Added tip: I affixed an L-shape magnetic (therefore quick release) USB-C connector on the back port, along with velcro to hold a few inches of the cord along the back of the keyboard for a pull-away buffer if the keyboard were to be moved a significant distance (on a keyboard pullout, etc.) as I felt there may be too much side-to-side force on the USB-C port on the back, if/when moving the keyboard around. All of this to protect that port. Also, I DO like to disconnect the keyboard and place another keyboard in its place at all times that I am not editing (as it is smaller, quieter and I don't want the print on the keys to wear out as fast on the Editor Keyboard by typing on it all hours of the day. This magnet connector allows for a quick detachment without continuously plugging it in/out to the port on the back of the keyboard itself I fear would otherwise get worn out.

First timer here. Learning DR for agitprop purposes for various orgs I support. I appreciate your style and delivery and even though I can’t justify buying a new one right now, here’s a little love for the algorithm and I’ll check out some of your other videos;)

Spot on! I have both and I confirm every point you make (with the exception of hit and miss when typing but that might just be me being a slow typer). I was struggling with finding an ergonomic way to use the Speed editor together with a normal keyboard as there is a lot of going from one to the other. The Editor keyboard is obviously the solution to this.

Hi Alex, thanks for the video. Another wonderfully presented review. I've had this keyboard for about three months now and would really appreciate a deeper dive into its functionality. I've been looking online for a relatively easy to follow tutorials but have never found one so would it be fantastic if you were to do some follow-up tutorials on the keyboard. Many thanks

Thank you so much for the feedback and kind comments. Also, for the suggestion on a future video. I’d certainly be able to do that. In fairness, this was a little more of a review than a tutorial so I think a tutorial on how to get the best from it would be really helpful - as you say not a lot of that available. Thanks so much for watching! 🙏🏻

Tbh, not having tutorials is one of the reasons I haven’t pulled the trigger. I have too many projects in the backlog to learn something new from scratch. I just don’t have the time unless I can quickly search for answers or find some videos

Hey Alex, thanks for this excellent review, with really insightful comments and real world examples. I'm in that sweet spot where I'm wondering which of the two to get…so both your reviews are super helpful. New subscriber also, just discovered your channel, love the production quality and care you put in making these. Good SFX on transitions, too. :-) GIVEAWAY! (To be fair, I'm not at all on social media, and I think it's required for the giveaway? Either way…cheers from Las Vegas and keep up the good work.)

Dope vid.. is there a way to customize a specific action? I mostly edit music videos & the one thing that was bothering me with the speed editor was placing a clip on V2 or V3 etc.. it would always place it on V1 and I would always have to grab the mouse and placing it above V1...
@AlexCameron-Depiqd
@AlexCameron-Depiqd 8 месяцев назад
If I understand your question, sadly not. It would be cool to have some custom buttons. Equally, that would be one of my requests rather than some of the odd inclusions, being able to change track targeting on the keyboard. One thing you can do is use the place on top option as it always goes to the top that way so if you’re wanting something on V2 and already have something on V1, place on top will default to V2 without you needing to change the track targeting.

Thanks for the video. I agree in many aspects although I would like to clarify. I think considering this keyboard as a keyboard for daily use is a mistake, it is a dedicated keyboard for a task that it performs perfectly but is specific. Personally I have used the small one and this one and I think there are differences in performance and then there is the jewel of the Jog-Sony. Working with the keyboard is a delight. Yes, it makes noise, it needs a cable, but do you really think about those things when using a work tool? At this point it would be necessary to reflect on how each one uses it. It is a keyboard with a build quality that is difficult to compare. Otherwise, I have 2 Mac keyboards, one extended and one small, when the battery runs out or I connect a cable or change the keyboard. Everything I do other than use DVR I do with them and if the Mini Panel, the large keyboard takes up a lot of space on my table, I have the small one to "write". The letters skip out on me too. One thing, my Jog does not have a click, it is solidly assembled without any fuss, it just rotates. I don't know if there are two versions and one click in the future. Thanks again.

Great review! I agree 100% with everything you mentioned. Now that I have one so far…the only minor issue I have is the Shift key on the right is too small. I miss the key many times trying to touch type. My other issue is I feel adjustable RGB LED back lit keys would make this perfect…as I like to work in a dimly lit room to edit. None of my issues are a deal breaker. Great job on the review !!

Nice review, but as a French user, although the hardware clicks of the search wheel would be nice, I prefer to use the Speed Editor, because I'm so used to the AZERTY layout, and also because I have customized a certain number of default keyboard shortcuts according to both my preferences and the French layout interferences. Not every DR user uses a UK or US keyboard layout. About the timecode keys, I don't really understand the advantage you are describing. I have a Mac keyboard with the numeric keypad, and I already can enter + or - then directly the digits I need to navigate the timecode. Another suggestion to BMD would be to be able to re-assign the digit keys to track switching on the timeline when on the edit page (it already does it on the cut page). A double-press of the digit keys for audio track switching would be useful.

Yah agreed, I feel like it's still missing some dedicate button, like page up/down, home etc. I know these can be accessing with the function keys. I use it as a standard keyboard, but damn its loud and not backlit! Damn I wish they made a quiet and backlit version. It is missing the ypos button, and I wish the cut button was also a split button. And it really needs a way remap the special keys. But overall, I still run a macro keyboard anyway for custom tasks. And damn, some track selecting toggles would be powerful too.

Great video. I have had the editor keyboard for about a month and as a fairly new, learning, Davinci Resolve user I have had several disappointments with the editor that are probably the result of my lack of experience rather than technical flaws. I have had a hard time adjusting to the keyboard when typing - moving from a Logitech MX Keys (excellent keyboard) I find the keyboard spacing of the Davinci Editor Keyboard is a little smaller and closer together and I get a LOT of typing errors. No backlight and VERY light printing on the keys make them difficult for me to see. I am still struggling to determine what many, many of the keyboard keys perform, and as far as I know, Davionci does not provide any documentation on the keyboard. None. OK - Good - the shuttle is just magnificent, form and function are perfect. Wouldnt trade that off for anything. I would love to see a video that provided a tutorial on how to maximize the functionality and use of EVERY key but that is unlikely as RU-vidrs like to rush through everything to meet some predetermined desirable video length. I would purchase a tutorial if one was available. OK - lots of rambling on - Your teaching style, pace, and editing is just perfect and I will be looking at your other videos. Thanks for all the hard work.

Blackmagic created the keyboard to be used on the CUT page. It can be used on the other pages, but it was designed for the CUT page. This guy did not seem to be completely aware of this fact, according to comments starting at the 11:10 mark and ending at 18:06.

Not true at all. The Speed Editor 💯 was. Totally agree. The Editor Keyboard however is a much more general editing keyboard that is much more aimed towards the Edit page. I’ve spoken to the team at Blackmagic Design in researching the video so have it on good authority. Thanks for watching the video though. 👍🏻
