Hey Science Babes! You asked me to review the Clarisonic cleansing brush. Please let me know what other beauty tools you would like me to review! This video is not sponsored. Connect with me on Instagram @kennawhitnell
Sarah C I have, but she is a bit odd in her perspectives of some stuff. I want a chemists point of view on it and not that “it hasn’t been shown “ explanation.
Can you please make a video on Tati's brand, Halo Beauty? (she makes vitamin supplements) PS. I really do appreciate that now you upload five times a week! Amazing content! Love you, from Hungary! :)
While the Clarasonic was once loved, it seems a lot of people are suddenly coming out and talking against it. But like you mentioned, as long as you don't use it daily, it's actually very useful. I stopped using it for about a yr because I never got around to getting new brush heads either and my face got really rough. After I finally decided to get a new brush head, just a weeks worth of use and my skin was so smooth and soft, especially around my jaw line where the texture was getting the worst. I know it's bad, but I couldn't stop touching my face, lol. I still don't use it every day, but am no longer going to go months/yrs without it again! I personally recommend investing in an actual Clarasonic since, like you mentioned (again), it doesn't spin, just vibrates. So it's not as harsh as knockoffs that do spin. I also suggest getting the sensitive skin head, regardless of what is told to you by a sales person. Even that one is too rough for daily use. The one I use daily is the Cashmere head since it's so soft. I absolutely looove that one! And it's gentle enough for daily use, even twice a day use. I use the regular sensitive brush head for my 2-3 times a week exfoliation. Also, I suggest taking off your makeup (or at least majority if wearing heavy makeup) with micellar water or some other non-cleansing method before going in with the cleanser. You'll save way more cleanser this way and your brush heads will last so much longer doing that. In conclusion, if used correctly and not as suggested by sales people, it's actually really beneficial and glad to hear you agree as well.
Thank you Kenna! 🙏🏽 Would love a video on shampoo and silicones/parabens and additives and how they work and what is actually harmful for our hair and scalp health from your perspective..
Claudia Angelina very true! I learned that too and stopped using silicones in hair products.. I really can see why you want to reach for them, especially if you have hair like mine, not necessarily dry but I deal with lots of frizz and it’s hard to tend to and make look nice.. 🤷🏻♀️ I think it would be nice to educate people and perhaps give alternatives on how to achieve that smoothness through other ingredients?
I just want every single video you make to have millions of views because the SCIENCE BABE QUEEN deserves it!! Thank you for actually educating your audience! 🙌
Hey Boo ! Do you have any opinions or insight on the benefits of using Jojoba oil / Argan oil / Grape seed oil on the face ?? Specifically towards dry and oily acne prone skin ! Thanks
Yes I have used the Clarisonic for 5 years too, I buy my brush heads on Amazon. It feels so nice on my skin and brushes away dead skin. I wash and spray my brush heads with alcohol before storing. It is one of my best skin care purchases. ❤️. Could you do a review on the Foreo Luna skin cleaner or a duplicate from Amazon? 😊
Careful of the ones you buy on eBay and Amazon I tried the less expensive route being that way too and they were knock off brushes. It caused me 10 days on antibiotics due to tiny tears made on my skin, I turned into a beat red, swollen Monster for almost a week. It was awful. It burned so badly because of the tiny tears...just a friendly FYI.
@@Michelle-db8iz Oh no. Sorry to hear this happened to you. We certainly must be careful what we purchase on these sites. Thanks for letting me know. xoxo
Kenna, your videos are getting better each time. Keep up the good work and I’m sure you’ll be a pro RU-vid reviewer in no time! You’re such a natural beauty and I love the fact you aren’t caked with makeup which makes you more relatable to the average viewer.
I have had the cheap spin brush and now own the Clarisonic, I say it’s TOTALLY worth the money! I buy the brushes at ulta when they go on sale! I hear people say not to use them but my skin is so much better with using my Clarisonic!
