Great episode, as always, but there is one SERIOUS thing I have to comment on: if you should stop mentioning the rum brands and other brands you use, that would significantly affect the informatical (a new word there?) side of your show. Your show is THE PLACE where I get the ideas for what rums to buy. Where else am I going to get that information? I will not start buying random rums to try at these booze prices. So please, pretty please with sugar on top, keep showing what brands you use even if the other guy doesn't. (Blaming the rum makers for not sponsoring is a cop-out).
@@nickmorton8998 Yep, and every single one in there is worth having. Remember though, it's not an exhaustive list. There's plenty good rums not on the list for one reason or another. For anyone willing to learn all there is to know about rum and to be introduced to tiki, it's an absolute must-have book.
@@nickmorton8998 Was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. Personally i think it is one of the best books on Tiki available. And just because drinks might specify specific brands that doesn't mean you can't use a different brand, or even a different type of rum, and not get great results. At the end of the day, taste is purely subjective, so there are no hard and fast rules.
I agree, a good tiki book is worth its weight in gold. I don't have the Smuggler's Cove book, but I have three books, Liquid Vacation, 77 Refreshing Tropical Drinks From Frankie’s Tiki Room In Las Vegas, Easy Tiki: A Modern Revival with 60 Recipes, and Tiki Modern Tropical Cocktails. They help guide me with what ingredients to get. Not saying this show hasn't helped with that too and would like to keep hearing the names of the brands used. I feel like Hamilton Rums get a pass since Ed Hamilton has been a guest on the show.
Love the show, and great tip on the ‘golden ratio.’ Could you do a show on how to find, collect, and use music to set atmosphere in a home bar? I’d love some help curating my ‘tiki’ vinyl collection!
Every time the episode ends I so look forward to the extras and this time I just didn’t want it to end, what a cool bar! And that last song, wow! Does anyone know who did that song, at the very end?
Can’t wait for the Donn of Tiki documentary. Should be real interesting for everyone into Tiki. Trying to get Fassionola in the UK is difficult but gotta try it!
Dang, I live 10 minutes surface streets from Tony's...been to the pier loads of times...ate at the lower portion of Tony's once or twice...I gotta get over there to the top! I wasn't as into tiki and cocktails back then in my defense...lol...was there for the kids...
What it technically is is a 'sour', which is what the daiquiri is. And all sours are a spirit, citrus and sweetener, but i've always known the golden ratio to be 4:2:1 respectively.
Now I know! I've been using pictures I found online for ideas building a home tiki bar. I had no idea they were of @polynesianpop's awesome place until watching this! Thanks!
