Is the 2023 Mercedes AMG E 53 a better sport luxury car than a BMW M440i? 

My wife and I have the ‘22 AMG E53 with the HUD and same interior shown here. Went with the white exterior because we like white. Love this car. I refer to it as “The Beast”. It can be as bad as I need or calm and comfortable. Absolutely don’t regret anything at all. You did an excellent review here. It’s one you should be proud of.

This E53 is in a class of it's own. You can tell how MB incorporated the old S-coupe styling into this car, especially from the rear and side profile. What a beautiful vehicle!

I'm not much of a Mercedes fan normally, but this is a beautiful car in an absolutely beautiful color. It's a great size with great power. I would take this over the competing BMW or Audi any day of the week. Today is my birthday and I bought some Powerball tickets, if I win, I'm going to the local Mercedes dealer and telling them Joe Raiti sent me. Wish me luck! 🤞

To answer to your questions this amg E53 Benz is absolutely amazing vehicle I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants it yes indeed no doubt ❤!

A nice convertible in that color too cold have the top down maybe down in Florida where it's warmer besides California and Hawaii.

Mercedes-Benz is one of my all time favorite car brands. So much history, innovation, safety, tech, and style. This E Class convertible looks fabulous in AMG form and this color pops. My only zonk is that you can easily spec this to go over $100K. For a little bit more I can drive away with an S Class.

Looking good drop top style my man! This is the last of its kind. Mercedes will no longer offer the E class coupe or convertible with 6 cylinders. CLE replaces this with a 4 cylinder. I would buy this over the M440/M4 and Audi. But then this loaded is touching $100k. for that price, M850 convertible is better - faster, V8 and looks more unique. Only bad thing about M850i is the lack of massage seats. No clue why BMW does not offer it in any 8 series model. Tough decision.

A few weeks ago, I took delivery of the E53 coupe in black with the same interior.Looks awesome and is beautiful to drive. The BMW has better performance but that's not what this car is about, even though the 0-60 is closer to 4 sec than 5 sec. Its about the luxury and "feel" of this car (and hopefully, reliability which should be much better than BMW and probably Audi). It IS heavy but its more nimble than I thought it would be. Perhaps, "nimble" isn't the right word...lets go with "tossable". If I was going on an hour or more drive, this is the car to take...hands down.

Isn’t this way more expensive compared to a convertible 440? I think the M4 is the comparable price point.

My dream car was a MB SL 63 AMG. Also had a thing for the SLK AMG. Unfortunately, Mercedes does not make the SL series, maybe this would suffice.

I own a 2021 E53 wagon, I have had trouble with the 48v hybrid system, but it seems ok now. There are a few recalls on these, I think I have had 3 now for various things. Overall the car is exceptional to drive on the highway, its great on gas on a long drive, I can get 1000 km out of a tank which is about 621 miles.... I love the interior, the dash with the single big screen gives a real feel of luxury. I do not like the run flat tires, the suspension hits bumps very poorly. I compared to a BMW 850i recently and it didnt hit the same bumps nearly as harshly, but honestly the BMW screen etc didnt turn my on much, the Merc is nicer....... the 850 is more car overall though and I love other features better than the merc, it felt overall just like more car.. hard to explain, but that might be my next purchase !! I love my E53 wagon though... Thanks for the great review of the E53 convertible Joe !!......... Also these are not the fastest car on the road but they are quite quick..

I think Mercedes has the best of both worlds. Class and performance. For daily driving, the Mercedes has the edge over the BMTroubleYou. The Mercedes just obliterates the BMW with the interior. I don't know why BMW can't get it together with the interior.. Yes, I do agree with the side curtains in the front. They need to get ride of the plastic and do a wire mesh. Yes, the silver trim around does look nice and they should have matched the door handles or just done the handles with the flush handles instead. I'm surprised they went with an in-line 6 instead of a double turbo V6. They might have gotten extra HP and Torque and a more gutsy exhaust note.

Nice sounding engine. And the 4-Matic does an incredible job of getting the power to the ground. If only they could reduce the weight. I know AMG tuned it, but you can't beat the laws of physics

The 6 cylinder sounds great… my colleague has a cls 53 and it reminds me of Beamer’s b58 I’m thinking that spec is about 105k

This is a great car but in my opinion, it's just good, not great at many things. For the same price, I went for the M4, but if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of speed, my choice would be the Lexus LC500

Mechanics say its a lease and release car because its so mechanically complex. In addition they warn that you can't really take it to a non-mercedes repair center due to its complexity.

Since you've driven both, I'd like to know which one you'd choose and why. My wife has a C250 and I drive a 428i. Love the way it SEEMS to drive, but I wonder if it feels faster or slower than the 440i. Thoughts?

The exterior look doesn't feel much difference from the normal E450 coupe , does it? 🤔 🙁Too bad the E is still using the old info screen. The new interior of the new C-class looks better IMO

Beautiful machine! ...but does it really need both grille and hood ornaments? The grille star is way too big and looks like it impedes ail flow.

I can't believe the trunk underside isn't lined with felt. All German cars usually are.

M440i is not an M car, it's a M package car. You have to compare this with BMW M4. Obviously BMW outperforms in speed and handling. Even that comparison is only based on price range cause 3 and 4 series are equal to C class. AMG E is basically 5 series mid size but M5 destroys any E.

Nice review. M440i is about 25% cheaper in Germany. I would prefer the green BMW M440i RWD that you have reviewed over this one.

I remember when I first saw the Kia Stinger I thought it had a dash that looked just like this Mercedes, and when I saw the Hyundai Santa Fe I thought it had a center console that looked like this Mercedes. Nowadays, when I see a Merc with this interior, it makes me think of the Korean cars that ripped off the styling. The gap between basic and luxury brand is very small these days as basic brands try to be more upmarket/expensive and luxury brands attempt to become more practical.

This car definitely hard to see at night when its daylight and signal lights are same place.
