If I'm spending nearly half the price of a brand new console on a controller alone, then that controller should have ZERO problems whatsoever. It's absolutely insane to me that your LS button just stopped working 25% of the time, and your RB and A button have problems too. The fact that they don't send an identical controller back when performing warranty repairs is scummy as hell.
I agree already had issue with my first xbox controller that i had a drift stick issue when i got my series x i was pissed how the controller broke xbox should get sued for letting their products get broken stright out of the damn box !
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, the more I use the controller and the more it deteriorates (noticing I have to hit some buttons quite a few times to get them to work now) the more it irks me that the quality is so low for the price! Hoping they fix it in the future...
@@mettaalpha8551 I actually don't have a PlayStation 5, so I've never used the DualSense edge, let alone the newer DualSense controllers. However, I do know the sticks are replaceable, which would be nice as you could potentially replace the sticks if you encounter stick drift! I would recommend looking at some reviews and maybe checking out the PS5 subreddit for posts about the controller if you're interested in it!
Xbox should get a lawsuit for this driftstick problem and aslo its funny enough how the controller breaks fast with its issues i had my first controller when i bought my series x and paid my series x almost fucking 700 thousan because since my xbox one was having issues with sink button and the disc drive
I think there may be a lawsuit they're trying to file, but I'm not 100% sure. It's definitely something that needs to be fixed. I know there's a few 3rd party controllerz that use hall effect sticks that shouldn't get stick drift, but you shouldn't have to resort to 3rd party equipment to fix the problem!
I want to make one but the design labs says "you can't sign into your Microsoft account because it needs a first name". I have my full name in, and can sign into Xbox and Microsoft. Only designlabs site won't let me buy or sign in!!
That's very strange....I wonder what could be causing that. Maybe you could try contacting support or if you really want one you could always make a second account to get one. I've never heard someone have that problem before!
This hurts my soul What costume controller do you recommend? I've been looking at xbox design lab, battle beaver, and a couple others. Whats your daily driver.
I'm still using the elite controller for my daily. It's been holding up enough and working to the point where I don't feel like I exactly need a new controller yet despite the issues. I know there have been several different controllers suggested by other commenters such as the King Kong 2 pro controller, Razer elite controller, and the Gulikit controller. I've never personally used any of them so I can't necessarily recommend any of them, but I'm sure by doing some research you can find out which one is the best option for you!
7:54 honestly I would say that's kind of unacceptable. That controller was 200 bucks, it better be perfect. That's 3 triple A games you could have bought instead.
To be honest that doesn't even bother me that much, the fact that the buttons work is a much larger flaw that I find to be very annoying. But I will agree, it probably isn't something that should happen!
This is never going to change this happens on all elite controller core series 2 or labs it’s an absolute joke and it’s crazy Microsoft is not held legally responsible for this constant year over year issue.
Agree, it really is a problem that needs to be fixed. You're paying a good amount of money for something that's already not at 100% 6 months later. Hoping that they do a series 3 that actually fixes things, otherwise you might as well just buy a normal controller.
@@slapshotjack9806 can't speak for anyone else, but I personally haven't ever thrown a controller around the room. It's just a game, no reason to do something like that.
Got one used adult owned my mans was 47 he balled out when his kids started gaming but they not built like that. So it sat for months. Got it for 69 bucks. Perfect condition actual dust. Just sitting
Do you know any good controllers xbox? Although the fact that i have to get a controller Every few months is like a subscription for playing consoles. Which is unreal
I've never personally used any of the third party controllers, I know that I've heard of a few brands like Power A, Razer, and a few other ones. I would recommend taking a look online and checking out the reviews, especially since each brand has a couple different versions of their controllers
The elite series 2 controller is awful for the QC side of things. The first controller had ghost button pressing issues. The 2nd controller I got the best buy warranty and exchanged it at least 6 more times after that. The current one I have seems to be ok for now.
It really is a shame their top tier controller is so bad. Your think after the first one had issues they'd try to improve and fix it, but now here we are with a still iffy series 2
Damn, I'm both sorry to hear that but also glad it's not just me having issues with the buttons... it sucks that the quality is so lackluster on such an expensive controller...
The first dualshock on ps1 never got stick drift i bought one of those things and it lasted till the ps2 came out. This build quality bullshit is pathetic.
Definitely is something they need to look at. With all the controller variations they make now days, it makes you wonder if they make them shoddily on purpose...
I got a custom controller and it came in the box with broken sticks and after owning it a few months other things are already broken in it. dont buy any custom controller.