I have had my Clarisonic for at least 3 years and absolutely love it! My pores have never looked better. I have tried so many products and nothing gave me results as quickly and dramatically as my Clarisonic. I really loved the Cashmere brush head because it was super soft and gentle but I’m having trouble finding it so I picked up the Daily Radiance one at the Ulta sale recently and it is very nice. Soft bristles on the inside and regular ones on the outside make it a good compromise. I use mine probably 4-5 nights a week. One thing many people don’t realize is that the brush heads are made in two parts and can be used individually. Also, for the people who think they’re too pricey, check out HSN or QVC. They often have amazing deals on Clarisonic and replacement heads. I tried the Foreo Luna and wasn’t really impressed with how it made my skin feel. The battery life is amazing but I found it hard to hold and impossible to get in certain areas of my face, Do you have an opinion or have you tried the Face Halos? They are round reusable face clothes that come in a pack of three and each lasts for approx. a month. Supposedly, you use them with no cleanser...???
Kenna, you are an angel. Whenever I start researching what I want to buy for my skincare I find out that you have a video recently put up about it. Your opinion is valued so much. Thank you for that.
Christine Santos good question! I have both a Clarisonic and a Foreo. I tend to use the Clarisonic more often, but the foreo also vibrates so maybe they aren’t too damaging either.
Q Yeah that's why I asked! They are so similar, just wanted to see if our smarty girl could shed us some light because I own a Foreo but here in Brazil I never actually heard of this Clarisonic. Kenna should do a series based on beauty technology such as Foreos/Clarisonics and even compare a few that are related cause maybe some types of skin and routines do better with one or the other, idk. Also, sorry about my English, it isn't my first language.
Yes Im interested too! Especially because there isnt the upkeep of continuous purchase of brush heads. The foreo seems more simple to clean ( and it looks prettier too haha!) I havent got either but Ive been more interested in the foreo!
The Clarisonic really is incredible. When I’m using it consistently after a break, my skin texture is smooth, not congested. Coworkers and friends notice a difference as well. I received my Mia 2 by asking my parents for it as my only Christmas present from both of them 3 years ago. I have traveled with it so many times, and handled it with the proper care at home. Used it on and off, it still works like new! YES the brush heads get pricey BUT I always buy mine 50% off during the Ulta 21 days of beauty sale, they’re always in there. Depending on my current budget might grab a few, or just grab the 1 at half off. That’s how I have managed to afford keeping up with the cost. However, I do know not everyone has access to Ulta. Therefore, this is tip for those who do have an Ulta. For anyone who is looking into buying one, I definitely recommend looking for a video created by Clarisonic to show you the motions of using it so you aren’t brushing too rough on your skin. It’s doing 99% of the work for you, so don’t feel you have to go in wild circular motions
Can you please do a video on the best skincare products for people with very red/sensitive skin? I have early onset rosacea and you're the only person I trust to tell me what ingredients to look for!
I currently use the Foreo Luna. I purchased it at Ulta a few years ago. I am happy with it. I am saving my Ulta points for a Dyson dryer and all the attachments. If I have enough points in the future and my Luna stops working, I will give this a try.
I bought a Clarisonic for their foundation brush head because I have a chronic pain disorder and makeup application really hurts my wrist. I’d SO recommend the foundation brush heads if you use a more liquid based regimen or need accessible tools. I also have the massager, which kind of just vibrates and firms your skin, though it really gets your moisturizers and serums deep into your pores. I’m not always happy with with my Clarisonic, especially the price of the brush heads, but you stock up when you can and make do. 😅
Helen Im it really depends on a persons skin type. Also, opinions vary upon skincare professionals. I am a former aesthetician. Sensitive skin can have negative side effects. It can greatly improve a persons complexion. I have benefited from this product. I plan on use this forever.
Mary Kay has a skinvigorating brush that is exactly like the clarisonic for only $75. it doesn’t spin, it vibrates as well!! and i took your tip to apply my cleanser to my face instead of my brush and it works soooo much better than putting it onto the brush!!
I got mine a month ago on a sale, with three brush heads, although I don’t use the facial massager, I do think it’s a neat idea. I use it at night before head, only when I feel as if my skin needs a bit more exfoliating because I have very sensitive & dry skin. So it’s not an everyday use for me but definitely every other day, I can tell a big difference within the first month that my skin feels like it can breathe a bit more. It was a splurge gift for myself but I have always dealt with problematic skin throughout my life & I don’t want to say this product has changed my life or anything but it has made a difference in the way my skin looks. With facial masks & cleansers of course. Also SPF. I see that a lot of women in the questions portion of certain forums seem to think that the brush does all the magic, it’s a healthy regimen as you know your skin that helps the most! Thanks so much for this review, it’s actually the best one I’ve seen yet for the Clarisonic. Also new subber! ✅👻
I love my Clarisonic! Ulta had the heads for 50% off during their 21 Days of Beauty. They often include the heads in that sale so I stock up every time they do. Clarisonic website often runs deals on the heads, as well. Hunt around, you don’t have to pay full price for the replacements.
