Unfortunately my experience with the Ryet / Zuess Aircode 3d printed saddle has not been so good thus far. I use it on my XC MTB hardtail. It lasted one (1) month before the the nose of the saddle separated from the rails where the rails and saddle nose are joined together. Ryet has sent me a replacement. However they made me pay for shipping. We will see how the second saddle copes with relatively abusive South African XCM racing.

@@cycleandexplore The small wheels, even with the "high pressure" which is intended for the Brompton, will always give a higher rolling resistance! i have a saddle with the same shape (the cheap One) with normal padding, i guess It's a standard product for saddle manufatories in China (obviously copied from Pro stealth saddle). Anyway, i feel not too bad with that but i wonder what can be the difference with such a 3d surface, is the feeling so different from a normal saddle? Looking to the video you found a problem about the shape, but except that do you think this kind of padding is really a gamechanger or It's Just marketing?
@cycleandexplore
@cycleandexplore Год назад
I would say the 3D-printed padding alone does not make a huge difference to me. I also pointed out this AliExpress version does not have transitions in the padding, which I think is a big missed opportunity. I think you need to also consider the shell structure as a combo. The Fizik in the video is my favourite due to the balance of padding and shell flex. I generally prefer firm padding and found the Selle Italia SLR just works for me in the traditional padding. You can definitely find good comfort in the traditional padded saddle. The main advantages of the 3D-printed saddle are the transitions and the lighter weight.

@@lucar7758This will sound counter intuitive but try a hard carbon fiber saddle with no padding, sit bone width is crucial. Since I switched to a Chinese 135mm wide carbon saddle no pain whatsoever. Good quality padded shorts are the key. I do 5+ hr rides.

@cycleandexplore

@sepg5084

@@cycleandexplore it might be ok on road bikes that ride on pristine roads, but some road bikes encounter rain and a bit of mud from time to time. The way you're measuring the width of the saddles is kinda pointless as they arc downwards on the sides. The actual seating area is significantly smaller then the entire width of the saddle. If your seat bones rest on the parts which are considerably lower than the middle of the saddle, there will be way too much pressure on your perineum, which will be extremely painful on medium to long rides! That's why you should only measure the relatively flat part of the saddle. And yes, this is true for saddles with coutouts as well.
@cycleandexplore
@cycleandexplore Месяц назад
That's fair enough; each of our seatbones is shaped differently, and each saddle curve is also different. The video did not suggest everyone would fit the Ryet saddle but more or less gave the dimension as a reference point. What saddle will fit is very personal, and each cyclist should find their perfect saddle. Thanks for sharing.👍

@charlesmansplaining
@charlesmansplaining Год назад
The technology of 3D printed components is still too new for me to buy into it. The pricing is unfair because you now are eliminating some of the manual labor and getting a machine to fabricate the parts. The companies are saving money in the production but not passing that on to the consumer. I have principles. And what is the long term use going to be? Nobody can say that because they haven't been out very long. I just bought a new Berthoud Galibier saddle which has sound technology and every piece of it is replaceable which plays out as a saddle which can actually last me a life time. Once the saddle gets formed to my bottom it is said to be one of the most comfortable saddles I will ever experience. Sure there is that weight thing but the Galibier is pretty light weight, nothing like Brooks saddles. And the price? Well after everything I just said about it don't you think it's worth a high asking price. It's still far cheaper than that Fizik or a Specialized 3D printed saddle. And constructed really well. Your reviews are very good by the way, but it helps convince me I made the right choice.