The price point would be better if they didn't have such widely reported issues, in my opinion. It's a cool controller but there are definitely some quality control issues.
Useless customizations. Awesome and usefull ones would be: - Replace mechanical thumbstick with magnetic hall effect sensors. No more stick drift, zero dead zone and incredible precision - Replace membrane button with mechanical buttons. Millions click durability, clicky feedback - Better bumper mechanical switch Replace low quality bumper switch with high quality ones But colors?.... not the very first things that urgently needs replacement on this controller in my opinion.
Buying directly from the company instead of through a 3rd party like Amazon has the benefit of faster and more reliable support. I have noticed the difference with both Microsoft and Logitech.
I've also been having this problem, with the A button and the RB. Very unfortunate, but I guess the paddles help ease the pain a little bit. Still sucks to have it happen though for the price point of the controller.
Any recommendations on if the elite 2 or core is better? I’m switching over from my ps4 to an xbox x/s and am unsure of which to get. Also do you know if it’s better value to potentially get the series x/s with the 24 month ultimate game pass or the x/s that already comes with a elite controller?
So, the elite core controller is basically an elite controller, but it doesn't come with any of the special features that make the normal elite 2 controller special like the paddles, extra thumbsticks, carrying case etc. You could always get the core controller now, then there's always the option of getting the "complete component pack" in the future that includes basically everything extra that isn't included with the initial controller, however it is $60 so you would end up paying $190 for everything all said and done while you can buy a normal black elite series 2 for $179. They also frequently go on sale, like right now it's actually on sale for $140, which is only $10 more than the normal core controller. As for the game pass/controller debate, I would say that game pass is probably the better value, especially since I've had issues with my controller after a few months. Price wise, it's also a better deal as one month of Game Pass Ultimate comes out to $11, so 24 months' worth of Ultimate works out to $264. Pair that with the fact that you can get some of the big new releases (the new Forza, Starfield, etc.) day one, I would say the Ultimate is the far better deal! Sorry for the long comment, hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
I would love to make one with medium gray top and back buttons, eggs robin blue front buttons and controller body, and White for the handle. 3:03 is similar to the color option I'm going to choose but just with blue buttons and deep gray for the shoulder buttons and silver for the back paddles because I plan on getting the full elite controller. Hope I won't have to pay more than $250.
Sounds like a good looking controller! Seeing as you get the whole controller+ elite package for $210, you should be able to keep it under $250 for the whole thing!
I've been going back and forth about building my own elite controller, the only thing that stops me from doing it is all the complains I read about issues with the quality, which I have experienced myself first hand with regular Xbox controllers, if I'm going to spend $230 with tax for a custom controller, I should expect to get something that is going to last, my last two Xbox controllers have come out defective out the box, one with a sticky right trigger and the other one with a sticky A button.
I will say that it's pretty disappointing to get the controller and have issues with it after only a few months. In my case, the A button and the Right Bumper are still iffy on the input sometimes. Honestly, you'd be better off just getting one of the core controllers and get the parts in the colors you want directly from Xbox, then getting an insurance plan (or replacement plan, whatever you want to call it) so that you can replace it if needed. I've looked at a few other custom controller companies, and they end up either being wired, really weird looking, or just way more expensive fully kitted out than this. It's a shame too, I really like the added buttons on the back, and I can't envision myself going back to a normal Xbox controller... Thanks for the comment!
Can't say I've noticed any lag while using it on PC. If your PC supports Bluetooth, it will connect directly to it. Otherwise, plugging it into the computer directly with the included USB cable should work as well, and will negate any lag.
There's a possibility. I've never messed with that myself though. You may be able to mitigate stick drift through the customization tho as you can tune the sensitivity
They do have customizable normal controllers, but those don't have the back paddles and extra features. I think I've seen a few people online mention peeling, but they said they just were able to glue the grip back into place.
I got baited thinking that this was a real customization and not the shit color change xbox is offering. I personally soldered LB/RB switches instead of the crappy ones that came with the elite 2, cut the membrane for the ABXY buttons to glue mouse like switches for a mechanical click because their membrane is crap specially if you press them softly. Also replaced the ABXY plastics for triangle/square/circle/cross because I just don't like having letters on my buttons and I play on PC. Hall effect sticks are the things I'm missing right now.
Wow, that sounds like a lot of work but also sounds like an interesting process! Add the hall effect sticks and it might be the best controller possible. Out of curiosity, is it expensive to upgrade all that?