I bought Ulta’s version of this brush when it happened to be on sale, it was originally $40 and I got it for $15!!! It does only vibration motions which is good, AND it has the option to buy silicone brush heads instead of bristles which work way better on my sensitive skin! Also they are way easier to sanitize and keep clean! It’s a great option for anyone who can’t afford the Clarisonic! I also have the Clarisonic, and the only differences are that the Clarisonic holds a charge for longer than the Ulta version, but you can’t buy the type of silicone brush heads for the Clarisonic that you can for the Ulta version. Also the silicone brush heads for the Ulta version were a pack of two for $15, so all around a much more affordable option!
The Clarisonic foundation brush is honestly my favorite! I bought it when there was a special holiday deal where you got the foundation brush and a cleansing brush head in a pack, and I’m so happy I decided to splurge on it. It blends out cream contour like a DREAM! I don’t like it for all of my foundations, but most of them I love the way it blends out. It blends better than any brush or sponge I’ve ever used.
If you keep an eye out Ulta includes the brush heads in the 21 days of beauty sometimes. I try and stock up on them then. They were just on sale Sept 13 for $13.50-$16 depending on the brush head.
I use the Olay Regenerist (It's red) Facial brush and it is awesome. I have sensitive skin and I can use the Olay Regenerist every night on the second speed (which is for sensitive skin). Yes it spins, but I just go over my face by counting to 30. You get two brushes and you get two brush replacements less than 12 dollars. I also have dry mature sensitive skin and being able to use it once a day at night is great. No it doesn't cause more wrinkles like some are trying to say so you will buy the Clarisonic product instead. For my skin type and mature skin the Clarisonic would be too harsh on my skin and I don't have to worry about it with the Olay Regenerist facial brush. Plus it costs less and works just as good as the Clarisonic, which is so overrated anyway and only has one speed.
Thanks so much for this! I use the Clarisonic but ive heard mixed things about it being too rough on the face even the sensitive ones. I cant wait to try your skincare line when I can afford it!!
I've been using Olay's rotating version for years, morning and night. My face always feels so much cleaner and smoother vs. just using my hands. It really gets in every nook and cranny. I've never replaced the head though? I just soak it in hot water and I've never had facial problems from it..
I absolutely LOVE my Clarisonic. I’ve had it for 2, going on 3 years and I won’t go without it. I use it every single time I wash my face, minus maybe a handful of times. My face has/had never been so soft. Struggled with acne for a long time, and I really don’t anymore. I don’t know if it’s because of my age or just my skincare routine, but I definitely think it helped. I recommend it to nearly everyone.
In your Bella Thorne reaction video you mentioned how physical exfoliators are too harsh for your face, I would love to see a quick video on your thoughts about microdermabrasion and other spa exfoliating services
i bought a cleansing brush from Braun, it's the kind that rotates. i didn't have any issue with the rotating brushes, they weren't that harsh. i used it a lot at the beginning but i slowly stopped because it works with a battery and a battery doesn't last long, than i never had charged batteries (i use the rechargable ones), by the time they charged it was too late, so it got annoying to always make sure i had batteries ready to go. for anyone looking to buy a cleansing brush, get one that has a charger, not batteries.
It's the best face tool ever! I can't go back to cleaning my face with my fingers anymore. It has helped me remove acne for good of my face. I love it!
I had pinched a nerve in my neck last week. It was so incredibly painful it woke me. Out of desperation I took my Clarisonic & they undereye attachment to the area of my neck. It took awhile but it worked so well. 😁
Kenna please tell us about your education and what it takes to he a biochemist and what career outcome looks like. I think it's important for a lot of young women to hear from a woman in science and maybe a few girls will be inspired to go into the science industry hearing from you
I use a Clarisonic and I’m 60 yrs old. I had breakouts for the first time in my life when I was around 50. I’m sure it was hormonal. I finally got them under control when I started using my Clarisonic and Cereve SA face wash.
