening Joel I've tested drive the 2020 Hyundai veloster N it's was the performance blue but I purchased the 2020 Hyundai veloster turbo r spec I've changed out the Mufflers and exhaust tips it's loud enough for me with all the pops gurgling and burbling especially in cold start and I've changed out the spoiler N I wouldn't put the Pepsi in the cup holder it will spill all over & it's get all sticky & thanks for sharing your videos with me 👋👍🙂♥️🍵
I love the Veloster but hate that they now only make the top trim level, i'm assuming this is because of the chip shortage they are only making their most expensive cars?
I considered one of these when I was looking to sell my Focus ST. Ended up buying a 2017 Focus RS loaded up. No regrets. Plus I’m a ford tech so it just made more sense. But the all wheel drive makes a world of a difference in the winter. So RS had much more going for it. Plus I feel the interior was better, and offered more quality of life features. The N is a cool interesting car but, not for me. My heart was set on a RS I guess.
Wish we would have gotten the i30 N and i20 N instead of the Elantra N. Hatchbacks will always look better and be more practical then a sedan, you can always convince a sedan buyer to buy a hatchback but its hard to convince a hatchback buyer to buy a sedan.
I own an Elantra N in performance blue, but I still think that the Veloster N is by far the best looking N vehicle. I almost bought it used for looks alone.
Hey what's happening I've purchased a 20022 Hyundai veloster turbocharged N and yes Joel it's a six speed manual transmission but it's a used car chalk white
I'd take this car over the Mk8 GTI, which is loaded with annoying cost-cutting to go along with some modest performance improvements. The Veloster suffers from that that interior, but then again, even though the materials aren't exactly premium, everything fits and works and doesn't look like crap after a couple of years. Functionally durable.
The elantra n may have better tech but the veloster n has much more character and is a head turner plus you will always stand out cause there aren't many out there. The elantra n is great but it still looks like a normal, small family car. Not to mention there like a million elantras on the road already lol.
@@RaitisRides Trading my VN for an EN because of this. More refined, more tech and all the fun/speed, also somehow a lower MSRP right now?! EN/KN also have a larger turbo and more tuning potential on the factory turbo than the VN.
I'm worried about you, Joe. I mean, your obsession(?) with prop rods. Especially in a three door car. JK!! Great stuff, Joe. This car offers so much bang for the buck. Cheap thrills! Quirky and fun. That blue paint is just awesome.
