I studied in public schools only and always achieved high grades, it all comes down to the individual’s his/or her passion what to be in life. After completing my master’s programme with distinction, I have worked for Top class IT companies in New Zealand.

No, that’s a very general statement as an outlier as it has nothing to do with your passion as a child, how are you supposed to know your passion at 17?it’s about the environment that the student is placed in. There are way too many variables to judge the experience of a child I.e teacher bias against the student, racial micro aggressions, teacher student ratio, also there are more opportunities at a private schools for example the trips, subjects and sporting available is different to public school plus the connections and networking that is available to you at a private school compared to a public school. Also the methodology they teach students. However this can also be reversed, I don’t think you should speak for all as you’re an exception because factually speaking there are more opportunities available at private schools and yes it is dependant on the child to make the most out of it but it’s clear as day opportunities are heavy at a private school vs public school

I can't believe they didn't mention the effect of coming from a less wealthy family has on educational outcomes. The families who have money for a private education also have money for tutoring and can pay for all the textbooks and resources. As a teacher I think it was irresponsible not to mention this.

Having gone to private and public schools including kura, I believe I was sent to private schools to change the social environments not for the education purpose!

Notice how she says private school students are achieving higher results in whatever qualification they choose after school. Avoiding the fact that they don't perform any higher in secondary school itself. It's almost like those stats might be skewed by some of those students having their courses and living paid for so they don't have to pick up part to full time work that will lower time and energy available to study.

I grew up in a low crime town and went to a Decile 5 public school. I received straight As and went on to complete two degrees at university. Both of my parents were research scientists, now retired, so it was expected that I would do well academically. My parents thought about sending me off to a private boarding school but decided against it. The only real benefit I think I would have had if I went to a private school would have been the business connections through school friends.

Traditional education is designed to produce cheap labour. It is completely overrated. However, I guess not everyone is an entrepreneur.....

This interview completely ignores social class - the access that brings to the attainment of a conventionally successful career after school via networks as well as parental expectation

Private schools open doors through networking and more class options having been to uni I was miles behind a private school student, but end of the day it’s down to how desperate the individual is to be successful,

You would have to define successful. After you finish secondary school there are so many ways to define success.

She mentioned students at private schools do better academically, otherwise she said nothing of substance. What a waste of four minutes.

I did four years of private education and would consider the time I spent there the beast grounding for real life skills, I would ask my parents why they sent me there and all they said was they wanted the best possible start for us, I sent my three children to a Christchurch boarding school so they too could learn the basic skills that I did that being hard work, respect ,building blocks for your successful future

private schools represent 2% of nz education system. The rest being either public or state integrated.

Smaller class sizes check, better facilities sure. Better grades, no evidence of that. Show me the stats.

Completely waste of time interview. If she is not comfortable or not able to provide evidence based opinions then what’s the point of inviting her?

The chance of my child turning Transgender or Gay in a private school is very minimal, due to the fact that the teachers are more concentrating on the main subjects rather than the woke government agenda..... You get what you pay for. If the teachers in private schools don't perform, they won't last long. The parents make sure of it.... And so they should.... Maybe that's how your interview should have gone... Just saying...

Oh for goodness sake do your research thoroughly before such an absurd comment 🫣🤔 If you really believe what your saying I would suggest doing it sooner rather than later because you are way off reality

As a private school student you are so wrong😂 we had many lbgtqa+ students. The difference is the focus of social economics as opposed to trade and academics. Social Studies, Science Technologies and International Experience was more prominent than other subjects and students were often pitted against each other to suck more money out of their parents.