I had 2 of the elite series 1 controllers and they were both not good, i now have the elite series 2 controller and while it's an improvement the A and B buttons were not very responsive, i'm never buying anymore of the series controllers again, i have an older razer elite controller which is far better than any of the series elites have ever been ( just my experience)
Sounds like third time wasn't the charm in your case, unfortunately. I'm glad the Razer elite is treating you well though! I just wish they would work harder to fix the Xbox elite problems
I’ve had elite controllers since the first black one me personally I love em a lot I wouldn’t go back yes it’s expensive but it feels quality and my custom one came in less than a month if you have the spare cash I’d say do it get one from target if you don’t like it return it if you do return it and use that money to make a custom one if that’s what you want
I know a lot of people will get them through best buy and get the geek squad protection which means they can exchange it if yours breaks, but unfortunately that isn't valid with the custom series 2 since it's directly from Microsoft. I agree its a good controller, but the quality control is a little iffy. I'm glad you like it, it's always fun to use!
if I'm paying that much for a custom controller then it should last the life of the console or through a few gens of consoles. it would keep the customer happy, but Microsoft doesnt give a rip as the market its mostly young adults and children they know they can get away with itbeing slightly better than standard. From an Engineering standpoint to make it really realiable it would have to cost a ton more for something that is being constantly and repeatedly pressed on. Personally I would pay more if it would work for the long haul and stand up to competitive gaming. They manage to make it just good enough to where its better than a standard controller and make you want to keep using it and hate to go without it thats solid marketing 101.
Definitely seems like something weird is going on with the controller. Especially since this controller is 2-3x as expensive as a normal controller for just a few more features, it definitely shouldn't be breaking so fast. Definitely agree that they make it good enough and different/better enough with the paddles to the point where it's so different that you would want another if yours broke. Good marketing for sure.
@@pat_mgroyn Yea its a bummer for sure, but they look amazing and feel great when they do work. I think someone is eventually going to come out with something better my Elite 2 works for now, but I only use it to navigate my console for Netflix and RPGS less taxing on the buttons. The KingKong from Guliikit sounds interesting they have pattents on all of their designs and they use magnetic modules a company to keep an eye on if they ever add mouse click triggers or assist paddles just bought one to try it out just waiting for it to arrive. I also use the Scuf Instinct pro primarily for heavy FPS currently and that controller for my hands performs extremely well. Its fun to flick the rear triggers too, however It developed stick drift within six months on the right stick and I'm hooked on using it for the performance so I went ahead and had it fixed $90!!! for a $220 controller its absurd. Its been solid since, but they only last so long when they work they really work, but be ready to fork out more for another one or a fix great content* man enjoying it.
My wife is getting a custom glacier blue and purple controller with the extra custom accessories package, for Christmas. I wish Sony offered custom controllers for my ps5 though.
Yeah, I agree. I was hesitant but thought "usually my normal controllers have been pretty good so it will probably be different" and thought everything online was more just a small group being loud.
I’m not sure why, but every single Xbox controller have bought in the past 3 years have all had problems with the LB button. The stock controller that came with my series s started having problems maybe after a year and a half, then was my elite series 2 black controller, which started having problems with the LB button after about a year. Then, I bought a elite series 2 core controller edition and it only lasted less then two months! Now I am playing on PlayStation for now but I did order another elite series 2 core controller in red, so hopefully it lasts longer.
It's weird, before this controller I had never had much trouble with the normal Xbox controllers. Of course now the most expensive one is the one that works the worst! Have you ever tried to get them replaced via warranty from Microsoft?
@@pat_mgroyn I haven’t, since none of them had a warranty when they broke, but the core controller did but since I bought it from Amazon I got a refund.
@@ur_grandmother that's good, at least with the warranty you don't have to waste money buying a new one with no refund. For the price, it would not be the ideal solution!
take my advice if you want but you should prob get a pry tool and the highest % of isopropal alc u can and look up a vid on how to pop off the front plate and once its popped off make sure your controllers turned off and individually pour the alc on the buttons that weren't working to good and press them abt 30 times as fast as possible and just repeat that till it gets better and anolog sticks you can just twist them to the left till they come off and pour alc into the potentiometers then screw back on the sticks and move them around like in circles and etc. but any ways hope that helps and have a good day
Thanks for the tip! I might have to try that some time soon as the buttons especially are giving me more and more trouble. Sometimes I have to double tap for them to work once! Do you have any idea if this would work with the bumpers as well? My RB button is really bad too and I have to hit it in a sweet spot for it to work sometimes
@@pat_mgroynthe bumpers are weird and work as a fulcrum with an arm that rotates only slightly to tap a switch mounted perpendicular to the bumper. Weird design. Not just straight press
Yes it has, a few of the buttons are a little finicky/spongy and take a hit or two to actually work sometimes! I go into it a bit more around 11:05 in the original video if you want a better run down of the issues I've personally had!
