Just to note as I also have this saw, there is a $70 conversion kit to add the blade light to it. Totally worth the upgrade and super easy to install (took about 15 minutes).
@@vannevels6758 can you link to it? Is it a plug and play kit fitted for the saw specifically? As the $70 kit was the cheapest kit I could find like this.
@@vannevels6758 So like I asked, can you provide a link to a product, not a video? The $70 kit is a full retrofit mod to turn the saw into the DWS780. It comes with a replacement molded handle with switch, wiring, plus the light module designed to slot into the saw. This is not just buying a light and mounting it to the top of the blade.
I just bought this after my 20 year old DW705 croaked. Thanks for this tutorial. Feeling pretty good about my purchase, which I am picking up today. Dust collection (or lack of) seems to be the only common complaint. I can work around that. Totally agree about the price difference with the 780. I never needed that shadow line either
I have one and put a aftermarket light kit on it and made a excellent miter saw been using it for about the last 5 years without any problems would buy it again
I think that black override button is so when you shift the base slightly past one of the detents and lock it the catch might want to slip back into the detent as soon as you're cutting
@@berlinbuilds I hate every kind of miter saw that have the screw type for locking in at your angle, the old Hitachi saws would always move back into the detent as your tightening it
@A -Carpenter had a Metabo HPT for a while, screw was annoying compared to a 779 but I never had issues with the saw moving when tightened. It was a good tight saw, just lacked power and made a whine that my ears didn't agree with
I previously had the DW718- 12 inch, which is an older version of the same saw. I have had it for around 20 years before the motor finally gave up. I used it almost daily for about 4 years when doing finish carpentry and cabinet building in my own business and cannot say anything negative about the reliability and accuracy of this type of saw. I recently purchaced the Bosch GCM12SD dual bevel sliding compound miter saw for my shop saw and bought the Dewalt DWS779 to take on job sites.
Someone "borrowed" it from lowes and I got 1 for $279.30. There was saw dust left in the usual places but for the price.... Oh, and the blade was already installed!🤪
If you want to stay with a DeWalt brand for the vacuum you could use Model #DWV010. This is a great saw that I'd recommend for any beginner. It's not too expensive to pick up (especially if you catch it on a sale), has lots of power, and can do more that a lot of the fixed miter saws.
Good catch. I forgot but it did come with a material clamp. I just don’t use them (maybe I did once or twice?) and the clamps have lived in a blackhole in my trailer for a long time.
Started to watch this review as I'm potentially in the market for a new mitre saw. Unfortunately for me I find that you follow the pattern of may younger people these days and speak very quickly and do not fully enunciate your words resulting in a slurred and not understandable mess.
One of the best reviews on this saw I've seen (and heard). It helped me with my purchase decision. I'm 70 and understood every word. Thanks for the help.
