The kit costs $18,995 plus tax and shipping. You need a 1997 to 2004 Corvette donor car, which costs about the same as the kit. You need a boxter trans. Used around $4,000 or rebuilt with a warranty $6600. Boxter shifter and cable new around $700 or used around $300. Engine to trans adapter kit $1800. Misc. other parts. Using a complete running Corvette with manual trans gets you a lot of parts you will need. You will have around $43,000 invested before you start the build. I would expect the finished car to cost around $50,000 minimum. It will depend on how much you spend on the donor 'vette. You can buy a new base model C8 for around $60,000 and get a new car with a warranty. Something to consider.
@@QuickshiftCars google their address (16697 SW 117th Ave) and check it with google Panorama, did you see any sign of a DDR there??? cus i didnt see any, its a big fucking scam, there was another guy who was doing that same scam in South America before
These kits are absolutely the best around the world!! Gorgeously designed, y'all must see the detailing on the ones by owners in Saudi Arabia, Germany and the Netherlands, absolutely incredible how affordable they are
I remember meeting Diego back in the days.. 😅 in the Dominican Republic I used to live there and was crazy to see a McClaren F1 driving through Santo Domingo.. I did not know back then that it was a kit car.. Glad to see they still around and actually making new models.
I looked into this company back when he first started and almost bought a kit then but ran out of funds. I’m looking to do one of them possibly now. they are one of the Best looking kit cars in the world. One of those would look awesome next to my Porschelol very cool you did a review on them 👍
I have been following DDR Motorsport for 14 years, and I actually created their Wikipedia article in 2006. They have been a REALLY shady company ever since they started out. The only talk about them in the Kit-car community is from someone who was scammed by DDR, and sued them. It really seems like a company that has little knowledge of engineering supercars, but they are absolutely determined to show off at all costs. For the first few years they tried to create the illusion that they were making multiple models and they pretended they had built a few cars. However it all seemed to be the exact same demo car, except they would add a few new bolt-on parts to it, and they'd paint it a new colour. However, the car always seemed to have the exact same 3S-GTE motor that nobody was interested in. The Wikipedia page was frequently hijacked by an IP address from the Dominican (hmm), and they would rewrite the article to sound like a DDR brochure. I gave up on maintaining it due to the blatant advertising he was trying to use Wikipedia for. Their website offered different fictional models, one of them had a Rotary engine, another had a Subaru engine. There was no evidence of any of these being built, and also no evidence that they even knew how they were going to build these (I would have wanted to see confirmation that they at least understood that a custom solution would need to be engineered to adapt these engines to a mid-engine transaxle). They were all hypothetical ideas from somebody with apparently very little knowledge of automotive engineering. It appears that Diego never allowed the car to be reviewed, because there's no word from anyone who has ever sat in their demo car. So there's not much confidence out there that it is even a properly engineered chassis, or that their demo car was any good at all. It had an old stock MR2 engine, so perhaps a review might be embarrassing for them? Around 2010-2011, there was was some talk online from the first customer (the first customer that anyone had heard of), and he was claiming that DDR is scamming him. Apparently he waited through very long delays for parts that were missing from delivery, and they refused to reply to him. Apparently he sued them. In 2011 there was a post on a popular Kit car community forum, a member was asking if DDR is actually still in business, because we had heard nothing from DDR, and no customers appeared to exist. Diego posted a rude and very angry reply, called the poster a liar, and said that they are still in business. It was a very pathetic and childish reply from someone who seems to have more temper than reading skills. The post is still online if you want to look for it. Aside from this post, I've never seen Diego appear on any online Kitcar communities. There's very little evidence of these cars out there. Aside from the guy who claimed to be scammed, the only other confirmed customer I've found online is a guy with a RU-vid channel called "The Ferret", he completed his build, but it is just the original MR2-engine design. The pictures on his blog revealed that one of my early suspicions were true, that the chassis does not seem to be designed by someone with much engineering knowledge. It is an incredibly simplistic design, which appears to just be a tube-frame that has fittings to attach a complete MR2 subframe. Many parts of the chassis appeared to be made by someone with poor fabrication skills. My guess is that in the last 15 years, they may have made less than 5 cars. Maybe more, but if there are any others, either the owners are embarrassed of them, or they never completed their build? I wouldn't hold your breath on them offering you a demo car for review. They don't have any cars, and since the only experiences we've heard about them have been negative experiences, I doubt we're going to see any other cars.
Thanks for your review. I looked at purchasing one of these kits a year ago, but discovered a lot of negative reviews on the internet. I don’t know how to believe. Maybe it was one crazy customer or maybe they are not a honest company? Maybe you could explore this angle by interviewing those who purchased kits.
It looks amazing and smooth to drive. Maybe those complaining did not succeed at putting all of the parts together. He said it, "it is your responsibility." So one better buys a preassemble DDR if available.
I know Mr G. he is a solid dude. He takes his cars to the shop I take my car to to for fine tuning. If you make it out to Miami holler at me. I can show you some stuff.
@@iHaveTheDocuments I have no issue with getting a kit car as long as it gives me what I am looking for. But after doing some research and having some contact with the company it won't be this one.
