Is the BMW R nineT Urban GS any good for long distance touring?

Hi, also an owner here, mine is from 2018. I have 20mm risers, since I get what people say about the distance from seat over the longish tank (that is so pretty), and for my 181 cm, this did the trick. Foot pegs are high, but I can say the following: After I have started working out my core, back and lower body 8 months ago, I have given up on wanting to change foot pegs or seat. 400-500km tours are no problem anymore (and yes, breaks are encouraged for coffee, a swim or taking fotos!). I know that some additional windshield (Wundermilch sells one) could (hopefully) reduce the noise a bit, but pretty it isn’t…Also, I have a Wilbers rear shock I inherited from the previous owner, but it is a teeny bit undersprung for me. Important addition: A Mudsling rear mud guard that reduces the amount of spray from the rear wheel by some good percentage (not removing it totally). Is it a good touring bike? Hell, yes! If you are alone… for two up, an old 2012/3 GS has the same engine and certainly would be more convenient and has more space for pillion and luggage, but with the telelever, it ain’t he same. Greetings from Munich

I have 40 up 20 back risers now and it's better form my 180 ;) tried just 20mm and now it's better. I have no problem doing more than 500km a day, just my ass suffers ;) And I hate windscreens - they are for cars... and I hate cars

Of course it is ! But some "ergonomic" modifications are needed. I made this season trip from Warsaw to Venice and back. 7 days, average 500 km daily. No big deal 😃

No biggie, just a bit of back side pain ;)

I love the nineT. I think it would tour well enough for me especially how you had yours set up just get a different seat!

I have an UGS , aftermarket suspension fitted front and rear, seat re-worked, bar risers, all this absolutely a big plus and make it a fun bike, however, for distances I will always take my 2012 GS Adventure, it is a proper touring bike.

I don't have much love for the modern GS's. It became an SUV of motorcycle world.

@@UncleLongbeard The 2012 GS Adv is the same engine trans swing arm as the R9T, it's not yet the electronic tech fest that is the new liquid cooled BMW's. If you get the opportunity to ride a GSAdv for a day and then return to your R9T for a day I think you may have a change of heart. Looking forward to more clips from you.

I love the look of them but the reviews are not convincing me. I have a 1991 R100 and its super comfy, super reliable and handles really well. Good review thanks

Don't listen to the reviews, screw them. Go to the dealer and test ride one yourself. You will either fall in love or not. I did, and here I am. However R100 is a brilliant bike so I don't know if I would switch...

Why is it so difficult to make a comfortable seat for all bikes 🤔 They have all sorts of good technology on bike so just invest more time on the seats as that really important to 99% of riders

I own a 2019 Urban gs. It is not a touring bike. The suspension is very rough and basic. The riding position is cramped. High foot pegs, low handle bar that is way to far away. Needs to be risen and pulled back towards you. The bike is a cafe bike… buy a real GS if you want to go touring ( I know.. I also have the R1200 GSA)
@UncleLongbeard
@UncleLongbeard Год назад
Real GS? You mean R80GS? After that model they just made some bigger and bigger, oversized monstrosities under that name... ;) So, no, thank you for your advice, but I'll stick to my choice. I prefer motorcycles to look like motorcycles

Valid point. G/S heavily modified (by Schek) had been my Beemer for years. Half the hp of a 1200 but much better looking and bloody fast in the twisties. Under 200kg, with 32 ltr. tank half full. And no CAN - BU(LL)S(HIT).🙂