I think that I prefer the style of the 2 over the 1. I've never used the first one, but I know it doesn't have the grips that go around the whole bottom end of the controller, and I like the new series x controller style better (where the controller continues around the Xbox button instead of being the same color as the bumpers) I'm glad you enjoy the series 1 controller though, I remember being pretty excited about it when it came out!
It is a pretty steep price, and unfortunately I don't think they ever go on sale. I know you can get plain ones on sale quite often, but they're still usually at least $100.
That's totally accurate battle simulator (TABS for short). They're not in the normal game and were added in via the steam workshop! I did a video on it a while back on my channel if you're interested! :)
@@jordan3817977 I'm not sure as I don't have one, but looking at them real quick on the website, the custom ones are way more expensive than the custom Xbox elites. Looking online, it looks like the opinions are pretty mixed on whether or not it's better than the elite!
for 69$ you can buy the KingKong 2 pro controller which has the electromagnetic sticks instad of the old potentiometer. The new stick has 0 drift and dead zone and is much more durable cause it won't wear out.
I just looked it up, it looks like an interesting product but was also seeing that it wasnt compatible with Xbox like the elite controller. It is compatible with PC and switch though, so it could be an interesting option for those.
I think I would agree, my normal Xbox controllers seem to hold up better than my series 2 elite did, which should really be the opposite if it's so expensive.
@@pat_mgroyn they need to drop the elite 3 already they know they can do it Why wait Why have a last gen pro controller at this point The Xbox One gets discontinue for games this year it would only make sense for them to drop it
@@mpoveroni yeah, however I would be hesitant to even get a series 3 after this experience. Would definitely wait to see what the consensus is on it so I don't get burned like with this one. Hopefully they can fix all the issues and put out a worthy series 3!
I've heard from other commenters that there's some good 3rd party Xbox style controllers with driftless sticks, but I haven't tried any of them. If you really want an Xbox controller, you could always try one of those!
@@pat_mgroyn nah i bought two logitech controllers since i used them before and i know they're way more durable and reliable than microsoft's controllers
I feel like the QA is so wacky that you could have a day one Xbox one controller that's still fine then have a few months old new controller that already has stock drift. Definitely needs to be fixed!
Not even gonna start the video, lol. No theyre not good, still no hall effect joysticks.... its not a matter of if it goes bad, its a matter of WHEN they go bad. Nope
@patmgroyngaming true that, tbh. I couldn't see the hall effect jams truly lasting "forever" but those mfs last long enough to be considered forever, haha. If I'm not mistaken, you can now buy a gulikit rebranded version with hall effect joysticks from Target, sells for the switch but has the changeable buttons (for xbox/ pc) and everything, for $70.00. Didn't intend on shilling for Target 😂
@@DISsumSAUCE hmm sounds interesting. I know there's some 3rd party companies that sell similar Xbox controllers like the elite, but they're often absurdly expensive (like scuf controllers which seems to always be like $300+. Interested about that target controller. Might have to look it up but $70 seems awful low. Hopefully it's a good product though!
if you really want to know if its worth it, the anwser is always no, because you can just use a keyboard and mouse with macros on it instead, and be way more accurate as well, for an example if you use ghub and set one of your on board profiles to have a macro on the g502 lightspeed, you can change one of the 2 buttons to the left of the left click, to fire repeatedly at 30 ms, as a hold macro, as long as you hold it down, turning any semi automatic gun in cod into a fully automatic (not always the case) but most of the time yes, (sometimes its a little buggy because some semi automatics shoot slower than one another) and then save it, plug it into your console and boom, you can now do it on there too, there's literally no need for a controller at all anymore, unless you just want to have aim assist, but then again you have people cheating using a xim or chonus max, with keyboard and mouse, giving them aim assist with more accuracy due to using said combination. so you there you have it.
While true, I'm sure some people prefer the feeling of a controller over a keyboard. Also while the macros you mentioned would work, it sounds like it would be more for shooters, but there are a lot of different genres of games to play as well!