@@randalllawkin My plan was to have a turn key build and I wanted to have control over the donor car and remanufactured engine and personnally deliver those. The owner apparently didn't like that for some reason and abruptly stopped communicating with me. Fair enough, he has the right to refuse service. If you are serious about dealing with them, there are other things to consider. Just do the internet research and you be the judge. I plan on going with the Ultima RS but will build it myself.
in 2008 or 2009 , i helped build the original tube chassis for the blue car at a shop in Stuart FL called RaceCarBuilders . im sure DDR has changed stuff over the years . but cool to see this guy is still at it .
It reminds me of a mix between a Koenigsegg and a Pagani zonda. I like it none the less. I was leaning towards FFR GTM, but after seeing the newer version of the DDR, i'd be looking to price one of those out. good job on the video. adding on to previous post. about the only negative i had with earlier versions was no windows. or the ugly little box for a window. i didnt see ifthey had a window at all on these
Great video! Love the focus on Kit Cars specifically. But I'd just like to inform you that the GT4 is no longer in production. I spoke to Mr. Grullon a few months ago inquiring about the kits for sale, and he informed me that the MR2 (91-94) is becoming increasingly hard to find, and is becoming a bit too old to justify the Kit. So the GT4 is now discontinued. Just thought I'd give y'all a heads up. :)
These are a great idea, but if you don't have the patience to do it right? Stay away. I could do an engine, and suspension. I can't do body work or interior. For me, these are where cost comes into play? A nice interior, you're talking at least $10grand on the low side? Done right though, you will be the star of the show for decades! Anyone attempting to do one, I wish you success. Thanks for for the video. It was good.
Thank you for the post, loved it!! Please & thank you on the review/drive once there's an available model for you to get your hands on! That would be great!
Love watching your videos you're doing an excellent job, the design of this car is beautiful it looks like a exotic car love the big wing on the back of the car. And I love the fact that you can customize the inside. Keep up the good work.
I had the idea for making a kit car manufacturer called GT1 replicas, and make replicas of 90's gt1 roadcars like the Porsche 911 GT1, Mercedes CLK GTR, and Nissan R390 GT1.
All I could think of was if the car was light enough, it should be fitted with a 200hp bike engine. That would be something special to drive, yet the honda engine would probably beat it in speed, reliability, gas mileage..
its a very nice kit, and you really have to be passionate about a custom experience to buy one, because the reality is that is nowhere close to $17,000 as the image in this video shows, infact you can't even buy their cheapest kit for $17k. You will easily spend triple by the time it is complete.. I am looking to buy one because I want a custom made car, but if I just wanted a fast cheap supercar, there are McLaren Mp4-12c for $85k used, and Nissan GTR is even cheaper, like 50k. Buy this car for the right reasons.
WOW Salim!! When you stated the price of the used McLaren at first I was like, baloney. But I just looked and there is currently a very nice, clean, 34,000 2012 silver colored one for sale for just under $85,000!!! Thanks for opening my eyes to this!!😊
Okay since this is literally more than 15 times cheaper than the cheapest exotic (disregarding the aurelio) this is a better choice for us middle class folks
Thanks a lot I'm getting a lot of good information I appreciate what you're doing I'm considering buying a kit car project you're being very helpful thank you
So with the kit, engine, electronics and all the other stuff you're looking more at like $50,000, if you didnt have the tools, thatl be an extra few grand, then theres wheels and tyres, not too much really about a grand or more, if you dont have the talent or the tools to put it together you would have to hire someone to do it for you which will probs be a few months of work for like an extra $10,000, so overall not as cheap as they will have you make it out to be.
@@diegogrullon131 Im saving up for a Prova Countach kit, I dont have the space, tools or technical knowhow besides welding and fabrication experience, so all in all itl be like $90k for a complete car, but I must say this kit car is a nice thing to look at.
Not necessarily. It all depends on where you're sourcing your parts from. There are plenty of wrecked c5 corvettes out there with solid parts to make them donor cars. You can get them dirt cheap in the states too. Other LS engines can be acquired for cheap too. You can also rip the electrical harness from the corvette as a base, and splice in whatever functions you need in addition to it. All that is assuming you want the c5 variant anyway, there's nothing stopping someone from using a different engine set up, such as the Impala based model, or one fitting a Honda engine (dirt cheap on the market right now). Sourcing parts is just as important as having all the tools, and if you know where to look it's easy to get parts for cheap.
Curious if you've ever built a kit car? I suggest asking those that have, what a realistic finished cost is. Don't go by what the company producing them says. Factory Five said the 818 could be built for well under $20k. I don't know of anyone that's done it for less than $35k.
PLEASE LOOK AT THE CHANNEL BUILDERCREATOR! He is building his own super car FROM SCRATCH. And I can't stress this enough. The only thing he doesn't make on the car is the engine and some of the other niche components. He MADE THE FRAME AND SHELL FROM SCRATCH for god sake. Please check his stuff out, because if you like this stuff, you'll like his.
Shipping costs to Europe and once finalizing the car for homologation are done the price tag just goes sky high... You're better off just buying a Nissan GT-R starting price in Belgium for a GT-R (2021 model) is 100K tax included. Or second hand 2010 model 55K No shipping drama, No Donor parts drama No homologation drama just buy, register and drive
I would love to buy a kit car but I have no space to put it together. Does this kit car company offer a turn key which is that they put it together for the customer?