I love my Clarisonic. I use it once a day, after I remove my makeup. It’s definitely helped me get a better cleanse, and my acne has reduced 100%! I never want to be without it.
I see other people commenting about Halo Beauty and I think it would be such a great video for you to review! It is a vitamin brand but I would love someone else’s opinion on it!😌
PSA for anyone who wants/has the Clarisonic: you can get knockoff replacement brush heads for a fraction of the price of the Clarisonic ones on amazon! works exactly the same!
Just ordered your skincare line yesterday and I’m so excited to try it! I’m curious on what you’re thoughts are on toners! I’m so used to 3 steps systems being like “Step 2: Toner” but the Altilis system has a serum, just want to know your thoughts and opinions are! 💛
its definately worth it! i need a new brush head, but in the time i havent been using it i notice a huge difference in my skin. its getting more texture and im breaking out more. my skin was super clear during the time i was using the brush.
I got my Mia 2 about the same time you did. But I am getting closer to age 60, I have found my skin has really thinned out. I now use over the counter retinoid, vitamin C, niacinamide, and lactic acid serums. I feel that my skin is getting exfoliated chemically now. Clarisonic suggests you replace the brush head every 3 months. I actually purchase a set of 4 delicate brush heads from a generic company for much less money. My daughter in law is using it now and LOVES it!
@@shericlements3756 I actually wrote up my skincare routines for a friend and just kept is on file. It has taken me three years to be able to use all these products together. I just started with a few and added to it. I also didn't use the stronger ingredients every day at first. (lactic acid, vitamin C and the retinoid) Skin Care Regime *products from The Ordinary A.M. Wash face with Cervave Moisturizing cleanser * 2 drops Hyaluronic acid (Applied to a wet face. Wait five minutes to let it sink in.) *3 drops Argireline serum on forehead and around the eyes *4 drops Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% (vitamin C) *3-4 drops Lactic Acid Elf Illuminating Eye Cream (this product has really helped with my puffy eyes I get from allergies and dark circles as well. I am on my 5th jar) *Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA (best day time moisturizer!) Vanicream for sensitive skin- I only apply this to any dry patches if needed Neutrogena Helioplex sunscreen SPF 110 P.M. Ponds Cold Cream to take off makeup Garnier micellar water to remove left over makeup, especially mascara Cerave Moisturizing Cleanser (I use a silicone cleansing device at night) *3-4 drops Hyaluronic acid serum TO WET FACE (let this really sink in) *3 drops Argireline serum (apply only to forehead and around eyes) * 4 drops Niacinimide 10% + Zinc 1% *4 drops Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (I then wait around 10 minutes to let this all sink in) Elf Illuminating Eye Cream Castor Oil on my lashes and eyebrows ( I use to have very short eyelashes and hardly any brow hairs.) *Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Vanicream Moisturizer for sensitive skin (I apply this to my entire face, neck, and chest at night) *AHA/BHA Peeling serum mask (This is a very strong product. I only use this mask once a week) Other tips include: -use a new wash cloth every time I wash my face. -Apply hand sanitizer to hands before starting to work on my skin.. -I try to stay away from any kind of fragrance or silicones. -always use lukewarm water, not too hot. -My goal is to spend as little money as possible to get the best products that work for my skin.
Recently I've been really interested in Norwex face/body cloth, it claims to have silver woven into it's microfiber & because of this having antibacterial properties, that reduce bacteria, mold etc. growth in them between use. I would be really interested in Your perspective on these products! Thank You for contributing such an awesome & super informative content here on YT! Blessings & all the best! 🙌🏻💛
Im trying not to buy so many things or create a lot of waste when replacing attachments so i guess this is not for me. I think i just need a face towel and gentle circular motions to effectively slough off dead skin cells. Like, just dont be violent enough to create tearing on your skin and use a gentle, non-drying/stripping cleanser then you should be good lol.
I'm glad the Clarisonic is safe for my skin! I was wondering if it would cause micro tears (like an apricot or walnut scrub would). Ive been on the fence about getting one of these for so long!
I love my Clarisonic so much! I have the mia smart, and I buy the replacement heads during Ultas 21 days of beauty where they’re down to like $15 each. Also, HSN and QVC usually have these, and you can make payments on them. That’s what I did 😊
Your videos are the BEST. Thank you!!!! I don't know if you've covered it yet but can you discuss essential oils in skincare? I've heard such conflicting info.
