Agreed. Firearms don’t belong to one political party. They belong to all Americans.

Firearms are NOT an issue! The Second Amendment is NOT an issue. Crime and politicians are the ISSUE!

Dig into who actually abuses firearms, commits the most crimes with them and constantly tries to take them away from citizens.

They're no politicians who should be allowed to say or do anything that infringes on our constitutional rights

I'm an independent but I have been very pro gun and 2A all of my life. I even have a couple very liberal friends that are actually very pro-gun despite their other political outlooks.

I personally know a democratic legislator that hunts deer, deep in South Texas. He confided that even though he doesn't agree with his party about the 2A, he is forced to tow the line period. Like Trump said, "If there is something I commend about Democrats, is that they are very unified when it comes to vote for a law or policy".

Question…. Anyone that screams for gun control or restrictions… I would be willing to bet there is a gun in there house. Or have they had there property stolen or been a victim of crime. Gun control only takes guns away from law abiding citizens. Criminals are criminals they don’t obey the law

My neighbor across the street and I choose not to talk specifically about our politics, mostly because of our opposing views, but we do talk a lot about on what we agree, our mutual interests, including our affinity for guns

Both parties were long ago coopted. We need a party of decent American citizens independent of current established government.

Sorry, but look at every vote at both the state and federal level, and then tell me that, in general, Republicans, although far from perfect, are not much more supportive of firearms rights. It’s not even a contest. That didn’t used to be true, but we live in the present, not in the past.

The Democrat Maine legislature just passed, and the Democrat governor signed or allowed them to become law without a signature or veto, several anti gun, anti 2nd Amendment laws without a single Republican vote.

More Elementary schools , saying 6th grade " Hunter Education Safety Courses " should be available across America , for those students that chose to hunt and to be Educated on Safety of all aspects of hunting Safely together . It was very common for Public Schools to offer this option to 6th graders , of course only with child's parents permission only . Students can be Democrat , Republican , anybody can go hunting safely with proper schooling , training and more should be able to consider it as an option , why not .

The democrat party has fewer and fewer 2nd amendment supporters, it's just a fact. To recieve party support, and win in liberal/left leaning districts politicians change. Example, Tim Walz was a dem congressman in the US house, his district was southern MN, mostly rural, had an A+ rating from the NRA. He ran for governor of MN, completely flipped his stance on gun control IMO to appease the dem party and win the liberal metro vote. Hyporctite politicians care about 1 thing, POWER.

If you don't support the 2nd Amendment, why should the rest of us worry about any of the rest of YOUR rights? Let's take freedom of speech for example. Should we start lobbying our congressmen to attach restrictions, fees, and licenses on your right to speak up?

In Constitutions' first words are: "We The People". That's where the two parties have gotten it wrong...its not about the Democrats or Republicans, it's about "We The People".

I live in a purple county in far northern California. I'm (R) but most of my friends are (D). I asked why they don't have Biden bumper stickers or t-shirts, their answer is "I don't want to get shot". I get it. My party - which I've been registered for 42 years - has changed. I've never seen such militant, belligerent and aggressive behavior in all my years. I love my dem friends and my rep friends; we're people with 90% of the same values, goal and expectations. Unfortunately the loud-mouth whackadoodles from both ends of the political spectrum have infected too much of each party with their caustic tribalism. Our country is weaker for it. We need to be back in a place of respect and compromise. How about this: "HICKOK '24 - Reason Over Ideology"

There are Democrats and moderates among the gun guys but overwhelmingly firearms enthusiasts are Republicans and conservatives. The Left of Center is the bedrock group of those who aspire to infringe and repeal the 2nd Amendment, hate the concept of responsible self reliance and despise individual citizen lawful self defense especially with guns of any sort. This has been so at least since the 1960s after Vietnam, the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK, and the social disruptions of those times. There are antigun people among the GOP too but its a given that the Democrat Party in their official platform is our avowed enemy.

When I was ten I took an NRA small arms course and got a marksmanship merit badge. I grew up on a farm and took long shots at woodchucks and garden shots at lettuce eating bunnies. When I was overseas I was issued an ‘03 Springfield to march around with, a .45 to complete my ensemble, and later a WWII era 12ga. to carry around. The first time we saw an M16 we thought it was a joke. How we got to the point now that folks are running around looking oh so tactical, like off duty recently deployed SEALS with blacked out side arms buying Mexican beers and such at the grocery store s a mystery. In my small town there are any number of upside down flags and american flag festooned pickups running around. Well, different strokes I say. What I do know is this: victims of multiple gunshot wounds often drip bullets when they are moved, and that would be too much for me to take on an eight or ten year old. And if all that was available for civilian use were single shot, bolt or lever action weapons there would be more people ( children) alive. I believe that gun owners and their representatives, the NRA and congress, bear the responsibility to end this madness. Enough.

