Is the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge a luxury electric SUV that's WORTH it? 

The quality in the interior is way better than other EV's.

I’ve driven both the XC40 Recharge and the Model Y, I much prefer the way the Volvo drives, especially on the highway.

great review! I've had mine for about a month now and it handled Vermont winter/snow storms without any issues. Even on the all seasons! Such a smooth ride and you feel planted to the road and safe on the highway.

When Volvo puts out an EV that looks like a Swedish fish, I'll buy it :-). I currently drive an XC40 T5 Polestar and I love it. When they get the range issue fixed, I'll go electric; I do the NY to DC trip a lot and 220 miles isn't enough range.

Great review as always by Joe and Lori! Got one of these last year after cross shopping with Mach-E and Model Y. It's in a class by itself... smaller, sturdier, stylish, and quite powerful (versus long range trims). Infotainment could be more sophisticated, but we are very happy with it and it keeps getter better with OTA updates!

I'm not sure if you've done this yet, but I'd love to see a Range video where you review EV's that have a long range that are worth considering.

Just bought one of these as my first EV, excellent one. Here in Brazil it costs R$ 400.000 (or US$ 85.000).

I don't think the EV acceleration will ever get old, at least not in my Model Y Performance. :D We actually ordered the Volvo C40 for my wife, so I guess the answer for us on which one we'd choose between Volvo and Tesla is "both!" Hopefully the C40 will be a good car for my wife. Please do review the C40 when you get a chance!

Short answer, yes. Long answer, yeeeeeessssss. Everything from the cab design to the exterior to the smooth acceleration to the ease of navigating to the interior features to the freaking built-in garbage can makes the XC40 Recharge superior to its Tesla counterpart. The only things they need to improve are the available frunk space (at least enable a couple grocery bags to fit) and the single charge battery mileage (over 300, please) to get my signature on a purchase.

I just ordered the single motor P6 version of this car. The P8 is really quick but the range is really bad if you put your foot down as in 120 miles bad. The P6 is much more efficient and you still get 0-60 in 7 seconds which isn't exactly slow!

With heightening gas prices, more buyers are now considering EVs, so range makes a lot of sense for long trips

For long trips this would induce too much range anxiety and for that reason going with the Model Y - especially if I was going to drive all the way to New Delhi!

Tesla model Y no longer qualifies for 7.5k tax credit. This is the biggest bang for the buck. Once I get a house with a garage, I'm digging this XC40 recharge. Maybe do the subscription that volvo has and then outright buy it I'm in love with it.

i just ordered one. and now i just have to wait for at least 8 month but after tryed the volvo a couple of times , i think its worth to wait for it.. super nice car, and with 407 hp in scandinavia its gonna be fun 😁

volvo xc's are nice! their gas engines are under-powered though, so it's nice to see the juiced it up with the EV version.

JJ ~ say what? small EV SUV? is this the future? meet George Jetson. 2 motors ? ! ? ! that typically means = faster. exterior - I dig it too. it has nice lines. every Tesla I've ever seen in person looked cheaply built & plasticy. pano sunroof = yes. 402hp > writing the check now, lol. interior - gorgeous. I like it - well done : )

Volvo got style, but they did keep their classic front style. Very sleek and compact. Looks good for a long drive and the price is appropriate for Volvo. Just wondering if they are built as tough as the old-style Volvos. Not buying a Tesla everyone in NYC seems to have one I always wanted a Volvo for city driving.

nice suv, but too expensive for the milage you get, 220 when full in winter means you'll get maybe 180 , needs min. of 270 miles at full charge.

For the price Raiti, I don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze on this one...exterior not bad but that infotainment screen is relatively small and looks a little outdated because of how the bezel appears.. for that price I would go with mid-level Mercedes or something

Great review, and I agree, I owned Tesla before, my brother is a Tesla guy through and through, but I’m not convinced at all with the quality, and I’m frankly appalled at their low level of customer service. Tesla won’t even buy back their own cars (here in BC Canada, and they have only one dealership in the province and no coverage for their emergency road services past the Lower Mainland) , all that should tell you something… This Volt is definitely a contender for the Tesla Y, looking at AWD (dual motor), interior space, great range, torque, a more familiar interface and also it seems to handle the torque well (I remember the 2021 Chevy Bolt was swerving all over the place if you would put the pedal to the metal, even though the 2022 is much better, it’s still a bit shaky). Yes I know, the Bolt is not a luxury vehicle, just making a comparison….and, this Volvo might seriously outdo the German Luxury EV’s …I think your review showed everything really well!