Hi Kenna, thanks for this video! You mentioned that the vibration is better than the ones that rotate by itself.. But in your reaction vid about Bella Thornes Skin Routine you actually said (or at least that's what I received) that any physical "peeling" or "treatment" is too strong for the sensitive face skin.. But something like a vibrating Brush is okay then? :)
Could you also take a look at vibrating silicone cleansing devices like the PMD clean? To me, the bristles are able to exfoliate away dead and flaky skin that is ‘ready’ to come off (which I have a lot of due to my topical isotretinoin) without any harshness
Oil of Olay has one that vibrates as well and it’s have the price. That’s what I use. It also comes with disposable pads and they are cheap to replace. 😊
I use the Clinique Sonic System which has the same vibrating feature as your one! I got the one "For Men" (cause it was grey), but I don't really see or get the difference between their brush heads.
So basically we gotta wash our makeup brushes after EVERY use?! Lol and wow a company sent me a face brush but it spins and I wondered if the spinning was rough for your skin, THANK YOU so much! 💖
Hi Kenna! May i recommend you switch to the new number one cleansing device from NuSkin, the LumiSpa!! It is absolutely amazing in comparison to the clarisonic device.
This is more of a question than a criticism, so I’m hoping you can explain if you can. I find it a bit contradictory that you say never to use exfoliating scrubs, and yet you’re on board with the Clarisonic, which is quite an (arguably quite strong) method of physical exfoliation. Even if the bristles are made of a soft plastic rather than a hard particle of a scrub, the pressure of the vibrations could surely make it possible to irritate your skin in a similar way, and would probably be less gentle than if you were to softly use a scrub with your hands. Similarly, you’ve recommended storing it in a box, however it would be difficult to ensure that between each bristle is thoroughly dry before storing, so storing a potentially damp product in a closed environment is an ideal breeding ground for microbes. And even if you wash between each use, the product is still not going to be sterile, so reusing for three months seems like a long time to potentially be introducing bacteria deep into your pores. This isn’t meant to be a criticism, I’m just confused because watching your videos you have repeatedly said you should never physically exfoliate and I’m confused as to why the Clarisonic seems to be an exception.
Ulta had the Clarisonic brushes at half price during their 21 Days of Beauty so I picked up a couple. YAY! I agree with Crazy Hondamom. I'd like info on natural deodorants and why aluminum is not good.
How do you feel about silicone vibrating brushes like the FOREO Luna? You don't have to replace brush heads and it doesn't spin, simply vibrates. It's also about half the price. I don't own one, but I've been thinking about purchasing one!
Would this tool be considered a physical exfoliate ? I am slightly confused because I was under the impression that physical exfoliates like apricots scrubs and facial brushes would be to rough and rip the skin? And only chemical exfoliates are recommended ?
Scrubs are bad because they're little hard, irregularly shaped balls that are rolling over your face. Brushes have more give and they're not as hard and rough. They're softer and more uniform. Also *too rough
I am a big fan of the foreo luna cleansing brush. I'm into it because it's a one-time purchase (no replacement brusheads). It also doesn't use circular motions either, it uses T-sonic" vibrations and it's made of silicone, which I find is easier to clean. Would that be a tool you would recommend?
Darlene Evans Hi! I think it‘s just like replacing toothbrushes, it‘s way more hygenic (bacteria growth due to contact with your face/water/air) that way!
I've heard that the mechanism is different from the Clarisonic, but don't quote me on that since I haven't done extensive research on the differences. The cheaper ones apparently just spin around and brush the skin, but the Clarisonic uses oscillation between the outer and inner brushes to dislodge dirt and oils.
I use the Michael Todd Soniclear. Basically the same thing... but the brush heads are apparently anti microbial?? So you only have to change them every 6 months.
You can buy the brush heads on Groupon for super cheap. That’s where I get mine. 4 for $15ish dollars and I see no difference in the name brand and off brand 💜
The clinique one seems to be very similar. It only vibrates and different brudheads. It also comes with lid over the brush head and also á case and it is way cheaper. I also have foreo luna, love that thing even more than the brushes as it is silicone and way more gentle
