Join us for a spontaneous trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden after years of not visiting. As a working-class family living in an increasingly expensive city, we usually opt for more affordable weekend activities. But this time, we decided to see if the Botanic Garden was worth the splurge. Spoiler: it’s beautiful, but the costs can add up quickly. We’ll give you a tour of some of our favorite spots, including the Model Railroad Garden and the Japanese Garden, and share the pros and cons of visiting.

The botanical garden in Cleveland can also be expensive. It's really pretty, though! Yours in Chicago definitely has better food choices. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Oh man, we have never been there before. We have been meaning to go. The railroad garden is so cool. I can’t believe how big Nico is getting. I can only think of Karate Kid every time I see a Bonzi tree. We need to be better at bringing our lunch also. This place is so pretty.

Seeing that Nico is interested in trains you should take him to The Illinois Railway Museum out in Union Illinois in McHenry County. I've gone there and I very highly recommend it to you guys and I think Nico would have a great time seeing all of the old trains and riding them.

@@KimchiAndBeansVideos you should go this weekend. They have A Day Out With Thomas. It's a yearly event that has Thomas The Tank Engine and characters from the show. If Nico is interested in Thomas The Tank Engine I'm sure he'll have a blast there. And you'll be able to ride with Thomas on the museum's main line.

Thanks for this review, very nicely done. I was there about three weeks ago, too, and ended up buying the annual membership - takes care of entry fee, parking, etc. I'll return more often now that I can just roll as a member. Also, there is a free of charge picnic area. I loved it.

Make sure it’s a reciprocal membership, which means you can visit all the gardens in the reciprocal book. The Morton arboretum in Lisle has children’s Garden with mazes.