First off, I have massive respect for Hickok45, but most Democrats are rabbidly against the 2nd Amendment. I therefore oppose any such Democrat with 110% effort.

I’m a 49 year old Texan. Republicans aren’t conservative like the 80’s and 90’s anymore. They are something entirely different. Now more than ever, there are TONS of non Republican gun owners. Due to the climate of threats in recent years, many of us have felt the need to stock up.

You might, on a technicality, separate the views of good democrats from the views of the Democrat party; but I CAN'T see a way to honestly say, "I'm a gun-rights advocate but I vote for those who'll take our gun-rights away." Party-wise, that IS what the Democrat party stands for.

It's hard for the subject to be nonpolitical when the majority of one side supports it and the other does not. That's how it's going to be when the party you align with is usually telling of your side on the matter. That's never going to change because pro 2A people tend to be more conservative and vise versa, that's just how it is.

Im a Democrat thats leaning more towards libertarian now days. But i have always had a strong belief that the 2nd amendment is the most important we have. With out it the rest dissappear.

I don’t think you should be able to walk into a gun store with zero experience without a comprehensive background check and walkout with a product whose only function is to take life. I’m all for the second amendment and own weapons myself,but if your new it should be atleast as hard to purchase a gun as it is a Drivers License. It’s just common sense I’m tired of seeing unstable people firing guns in public for no reason whatsoever taking lives and making true Gun owners look like a threat.

I agree. I get sick of political slights either way in gun forums. It is NOT a Left/Right issue. On top of that, we need more empathy. We've stopped asking *why* things are said and hyper focus on analyzing *what* was said. I think the *why* is much more interesting and that can lead to real dialog and improvements. I see myself as a progressive, but very old school. I do not like what I am seeing from either party anymore. I personally believe the Right went over the cliff a while ago, but see now the Left had been on that path far longer than I had realized. There isn't only a communication gap between ideologies, there's a generational gap within ideologies allowing extreme forces to gain power on both sides. We all have more in common than not. We need to really start looking hard at ourselves and each other and who benefits from the divide.

It's not about D and R, it's more about what you believe as a free person. The founder's who wrote the Bill of Rights and Constitution lived under oppressive rulers and put everything they had on the line to get the freedoms we have enjoyed but big corporate money buying the politicians is trying to take it away.

I 100% disagree. Except for a couple of rinos the elimination of gun rights comes exclusively from the democrat party. If you want to protect your 2A and vote democrat then either you out other things as far more important or you do not actually care about your 2A. Even with repiblicans you have to be somewhat careful but elimination of the second amendment is a pillar of democrat policy.

I agree 100 percent. The quickest way to lose our 2nd amendment rights is if they split the people. If you can’t unite on an issue you will lose that issue. Very simple actually.

Firearms ownership is just about the ONLY issue I can still agree with the Republicans on. In every other realm the GQP has betrayed every principle that the party (which I have spent most of my adult life registered with) once represented. It is equally frustrating to me that so many folks on the Left recognise the rise of violent hate on the Right and somehow come to the conclusion that they'd be better off disarming themselves and entirely helpless in the face of such Authoritarianism. We know that no law is going to keep anyone with violent intention from getting hold of any of the 400,000,000+ firearms already in private hands in the US, largely unregistered and untraceable...The most bitter irony is that when pressed, the fans of disarmament all admit that they would have to rely on the very police whom they want to defund to make any confiscation scheme happen. It's madness and there is no political consistency in America any more. The best we can do is vote for the least harm. To me, that's (sadly) meaning I am usually voting for Democrats. I don't personally see any significant advance of Gun Control happening with a 6:3 Supreme Court and with more than half the States (and more all the time) passing Constitutional Carry laws any time soon.

There are many democrats who support the 2nd Amendment. And there are many republicans who don't. We, all of us, tend to generalize when it comes to politics or ethnicity and that gets us into trouble. Years ago, people didn't discuss politics or religion because it always ended up in disagreement. At my gun club we don't ask what your politics are when you apply for membership. Most of us really don't care. It's the true believers out there that cause most of the problems.
